Hi James

I had the same problem on my E39, and it indicates an error on the right hand side temp control selector.
I just removed the controlunit from the dashboard, opened it, vacuumed all the dust and wiped clean all accessible connectors. That sorted it...

the bmw diagnostic software has been updated to ignore this errounous error. the carsoft software will show this as an error.
