Any ideas pls ?? promp3 11-29-2007, 03:17 PM on the rear control arms on the wheel bearing side, there is a eccentric bolt, lift the tire off the ground loosen the nut and rotate the bolt to adjust camber. there are marks on it but those are not a very accurate guide. techvet 11-29-2007, 10:10 PM Even if you knew the bolts to turn to adjust alignment, you can never bring it to specs without any complex measuring tool (and of course the normal specs). All that you can do is to approximate proper camber (or toe). Help the economy! Help your community! Go to your neighborhood aligner. promp3 11-30-2007, 06:02 AM You can do it your self, with no machines, it is very difficult, you use chalk lines, strings and plumb bobs. I replaced my steering rack, and unbolted every thing that controls the alignment at one time or another. I just put it all back together measuring the tie rods(and using the steering rack alignment tool) and just steping back and eyeballing the wheels and what direction they were pointed, I was very suprised how close I got the alignment by just free handing it, the car it was almost within spec. Its not sutable to drive on the street and expect good tire wear but the car diddnt pull or crab or anything. i DONT! support my local alignment shop, the one I went too wich I think is one of the best in town charged me $100 becasue my car was a bmw and "modified" yet it is easier and quicker to align than a stock honda civic. Most places I called won't align bmws becasue they are too retarted to work on that type of car, I guess becasue it has a roundel on the hood. The dealership charges a ton of money to do an alignment and supposedly they do use wieghts to simulate a full load on the car, but I can't see the point of that at all... if the suspention geometry changes when it is loaded... adjust it acordingly with the vehicle un loaded..motherf*ckin duh! Just like how every other car is aligned! Also the place I went to, I guess their common practice is to use channel lock pliers insted of a wrench to make the adjustments, and they chewed up and rounded off my shiney brand new tie rods...They also would have screwed up my wheels quite badly by using the wrong tips on there sensors if I diddnt put the stock wheels on knowing that was probably going to happen. I would have shot people. Id probably be typing this in jail with a murder sentence. it also saved my adjustable camber arms by wraping them in tape they would have been chewed up by channel locks too had I not been planing for poor toolmanship skills(I just made that word up and I like it) I am getting so pissed off thinking back on my horrable alignment, It feels good to rant about it though. oh and I also took my caddy to sears becasue there shop is pretty nice. but, the retards there couldnt get the steering wheel perfectly straight, after 2 tries I diddnt feel like taking it back anymore, plus it a land yacht and you cant help but swerve all over when you drive it. they were however, more careful with the car and actually used the proper tools and they diddnt even charge me for there second try, it was half the price of the other place and the car is really 10x more difficult to do an alignment on... I am so pissed off right now, god I hate every shop in this town. I feel sorry for anyone who read this whole post. I just need to stop typing before I get so pissed I go out and sucker the first person I see. I should make a friend that works at some shop that can let me do my own alignments, or I can at least trust enough to do them for me with out ruining every thing they touch. ptarditi 11-30-2007, 07:18 AM The weight matters, the Hunter machine is extremely accurate. We also have to measure body height, active steering, etc. We used to aling 2002's with a toe bar and string. |
