View Full Version : Hose I.D.
e21bimmer320i 12-02-2007, 07:18 PM This hose is too short (it has been cut it looks like) and I want to replace it. I don't know what it's called though.
1. In the first picture, what engine part is the hose connected to (in other words, what is that gold thing's name)?
2. In the second picture, what engine part is the hose connected to (it's circled in aqua)?
3. An overview of the hose's location.

here you go.now we are talking...
e21bimmer320i 12-02-2007, 07:28 PM is it the throttle stub to auxillary air valve?
charbel 12-02-2007, 07:29 PM the gold thing is the air valve and the hose might shrink because it is old and the heat of the engine. but i might be worng. that is all i know. sorry

thanks charbel. maybe it shrunk, i don't know. but it has a diagonal cut on the tip which makes me think the previous owner cut it at one time.
Layne 12-02-2007, 09:04 PM The second pic is the intake manifold, where all vacuums originate. I have no idea what its connected to since I don't own a 77-79. That is just standard hose available by the foot in any auto parts store. Just take off your one and carry it in with you. $3 and 10 minutes and you're done.
busemans 12-02-2007, 09:22 PM that doesn't even look like hte engine in my car

mine is a 78; yours is an 80. that's why it looks a little different
busemans 12-02-2007, 09:33 PM i saw some pics of an intake and stuff on ebay that looks just like yours though, its 20 bucks for the whole thing, intake, tb, everything
e21bimmer320i 12-02-2007, 09:36 PM 20 bucks for the whole engine?
busemans 12-02-2007, 09:36 PM no, just the intake and stuff bolted to it.
e21bimmer320i 12-02-2007, 09:37 PM oh, cool

well i have to buy a couple of things from bavauto so i'd like to get the right hose since this one would be measured out properly.
which one of these would you guys say is the one i need?
1st pic: Hose - Auxiliary Air Valve to Plenum
2nd pic (top right): Valve Cover Breather Hose - valve cover to intake hood
3rd pic (bottom): Hose - Throttle Stub to Auxiliary Air Valve
gabmwdrvr 12-02-2007, 10:10 PM None of those since it is not a pre-formed hose. Take Layne's advice and buy it at your local auto parts store. They usually sell them by the foot.

Oh, I didn't know that. Okay. I'll take the advice.
Layne 12-02-2007, 11:02 PM Bavauto doesn't sell generic hoses that you can get anywhere.
onesimo58 12-03-2007, 04:16 AM I love not having cis. To me it looks like a convoluted mess. My engine bay is very open, so everything is to easy to access. I feel sorry for you guys that have to deal with all that.

Layne 12-03-2007, 09:34 AM Agreed. CIS blows. K-fish should have never been replaced

What does CIS stand for? Yes, my engine is a little convoluted I guess. But it's in pretty good looking shape, wouldn't you say for the year it is?
Layne 12-03-2007, 06:48 PM CIS stands for continuos injection system. That just means that all the injectors are spraying the entire time the engine is running, not in squirts like most other injection systems.

Are our cars CIS?

so what do you have your condensor wire going to that allows you to run your distributor. i am considering a carb conversion but need to know how to run the distributor
onesimo58 12-04-2007, 12:19 AM You have an 82 and an 83? Our ignition systems are quite a bid different. You have some sort of electronic ignition and have to use an ignition control module. Mine stock had points and a condenser. I am currently using the crane xr 3000. Im not positive but I dont think you have to do anything with your ignition system to run a carb.

Yes your car is in pretty good condition. I do like. I was to lazy to take a current pic of my engine bay. Thats why mine looks dirty. Thats back when I first bought it.

excuses, excuses. :)
Layne 12-04-2007, 01:37 AM The ignition is independent of the fuel system on both systems, points or electronic. You don't have to do anything.

I believe so, but I have never owned a 80's+ e21. This makes me not completely sure. Hopefully someone else will step in and help out with your question. I don't want to give out false information.
Layne 12-04-2007, 02:06 AM It wasn't a question, I am giving the answer.
onesimo58 12-04-2007, 02:15 AM Sorry about that. I wasn't paying attention to who was replying. Thought you were busemans asking a question.

:rofl
busemans 12-04-2007, 07:56 PM ok, so converting to carbs i just leave the ecu in and the car runs fine? or the ecu isn't hooked to the bistributor and i just yank the whole she bang out and be happy with lovely carbs like all my vws and old stangs had
onesimo58 12-05-2007, 03:05 AM I have a set of 40 mm dcoe's that I am willing to part with for $300. I also have one 40mm intake manifold (only for one carb) and a 45mm manifold.
busemans 12-05-2007, 09:48 PM i have a buddy whos boss has 17 or 20 old 1602 and 2002 in his shop yard. he uses them for parts for his track car and said i can pull anything i want engine wise for 40 bucks. he has the single intake and carb and the two carb intake with carbs so i just have to decide which one i want
