So this is what happens when dont use the press tool properly and you don't notice that you've run out of room at the bottom of the press. Damn Im pissed! I was hoping to have my car on the road to the shop for a realignment by 1100 tomorrow. Now Im stuck without a car till the end of next week and the NorCal drive is on Sunday:mad:mad!!!

So what do I do, order another online or go to the stealership and pay double???

Anyone in the North Bay have an extra Lemf Upper Control Arm bushing they would like sell?

BTW the other one went on like butter, I didn't make the same mistake.

Sorry, is the rubber torn on that, or is it just that the metal is banged up? If it's just the metal, you can press it in from the other side and the metal won't make any difference.

If you tore the rubber, well, then you're screwed :)

And how exactly did you do that?

Your moving out here or coming out to visit?

Im a board member of the Kansas City BMW club. Its a very active group. Check out kcbmwclub.com. It would be nice to have another guy into e34's in the club.. Im the only active member who is rocking an e34.

Rubber is definitely torn.

Its hard to explain but I'll try. I screwed the bushing (kind of like the sound of that), anyways, I mess it up by using the wrong fitting on the non-pressing side of the control arm. When the bushing reached the fitting through the control arm, it was blocked so the pressure from the press damaged the bushing.

Im too impatient so I went to the dealership. Bushing and control arm are both on the car but not in time for a Saturday alignment. I'll have to wait till Monday.

Meh, who needs an alignment anyway :)

My balljoints have been shot for a long time now, and I can't even get an alignment if I want to. No premature tire wear, so it's not awful yet. Hopefully I'll have some new ones in there by Sunday though. Good luck getting your situation sorted.

Just FYI, last time I did it I found it was easiest to push the old bushing out by pushing the new bushing in. Saved a TON of time that way, and everything lined up perfectly.

Well, everything is back together. OMG what a difference in driving and maneuvering the car! Its really amazing what you get use to as time wears the vehicle components down.

Tomorrow, an alignment.
