Just wondering if anyone has one that I could borrow for a few hours. I have a few noises I want to measure.

The Cars
The new Dishwasher
The C-5A/B that rattles my house when it flies over.
The sound of my wife's nagging voice! I wonder if it is louder than the C-5A/B?? (I am kidding about this one)

I would be happy to furnish the person who can help me with a beer or 6.

Thanks!

Jason

I do. Somewhere.
For reference, Radio Shack sells a meter that's generally regarded as pretty accurate.
PM me.

I got one too but it's in storage right now. I might be able to get it out within a week if you can wait.

No kidding? This (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103667&cp=&sr=1) one? :ponder

Now that's interesting. While some things from the Shack are OK, I don't generally expect a heckuva lot of precision out of their gear. :freak

even moving an inch can affect readings by 1-3db so super accuracy is very hard unless you have an anechoic chamber and a fixed measurement source.

A guy here in the office says that his brother may have one I can borrow. He is going to check for me. If he does not...I will contact you! Thanks!

Yeah...I got that. I just need to borrow the decibel meter.

That's the one. There are/were a few other companies I've seen selling the same unit. Different colors and silk screen fonts etc.
I've never checked it against anything but I've heard several audio guys say that it's good (enough).

Yeah, I've noticed that phenomenon with some of RS's other stuff as well. :D

Very interesting. That might be useful for some general/ballpark measurements here & there. :ponder

Thanks for the tip!

Let me know if you get one, 'Basco! I have my own experiment I want to conduct. I just need to run by Taco Bell first...

It's not that the RatShack one is super accurate, but it is quite consistent, alot of people use them for tuning car audio setups when an RTA isn't available.

I was going to make a decibel joke/comment about myself, pork and Mohammad but it wasn't really going anywhere so I'll just give the ingredients to that joke and you can make your own concoction.

Adeel needs one of those meters to measure how loudly the fanatic followers of Mohammad will scream when they see him eating some nice pork BBQ.

Tabasco, I have one you can borrow, and I think we live close to each other. PM me.

(It might need a battery, and it's not digital, but it works)
