View Full Version : 335i Pricing
Roger Olszewski 12-08-2007, 05:46 PM Hey Guys and Gals,
I am looking to purchase a 335i 2d coupe that is loaded in options. However, I am wondering how far I can bargain. So, I came across this thread and I'm hoping some people that may have bought this car can offer me their input.
The car I am looking at is:
Red leather interior
Premium Package: $2550
Sport Package: $1100
Nav system: $2100
Increased Top speed limiter: $500
+ Destination charge of 775.00
totaling to 53,000 + fee's out the door
I want to bargain it down to 48. Is that unreasonable?
Also, how has your experience been with this car? Maintenence-wise and otherwise?
Much appreciated
-Roger

What other options are you getting than what's listed above? Steptronic? Active Cruise? Active Steering? Using your list above, a 335i Coupe would only be ~$48,000 MSRP. Regardless, getting 5k off MSRP on a coupe is going to be nearly impossible. That would be (AFAIK) under invoice. Combined with the fact that this car sells really well, I don't think that deal is at all possible, but good luck! I would start by figuring out invoice on the car you want (use Edmunds, it will be the closest you can get to true invoice) and go from there.
Curious about the $500 speed limiter increase option you mention, never seen that as a stand alone option. The Sport Package akready includes a top speed limit increase to 155.
carguy7 12-08-2007, 07:39 PM It really depends on the dealer. Some will deal and others will not. If you can split the difference between invoice and list, you are doing well.
Roger Olszewski 12-08-2007, 08:10 PM Those are basically the only options I am getting. The transmission is manual(thats what i was looking for). But the Premium package + sport package + nav is nearly almost all of the options minus the ipod jack.
I've been battling on what to purchase. Finally decided on the 335i. As far as the increased top speed limiter that was part of the sport package. I wonder why they included an extra charge for it...hmm.
According to the print out I got from the dealer. The total suggested price is 47,825. I'm going to try to get close to that since the competition has increased for this class of cars. The A5 is coming out in Feb, Is-F is coming out end of december, then the M3 and so on.
I'm not sure how to aproach it though...any ideas? Come armed? In the sense with data from competitors?
Thanks for your input!
aftp302 12-09-2007, 01:50 AM Still confused...if the MSRP of the car with those options is ~$48k then why are they starting the price out at $53k?? Even at a high demand dealer, NO ONE should be pricing this car above sticker right now. It's not an M3 after all.
As carguy7 said, if you can get them to split the difference between MSRP and Invoice then you haven't been "taken". Anything more than that and you've gotten a pretty good deal.
It will depend on the dealer of course, their business practices (i.e. are they shady with the numbers or upfront?), how many they have on hand, how many customers they have waiting (if any), etc.
At the minimum arm yourself with the MSRP, Invoice (from edmunds), and if possible offers from other dealers in the area. Go in with a price in mind ahead of time and state it up front. Don't wait for their first round of numbers and then try to get them to your number from there. Start them with your number and then negotiate (if you're willing to).
Good luck!
Roger Olszewski 12-09-2007, 02:06 AM Yeah thats what confused me too when he was pricing it out. I figured it was in "high" demand. I didn't even bother researching or anything. On my drive from work I stopped by and just started looking. One thing led to another. So, the MSRP I am looking at right now is 47,825 to be exact. And the edmunds invoice is 46,045. The out the door price would be 53K(including sales tax). My previous posts were unclear in that sense. I made it sound like they are starting off at a MSRP of 53K.
Does this all sound reasonable? 53K OTD(out the door) + out the door fees ?
If your curious why I am asking so many questions it's because this my first big purchase. My other car was simply purchased from my father. Cash.
Thanks for all your help.
aftp302 12-09-2007, 02:33 AM Still doesn't sound right. Even if the deal was based on MSRP ($47,825) plus sales tax ($3467 based on 7.25%) then the total OTD before any other fees should only be $51,292 (not $53k) and that is if you are paying full MSRP.
Using Edmunds and a 2008 335i Coupe, non-metallic paint, Premium Package, Sport Package, NAV, and iPod (which comes to an MSRP of $47,725 according to BMWUSA.COM), the invoice is $43,905. Not sure how you're getting an invoice as high as $46k on a car with these options.
Based on the info above, I would go in with a number of at the most $45,815 which is half way between MSRP and Invoice. If you want to shoot lower, that's great too and IS possible, but this would be a "fair" deal.
This is all before Tax, Title, Tags, etc. Make sure they show you the line items for everything because based on what you've listed so far, it sounds like the dealer may be doing some things like marking the car up above MSRP, adding dealer fees, etc, none of which you should stand for.
aftp302 12-09-2007, 02:36 AM For reference to my above post.....
