Now that my HID''s are working my high beams are really anemic or thats the way it seems since the HIDs are so bright and white. Without going to HID high beams what is everyone else using?

Appreciate the input.

Good question, cant wait for a good response.

Pretty sure you cant do HID highs since you can't turn HIDs on and off fast because it will burn them out quick.
Of course the only option for HID in highs would be to have Bi-xenon technology, thats just a single HID bulb, ballast, projector, but with bi-xenon it just removes the cutoff shield when you switch to high beam.

Thanks for the input. From the appearance no one is too concerned about high beams. I am new to the HID lights on my E36 so just getting used to them. Last night I was driving home from the airport in a light drizzle rain and found that the hight beams helped but were not the major factor they were with the factory lights. I am thinking of getting the Sylvania Silverstars and see if they help. I have also thought of going to a higher wattage light 80 r 100 watt and see if that is a help.

FYI, my brights on my Lexus Rx330 are not much of an improvement either since the HIDs are so bright.

You might wanna try using a different color, regular halogen bulb for your high beams. Definitely not whiteish as it will still seem off from your HIDs. I have 8000k lows and fogs and used 3500k looking bulbs which are bright yellow. Not a generally accepted euro headlight color but has been used by some, so to speak. The H7 bulbs i used are the same wattage as the stock ones but the downside for me is that they have a yellowish reflection on the high beam during daytime. But it'll keep the high beam flashing purpose and may save you extra bucks on going the bi-xenon route.

Thanks for the info. I was looking for H1's and i guess I will look on line and see what is available. Every one of the look alike bulbs have been short lived and experience. Interesting the lack of response on this question, you would think this would be valid. Oh well.

Thanks

i feel ya. the h1's just suck at putting light on, so im thinking about some HID highs as well.

On the E46's what's the stock HID bulb that they use if you bought it from BMW with HID's? I'd like to match colors if I go with the highs, and also can I get HID fogs that match the HID's?

I've seen this guy who replaced the projector w/ the high beam reflector on his e46 M3, it looked very good IMHO.

Can you send me the link to his car's page? That does look good. Here are my thoughts. Personally it bugs me when I use the brights which I have to a lot because I drive 3 hours one way to work through the mountains so it's dark the majority of the trip, and I don't like the look of the yellow halogen bulb and the HID mixed. I know the bulbs are still original, but if I wanted to do what was in that picture, and put a HID bright in there, would it be pretty cheap? Ayy suggestions? How about HID fog lights? What is the facorty HID bulb rating, like 6000k? I want all my lgiths to match. Maybe I have OCD, but I gotta do it.

I believe the factory xenon is 4300K, I've used 5100K and I liked it better than 4300K.

Ilike the projector for the high beam!! Anyone have a write up on the work involved, problems etc? It would be nice to get a better high beam than the current setup.

Uhh if you were to put HID's in the highs wouldn't you then not be able to flash anyone?
