View Full Version : Before and After Pictures of Your E39
12CoolDude 12-02-2007, 09:43 PM OK...maybe it's not a unique idea but how about posting back-to-back pix of your baby pre-mod and post-mod to remind us of the reasons we enjoy customizing our BMW's?!? For the moment, I have only minor mods to the 540 but I've included a couple shots of my old E32 750iL for filler. :D I'll add pix as I make some of the more obvious changes to the 540. :cool
Show us the love you have for your ride...:buttrock
EDIT: Just thought it would be fun to have b4&after pix in one place guys. I searched the threads and didn't notice anything like it so if you think your mod's have improved the overall look of your BMW, please post here. Thanks...

Nice thread but im not posting up 80 pics again. LOL here's a link instead
Awwww...c'mon man. You can post one of your earlier pix and then one of your most recent. No need to post all 80 again (although us pic whores would be MORE than happy to view them over and over again :D). Just thought it would be cool to see the transformations all in one convenient place for inspiration to all modders. :alright
Jerrysull2 12-03-2007, 04:07 AM Awesome thread, mine seems insignificant compared to these ones.

12CoolDude 12-03-2007, 08:18 AM +1 on the Euro plate Jerry, I like it! Have you considered clear heads, markers and tails? It would certainly sweeten the deal. Personally, I like the chrome trim but I'm bettin doughnuts to dollars that many would agree that she would look hawt with the chrome delete. I've seen the black on black and it does look fairly awesome.

12CoolDude 12-03-2007, 03:47 PM Nice xbmx89...she looks WAY cool. What lighting setup did you use? Are they OEM angels or aftermarket? I want that upgrade but I already have the factory Xenons so i may just opt to replace the housings.
xbmx89 12-03-2007, 03:50 PM thank 12cooldude! they are umnitza 6k hid p39s.
Jerrysull2 12-03-2007, 05:14 PM Yes, I've considered clear corners, markers and tails, but I think I may want to go with more of a smoked look. I'll make this decision when I get a set of angel eyes:ponder
As for the chrome, I guess I can say that I have weird taste. While many say that the car would look better without chrome, I actually like the look of a black car with chrome trim. It gives the car a bit of that suave, sophisticated look. The tinted windows tops it all off as well. But if my car were any other color than black, believe me, I'd agree with the chrome delete option.
Just shows my strange:rolleyes taste. Just like the fact that I really would prefer the look of my stock bumper over an M5 bumper, just personal opinion.
Now, if all goes according to plan, I should be driving a different looking beast come springtime, and I can post more drastic changes:devillook
12CoolDude 12-03-2007, 09:58 PM C'mon you guys...are there are only a few modders out there? I had the distinct impression that this forum consists almost purely of radical modders so we wanna see more b4&after pix please...

oh common!!!! :) I started modding the first week as well (I ordered tons of parts while laying in bed recovering lol) but I made sure to take pics the 3rd day I had the car before I did anything to it! I always have a pre-mod photoshoot with every car I get!
either way I still heart your car haha <3 <3 <3

Would you believe me if I told you that my D40 is the first camera that I've ever owned? The 528i made me buy it.
I don't have pics of the 72 beetle that I poured out so much blood sweat and tears for (repaint, new interior, rebuilt motor...etc), My 84 190e that I hooked up, or my love....my 944.....:(.
This 528i is the first car that I actually wanted to take pictures of. Everything else I just drove. I loved driving them! I could look at them, but it just didn't really do anything for me. The 528i, on the other hand, makes me drool everytime I look at it :D

asama 12-04-2007, 01:07 AM I bought the car 2nd hand when it was 2 years old... kept the car original for another 3 years
I started the M tech look mod because I got the 2nd hand front and rear M tech bar really cheap, and I also used a few after market parts: head lights cover, tail light, PDC, exhause tip, Fog Light, 4300k HID, M5 mirrors, front grill, rear lip spoiler....
I sold all the original bar and fog lights for AU$450, I end up paying AU$680 for parts and labour for the whole convertion. I had 17" M sports wheel on my car, but I didn't like the way it drives... no power, real slow... SORRY its only an 523i:embarrasm so, swap back to 16" 530 wheels!

