View Full Version : OT: Requested pictures of my old cars
Redfive 12-07-2007, 12:13 AM The second car I ever owned was a 91 Jetta GLi 16V. The most enjoyable car ever on the twisties. That 16v loved to rev and the close-ratio gearbox made it easy. Two bad it went thru 3 gearboxes in 20k. I would have kept that car forever. The body and paint were perfect. I washed that car 5 times a week.

I followed that with a 93 Corrado SLC VR6. A friend picked it up at auction. The car had been neglected, repossessed, and then sat for over a year. I rehabbed it back to life. This car was light, fiercely fast and could easily keep up with an E36 M3. Plus it had that glorious VR howl. I'd pick up one again for strictly track duty.

Then I had an 95 A6 Quattro 2.8 5 speed, which was a very rare car, but not that interesting. I sold it and bought my A4 1.8TQM Stg. 3. Lots of fun. Just recently sold it to a guy who's building it up to have 400awhp. Sick.

3eggwagon 12-07-2007, 12:21 AM Nice wing on the rack. Not to be statist but CT drivers love slowing in the passing and passing in the slowing. It's funny, because it's true! haha
3eggwagon 12-07-2007, 12:21 AM Ok I am an ass.
Redfive 12-07-2007, 12:30 AM Nice wing on the rack. Not to be statist but CT drivers love slowing in the passing and passing in the slowing. It's funny, because it's true! haha
It's quite a problem here. The worse is when you're booking along and they change lanes right as you get up to them and then go slower than the speed limit and then wait till they're 1/4 mile ahead of the car they're passing before getting over.
Binjammin 12-07-2007, 12:30 AM Nice wing on the rack. Not to be statist but CT drivers love slowing in the passing and passing in the slowing. It's funny, because it's true! haha
Dude, I need a video camera to record the "Ct effect". You'll see a line of like 4 or 5 cars driving slowly in the right lane. You'll be the only guy in the left lane, passing at an obviously higher speed, when just as you're about 2 or 3 car lengths away from the last car in line, it will switch to your lane and not accelerate. I lived in Boston for a long time, and it was kill or be killed. I mean like video-game roid-rage kind of driving, I got used to people giving you an inch at the most, and you'd better take it. Down here I would rather rig a remote starter on a manual car, leave a brick on the accelerator, and run my own head over than drive anywhere. It's the most maddening infuriating driving in the world. :mad
Thanks for making my blood pressure go through the roof thinking about it :D
Antrieb 12-07-2007, 12:39 AM Are you glad you made the switch to BM's?
My buddy has a '91ish Jetta with 5 lug and 24v engine swap. The intake sound on that thing is sweet :D
3eggwagon 12-07-2007, 12:39 AM Yeah MAss pike is bad sometimes. I have seen some real irresponsible shit. I like to make sure I drive well, people check the ride all the time so maybe it will register subconsciously,
GooosfabrAAA......... DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE.....Thats it....

Sam Son 12-07-2007, 03:01 AM I wanna know about the roll cage in the 5er. Can you still use the back seat?

Trust me, my fat ass can barely still use the front seat on that thing.
I don't think you want to crawl into the back seat.
Seriously, the seat bolsters hurt my hips in the front.

Actually at the e34 meet in the fall myself and another kid sat in the back with the cage. took some serious effort getting in, but it was well worth it
That Corrado is sick. You never see any down here in the south. Dont know why...
Ive always love the interiors of early 90's VW's
E34nication 12-07-2007, 11:43 AM very nice dubs

Uhh yeah I doubt I'll have a problem
brosher 12-07-2007, 12:39 PM Nice cars man. I've always had a thing for vw/audi but the lack of RWD has kept me away. My gf has a passat, 1.8T, FWD, BONE STOCK. The thing runs like crap on 87 octane she always puts in. I swear the thing picks up 25hp when I filler with 91.
I'm seriously considering a 2004 S4 avant, but they need to depreciate a year or two more. At least Audi isn't afraid to bring the fast wagons to the States. Not like some other german car co I know of. :mad

Oh yeah, that's right, I forgot there were like 4 or 5 of you that went for a ride-a-long. Ok, see, now I judge everything on my size, I didn't say you couldn't fit back there, I said you wouldn't want to crawl back there.
Besides, can you even get tunnel vision in a rear seat? :)
CleanE34 12-07-2007, 06:54 PM i love the dubs. my friend got a corrado that is black and that thing is small as hell. i think i sold my friend's old VW jetta, a one similar to yours, for like 300. lol. damn engine was done for.
///M3Vader4dr 12-07-2007, 06:57 PM always <3 Carrados

2DYE4 12-07-2007, 07:20 PM I never knew the corrados had active aero. they didn't in Argentina.
Nice C
yeah, all Corrados came as standard equipment, (Argentina...not so sure) it would raise at 45 and retract at 15mph. In Europe they would raise at 70mph...just goes to show you the different driving styles and high speeds are in different countrys.
Here's a pic of my old C...

