i bought tails from ebay...the lenses look good, but the housing is shit...(hard to put in the bulbs) - my OBC then read "tail light failure" when i turned on the lights.... - i think someone suggested to unhook the battery before installing the lights, and u won't get the failure message...but i'm not sure if that'll work. there's a DIY on how to delete the "tail light failure" message on the OBC. i'm gonna try it soon.

hmmmm i guess it really is all luck??
i bought some ebay clear tails about a month ago... and i had the same problem with it being a big difficult to put the bulbs in, but they went in fine after i put some brute force into action...
i do not get the "tail light failure" message, and my tails work/look great, i'm pretty damn happy for $70shipped! :)

If the connections are good and the lights all work; then it would be the wire board within the lens that is bad.
Ebay lights are know for this. Be careful installing the lenses and put the bulbs in first. I have had no problems with mine. Although I have had problems in the past with another e-36 and ebay lights... specifically (G-Force Racing).
For <100 dollars...try em.
