Not sure if there is anything I can do (or that I'm not doing right), but I can only get CDs to play when they are in the 1st tray.

I've tried various CDs, but again, they only play when in tray 1. Whenever I press the buttons on the Nav system to switch discs (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) they all say NO DISC.

Do I have a bad CD changer? Does it need cleaning?

I have experience this problems with my e39. At times I would get no disc even in slot one. I took it to the dealer to see what was wrong with it and the dealer wanted $800 to change my cd changer. Their excuse was that they need to send the unit to Alpine to be fixed, than shipped back to them and than installed in the car.

I called BS!!!!! Man was i right. I blew some compressed aired in the magazine that holds the CD's and in the CD changer itself. Had a bunch of dust fly out. After that, I had no problem with my CD changer. Works great.

If that wouldn't have worked for me i was going to go out to best buy that have special CD's that clean the lense of cd changers. All you do is go through the tracks and the brushes that are put into the CD clean the lense.

So in short run through a cleaning first since that will take you the least time and money. If that doesn't work than go with a replacement. One preferable that is better!!!! :)
