View Full Version : meguires colorx? Dayp 11-29-2007, 11:43 PM is it good stuff? says it brings back color in paints. paid $10 for it. thanks WolfStrong 11-30-2007, 12:20 AM Just like ScratchX, it works if you work it! I see you have a 94' e34, so you are working with a soft clear coated paint. While ColorX will not completely remove swirls, it will defiantly help your situation, along with most importantly, polishing and protecting the paint. ColorX is my go-to product when I have nasty water etchings in weird places that I can't easily get a polisher, but the key is to WORK IT HARD! M0nK3y 11-30-2007, 08:57 AM Is it just a filler, or does it remove the swirls? WolfStrong 11-30-2007, 01:28 PM No fillers and like I said, it will not completely remove swirls. Will it help? Well that depends on the level of paint correction your looking to achieve. If you have used any paint cleaner before by hand, you will know what I'm talking about how they will defiantly help, but will never get perfect results. Even fillers are limited to their ability of hiding imperfections. ColorX has what you can call chemical cleaners. What this means is that it does not have 'rocks in a can' or diminishing abrassives that act like, well sand paper rubbing against the surface to level it out. Chemical cleaners are very mild and help to remove paint etchings and minor swirls. It then has polish which gives the paint a little bit of luster, and a wax to protect it. So basically, is it going to be a product that will make your surface perfect? No, and no all-in-one hand applied product will. Is it worth the $10? Absolutely! Again, this is a product that you more or less do 'touchups' with on showcars, or as a product that someone can throw on their every day driver who doesn't care about doing the 5 steps of paint care seperately, and just wants to keep the paint from failing. Trust me, just like Klasse AIO, there are 101 uses for this stuff. Pictures of what you are dealing with could help out a little and telling us what you are trying to accomplish. M0nK3y 11-30-2007, 04:45 PM I already use Meguiars 3 step process, and I use clay bar also. Just so sealant. I was just wondering if it would work any better than Meguiars Step 1, Paint Cleaner........ Im buying a PC after christmas, with Menzerna products. Its just the waiting period in between............ WolfStrong 11-30-2007, 05:11 PM ColorX is more agressive than the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner if that is what your asking, but you won't be able to use Deep Crystal Polish or wax and expect them to layer. Just ColorX it until you get the PC, then the world will open up to a whole new variety of products that will quickly drain your wallet! Woot! M0nK3y 11-30-2007, 08:54 PM alright.......cool cosmom3 11-30-2007, 10:51 PM Its an okay product, if you want good results I'd pursue a PC. Dayp 11-30-2007, 10:55 PM ya its a 94 and its been repainted, im not going for any results, my paints great, but sounds like something extra to add a bit of shine and protection. i already use ice spray detailer, nu finish polish and black magic liquid wax. but can i add all 3 plus the color x? WolfStrong 11-30-2007, 11:14 PM Most likely, no. I for one do believe the only purpose of layering products is to get uniform coverage (with few exceptions like Klasse AIO and SG where the products are made to do so). You might also want to consider Meguiar's UQD over the ICE Spray Detailer. The ICE detailer, while good, just can't compare and tends to add a subpar wax. The Hydrophobic ability of the UQD (Ultimate Quick Detailer) is just breathtaking and worth every penny. Black Magic isn't really a great wax, to say the least, and Nu Finish could be worse. In essence, ColorX alone is much better than Black Magic wax and Nu Finish put together. I would just use ICE QD up, and when you do, next time just go out and try Meguiar's UQD. The ICE stuff is good, just not the best for the price, so don't worry. M0nK3y 12-01-2007, 01:06 AM Its an okay product, if you want good results I'd pursue a PC. once i get through Christmas, and my 1k bill from lighting componets for my car.......Then its PC.....300+ dollars of PC and products, pads, polish, compounds, sealant.........My wallet is starting to burn just thinking about it |
