Can any one suggest a good method for badge removal?
For example removing the 2.5/3.0 badges on a Z4?
Does the dental floss trick work? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Use the search Function. I saw a thread on that subject here and one46fanatics concerning this process. They talk about using dental floss and a heat gun or hair dryer.

Thicker dental floss (read: stronger) with a hair dryer works well. Add in some patience as well :)
You have to be a touch more cautious using the heat gun.

I would shy away from a heat gun, they can reach 200*C easily and as you would imagine it has the potential to seriously damage your paint. Hair dryer is fine!
Might want to check to see if those badges have alignment posts, because if they do there will be little holes in the boot lid. I'm not sure what Z4 badges are like. Although, it is unlikely for small badges like the ones you are talking about.

That was going to be my next question. Are there alignment posts?
I'll dig around a little on that one and see what I can come up with.
Thanks guys.

ive done badges on so many cars......take fishing line.. and windew...pry the line throught the glue and use goo gone and add some wax to fix the sun stain around the lettering...very easy

Jump over to the E46 forum, there is a thread on the first page about badge removal.
Yep. The simple hair drier and floss has worked great for me. E30's, IS350, etc.

Yea just like pino said. Dental floss, hair dryer to remove the emblems and the goo gone to remove the glue residue and if there's ghosting. You need to polish that out and then apply a layer of wax or sealant of your choice.

don't sweat it. skip the dental floss. no need for heat. get some hi test fishing line - have a wax rag on deck. the dental floss thing broke for me repeatedly. if pulling up on one side with some hi power trilene doesn't do it (try higher test line before resorting to brute force) - a putty knife and extreme care will. I did it with a knife after breaking 20lb test with no marks. it's just rubber fittings and a friction fit.

Heat gun, plastic razor blades, new car solvent (to remove residual glue), hand glaze and wax.

You can also keep looping the dental floss. Make's sure it's not the cheap stuff.