Only 50k miles on her and besides the driver seat I dont think anyone had used the passenger or rear seats. I put very little work into fixing it and it drives like clockwork. I love BMW's :D

Nice and clean. Looks like someone curbed the heck out of her though. Watched a friend do that to his VW on a snowy day. We warned him not to go out and he did it right in front of us, no more than 25 feet from the front of the house where we were renting. BTW, was there any suspension work you had to do or was everything still fairly str8? :)

:lol...as far as work i had to do, it was all mainly suspension work it needed. I replaced teh lower control arm, the spindle, outer tie rod end, the strut, the rim/tire, then when i got it rolling i noticed it was pushed all the way back and popped the brake booster. So picked one up in really good shape from the junk yard for $100 threw it on there. Drives very good. I picked up a sport steering wheel with airbag from a fellow bimmerforum member and finished it off with an alignment and a detail.

wahoosteeler 12-07-2007, 05:18 PM chigga, thanks for posting pics of your 5 with M6 wheels. i plan on going that route when my current tires burn up in about 5k. i've been wanting to see some on a 5 and to my surprise hadn't seen any yet. are those oem's made to fit or reps? look like 19s?
looks sweet!
flipppalot - I broke one so I decided to take all 4 to the recycling center.
$1000 when new $56 in used aluminum. What a bummer.
I need to take some new pic with added shadowline.

yeah - the style 5s were nice in their day - but they were in need of refinishing (peeling clearcoat). It was cheaper to get the 66's vs. refinishing each wheel.

Yes, Tire Rack had the bore spacers on their parts list. Cost me about 10$. The only difference was the center bore size, I had to put a milled bore spacer in to make it the right bore size. Money well spent :D

good questions .. 18's Breyton Visions are too soft for the NY roads .. bent the wheels and didnt want to deal with them anymore .. But the wheels would have looked good with the M-tech bumpers .. waste of money on those wheels .. back to stock and now still looking for another set ..
Chigga 12-17-2007, 05:13 PM very nice!!! what rims do you have on now? the M6 reps or the ones in your sig? I like both alot. youre car is honestly the best looking e39 with M6 reps that Ive ever seen. some of them look kind of blah. props to you man!
thx for the comment, I have to use M6 reps due to brake clearance, I'm quite amazed by the quality of Miro M6 reps, they are 19x8.5 and 19x9.5, the rear weights about 27lbs +/- couple ounces, and its quite durable, they currently have snow tires mounted on them.

Aren't the RK's center bore 72.56mm???
I would think you would need to bore out the RK's to get the 74.1mm center bore need for the E39...???
The reason I am asking is, I found some 18" RK's with 13mm offsets and the 72.56mm center bore.
I really don't want to bore them out...
Thanks!

I just backtracked all of my email contacts with person I bought these from and from Tire Rack. The BBS RKII wheels were originally purchased for an E34 M5. The offset is 22 and 25. It requires a hubcentric ring (aluminum, also from tire rack, I can give you the part numbers if you like) and it might have required a spacer, but I dont recall putting one on. I did not have to bore these at all. If you are looking at a BBS RKII with those dimensions, then it is one not made to fit an E39 so be careful. Hope this helps...

So I am assuming that the RK II wheels you bought had a larger center bore than 74.1mm, in order to use the adaptor rings....
Thanks!

jord1016 12-19-2007, 01:10 AM I'm kinda bummed out I can't be part of this thread. My car has come so far, I just thought the car was fugly when I first bought it. I mean she was surely a diamond in the rough and was full of potential but with all the black/chrome trim, the monstrous non-sport suspension, the equally ginormous sidewalls of my 15" wheels, and that wood grain only a grandpa could love really made my car an ugly duckling. The moral of this story was I was too embarrassed to take a photo of the car in its original state. Anyone have a pic of a stock Aspen Silver E39 for a comparison?

My car is essentially identical to UncleWiggly's (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=572384) car with some small differences. We both have the same kit, wheels, tint, black'ed emblems, black grill, etc. I don't have the eyelids (possibly...), a roof spoiler (possibly...), clear HL's (am going to paint the orange), smoked tails (yet) or coilovers (love the FSD's and Eibach kit!)
...so the photo potential is much higher than what I posted ;)

I think the m5 wheels fit your car better, they look really nice with the red, the mpars make it look kind of docile, FTW either way though :buttrock
12CoolDude 03-04-2008, 01:11 AM +1...FTW both ways! Whatcha gonna do with those M5 wheels?!? I love those and wanted them but the MY I bought had 17" Style32's in really good shape so I couldn't justify ditching them to my wife. Maybe though, if the price is right, she'd be as interested as I.
Sooo, whatcha gonna do with those M5 wheels again and how much do you want to get them out of your garage??
