I started today and got the 30 some odd screws and nuts off.
I'm reading the various threads about refinishing but don't see exactly how to get the mesh seperated from the lip. I've tried various things like WD-40 then pounding away with my rubber mallot for about an hour and that didn't work.
Can any of you folks that have already done this provide me with the ultimate tried and true step by step plan on how to get these off without using a sledge hammer?

Much appreciated

i used a few strategic blows of a rubber mallet...don't be afraid of it.

Thanks, but I'm way ahead of that suggestion. I am pounding away at this thing (with a towel on top of it of course) and it's not moving a millimeter.
I'm asking for more drastic measures without having to break the thing.

Anyone had this problem before?

:D I have this problem with EVERY set of these rims I refurbish. The problem is heavy corrosion between the center and the "tube" itself. Take a solid piece of wood (a towel is not a good idea, doesn't protect enough), place it on the center and then use a heavy hammer. Sounds very rude, but it works and doesn't damage anything. I assume you removed the bolts before.
BTW, if you need new bolts send me a PM, I can supply them.

Good luck

Use a 1ft. section of 4x4 fence post. Use it as a "punch" and smack it with a 12lb sledge hammer. Do not be gentle....smack the crap out of it (wood).
