ive noticed for a week now, ive been hearing this crunching scrapping sound whenever i reverse. I thought it was just me whenever i let go off the brakes at a steady rate.
One morning i went to go for a drive, i found that there were two long strips hanging from the bottom rear end of my car.
One was metalish/fiberglassish like the rear bumper but it felt sturdy like the underbody part.
The other one was rubberish.
Anyone know what these are? Ive just gotten into BMWs and i havent gotten time to put it up and go under it yet.
Oh yea. I park on my school's campus garage. My car is lowered for a stance but not that low and sometimes it comes close to touching the road whenever i go in. Also the school's speed bumps are high as hell. I think they are illegally high but we still have em. (Alot of tuners injure their cars from them but iunno)
What could be possibly broken in the rear center of my car that two strips are hanging under my car. =/

About the only thing I could see under my car that would match your description (picture would help - but I can't post them yet - too new a member) are the gas tank retaining straps - there are two, one on each side, that are similar to the bumber material and have a rubber gasket that goes between the strap and the gas tank itself.

Schools! They are always regulating hieght. How your pants are on the bottom, how high your pants are at the top, how high your are, and as mentioned above, how high you set up your suspension. It's oppressive and really aren't there better things to regulate, like murder??????

yea. i had a guess it was something to do with gas or gas tank but i wasnt sure.
also when i noticed this, i was taking note at my gas gauge. When i drove like for 10 miles, it would dip dramatically like almost 1/4 of a tank and then i park, leave, come back and start the car and it goes back up the 1/4 a tank that disappeared when i last drove.
ill try to do something or check/take pictures if i can on friday. =x
btw: my ride's height isnt that low. maybe .75 of an inch of a drop. most tuners at school are like 1.5 to 1.0 inch drops and they sometimes touch and some other times clear the bumps easily

I lost a strap on mine and the tank was hanging down on one side. I made a temporary strap out of duct tape until the strap came in at BMW. There $22 a piece. I wouldn't drive the car without tying up the tank. If both straps are gone, your tank might be dragging on the ground next. We wouldn't want that!

It is exactly what he said. I didnt get any pictures because i was too afraid of would happen if i continued to drive it like that.
Got it replaced, switched the straps, the old one looked like it got burned out or shredded (by the damn high speed bumps)
My tank was tilted like it was about to fall down so that explained why my gas mileage was going topsy turvy. Everytime i made a right corner, My gas would drop. Everytime i took a left turn, i gained gas lol.
Ill try to return to the shop to see if they still have the shredded belt or something to give you guys a heads up on