Had some MK1 Rabbits, too. I would imagine a lot of people on here come from the VW side, it's usually the natural progression...affordable german engineering, to BMW.
Dark Schnitzer 12-08-2007, 07:06 PM Nice C

Love the ol' C's too......the only VW I ever sported was a Super Beetle modded with Porsche flat 6,polished Fuchs wheels, slammed with Recarro's.
Later on,after i sold my biz.....I grabbed a SoCal Black/blk monochromatic AMG'd 560SEC.That was a fun ride.......just recieved too much attention from the PoPo,

I like the keep right thing on there. Now if everyone could read that and the signs all over the highway life would be great.
Nice wing on the rack. Not to be statist but CT drivers love slowing in the passing and passing in the slowing. It's funny, because it's true! haha
Come to Atlanta and you'll find the same thing. Everybody learns to read early in life, those people forget by the time they graduate high school...
Redfive 12-09-2007, 09:39 PM I really wish I could have held on to these cars, but unfortunately, they had to go to make room for new toys. I'm just trying to own all of the cars I've always loved. Eventually I'll get a 928S4 and a 308GTS...
Are you glad you made the switch to BM's?

My family has had a lot of dubs over the years. I still like them a lot, but I think they've all gotten too big and heavy. It used to be difficult to find a VW with an Auto, now its the opposite. I just like the old school cars from when I grew up.
The VR6 is one of the best sounding engines in my opinion. Its up there with the italians. My Rado had a resonator delete setup. First with a 12 gauge rice cannon exhaust and later with a stock muffler. The first setup sounded great on the track but was too loud on the street. I got pulled over for it several times, so it had to go.
Hey Redfive, please post more pics of your car, and can you tell us what mods you have in the car?
The black 1989 535i can be seen here. Past Posting (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=844139) Everything but the supercharge and a new head unit has been done. For the most part.
The red 1989 535i is difficult to sum up. Its had multiple engines, suspensions, brakes, wheels, tires, exhaust, etc. Basically in present spec.
Engine: 3.6 low compression built turbo engine, with a TCD S2+ setup and a DTA fast ecu. ~350rwhp/375rwtq @ 10psi with the potential to go up to 24psi and enable the methanol injection.
Wheels/Suspension: RD sways, stress bar, Ground-control, Bilstein
Speedline Alesio 18x9.5, 18x11, Dunlop DSST
Brakes: Brembo GT, M5 spec rears, all cryo treated.
Exterior: Zender front and rear aprons, custom splitter, ACS spoiler, M-tech sides, somewhat original Cinnabar paint (about 15years old)
Interior: Stripped, roll-bar, Momo seats and steering wheel, camera mount, Apline headunit, Boston 3-way pro speakers, 3 10" subs
I'll do a full write up on it. But heres the latest photos of it. E34 meet (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=860784)

But only on the special cars. Without Recaro working they're magic, the interiors sucked. But those GLI seats are IMO the best ever.

My fiance has a 1.8t Jetta. Its a great car. Gets 30mpg. But its not for me.
The V8 S4s are also great. Too bad they get terrible gas mileage, otherwise I'd go for one too. In the meantime, I'll just have to build my own fast manual wagon.
i love the dubs. my friend got a corrado that is black and that thing is small as hell. i think i sold my friend's old VW jetta, a one similar to yours, for like 300. lol. damn engine was done for.
Thanks. It wasn't that small. I'm 6'2" and I had no issues in the car and often would have 4 people in the car. Once I even camped in the back (my tent flooded).
The Mk2s are disappearing. Don't see many of those anymore. I only saw 2 other Gli's in the couple years I owned that car.
Nice C

That's a great looking car.
Actually, I started with a BMW (my red car) and these cars have all been my second car/daily driver.
