Hello, i am new to the Bimmer Forums, and in a couple weeks i will be receiving my brand new BMW M6, and Im just going to have many questions about it, such as does anyone know what good exhausts that i can get for it, or many other options that can just basically help increase speed or anything that would gain performance of the car. Please post anything that would help me. Thanks

It would be most useful to know which M6 you're talking about.

I'm assuming you have the E63/E64 M6. You've got Hamann, AC Schnitzer, Dinan, Alpina(?), etc. More info is a Google search away.

Active Autowerks or Supersprint exhaust, chip, etc. IDK what kind of engine mods they have for the S85 (the engine in the M6) though.

What a sweet car. I see an upgrade to a 650 or M6 in the future. Sapphire Black of course!! Loved this car since I was a kid watching the character Hawk drive one in "Spencer for Hire".

If you own a car like the M6, mod prices are of little question. haha.

The usual paths are: wheels > suspension > exhaust > engine performance

Exhaust choices are many. There are many sound clips posted on YouTube and Yahoo. Do not limit your search to the M6, since many of the clips are M5s and the sound is identical since the engine and drivetrain are identical. Supersprint is a popular choice. I have the Supersprint Race (without x-pipe) and am very pleased. The Supersprint Sport version is so tame that you may find it is not worth the cost. Eisenmann exhausts are considerably louder and produce a different tone. Where the Supersprint is low and rumbling, the Eisenmann is raspy and higher pitched. As mentioned above, there now are other options from Dinan, Active, Tubi, etc.

As for increasing the power of the engine, the options are limited to gain noticeable increases. Short of buying Dinan's $40,000 stroker motor, the best gains seem to come from headers combined with a freer flowing exhaust and appropriate software. Gains of around 40-50 hp can be had. Your car will be much louder with headers.

If considering wheels, I suggest you pay close attention to wheel weight. It is easy to pursue bling at the expense of performance. Increasing unsprung weight is one of the best ways of diminishing your car's excellent handling. The Hartge wheels are a prime example. They hit the market first, and look very good, but are unreasonably heavy.

For suspension, consider Dinan's stage II -- it affects street driveability very slightly but provides a noticeable handling improvement.

Hope this helps.

Good set of recommendations.

So I see you track the M5, hmm...

So I see you track the M5, hmm...

I did for a year. Great fun, as the signature photo suggests, but it is now retired from track duty in favor of a track-only E36 M3. I have a thread in the Track forum detailing the build-out.

with most suspension kits are most people running 20's. I also wish wheels were listed with the weight along with size.

this is addressed to gbelton. What wheels do you have on your M6? I have a 650i cab that I want to upgrade the wheels on.

Hello sfm001.

I do not have a M6 but many of my buddies do. I have the 650i cab like you and the M5, recently purchased this past December.

As for you upgrading the wheels, you can go with the stock 19" M6 Sports or many others... What are you in the market for? Bling, bling? Large lip? Deep dish? Classic? Webbed?

Do tell and we can talk about what best.

I convinced my father to get the Dinan exhaust, performance chip and front tower stress bar for his 2007 M6. I will keep you updated on how they work out. also Dinan is giving 10% off all parts so its not a bad time to upgrade.

In my honest opinion that exhaust sounds like crap.

AC Schneitzer is the way to go.

The Dinan exhaust turned out great, but the pipes are absolutely gigantic compared to the stock ones. They do sound amazing though.
