I have two 1600 trannys: One complete used 4-speed trans, claimed good. One disassembled 1600 transmission that needs new mainshaft; all other parts good, such as case, countershaft, shift rods and forks, synchro assemblies, gears on mainshaft, etc. The disassembled trans has the early design of mainshaft that was prone to wear the output splines, so it needs new mainshaft; spline design was later updated (see Haynes manual). The complete trans is from a junkyard long long ago. I acquired these from an old BMW driver who was cleaning out. Number on cases 316511/4 and 25813/1, respectively.
