Im trying to figure out whats going on with my rear, im pretty sure it has something to do with camber/toe, but I pretty much know nothing about that.

Heres a little history bought car a little over a year ago, 1993 525i, 160k. Had some 16's on it. I dealt for a little bit with them and they were fine, 0 problems. In December of last year I upgraded to some 18" M-pars. Everything was fine, until one day Im coming home on the interstate @ about 80mph and then, bam, flat tire on the left rear. Pull over, at the time I was like, ok just a flat, Change it. But then when I look at the flat, it wasn't flat, it was torn to shreds on the inside wall of the tire, I was like ok wierd. I didn't really think much.

Fast foward to August of this year, Tire got replaced no problems. Going to see my friend graduate Police Academy, on the same interstate, except this time its wet, going anywhere between 65-80, BAM, same wheel, go down in ditch, have to get towed out, didn't make it to freinds graduation.

At this point, i was like maybe its the rim, once again, pull the tire off, shreded in the rear (will post a pic later today). So start doing some research on here, didn't find too much, or at least no one with this sort of problem.

A friend came over the other day, and noticed that camber is really negative (I guess, tire looks like this / , ha) and this is the spare keep in mind. We also noticed rubbing on the inside fender well, where you could tell the previous tire was rubbing, and a bolt that may be the culprit of the shreding.

Also, I usually dont drive on the interstate, and when I do it typically not 80, but yet this seems to only happen when I get up to that speed, so to me it makes me pretty scared to replace the tire again, and drive around. I want to get it straight before then

any ideas?

Take it to an alignment shop. That's step one. Post here whatever they tell you the results are, and ask for more advice. No point speculating when an hour and $39 will tell you the truth.

the tires on a bmw in the rear should look / \ .
that is normal, they run a lot more negative camber than is normal on other brands of cars... eating the inside edge though is NOT normal.

My rear tires wear on the inside edges, not near as extreme as yours though. I thought it was the camber as well, but an alignment shop revealed that the toe was out of spec, not the camber. The only way to get the toe back to spec as I understand it is to replace the worn trailing arm bushings.

Heh, when I do burnouts I leave little trapezoidal patches :) Time for a rear end rebuild!

Im not really wearing out the inside edge of the tire to shreds

I think its common that our cars wear the inner edge out first

but I mean its actually rubbing the sidewall, and shreding it

pictures will help
