View Full Version : I got some GO...little SHOW...now how about some HANDLING?
highboostingm3 11-27-2007, 12:16 AM SOME NEW GOODIES ARRIVED TODAY!:devillook
I have been putting off replacing some things for a very long time so it was time to take the plunge and make this car properly use the power it has. :evil2
Thank you Marco (marc1119) for your help! I got a ton of different answers to my suspension questions and thank you for giving me the confidence to finally order what I needed! :buttrock
The tires will be balanced tomorrow and alignment will be done Wednesday after the new stuff is installed! :alright
I am having installed tomorrow (except motor mounts):
-Vorshlag poly motor mounts (backordered and I will have very soon)
-Vorshlag camber/caster plates (pictured)
-Vorshlag spring perches for the coilovers (pictured/underneath camber/caster plates)
-Powerflex RTABs (pictured)
-Powerflex LCABs (pictured)
-UUC tranny mounts (pictured)
-Ground Control RSMs (at shop)
-Motorsport X-brace (pictured)
Suspension/Drivetrain mods on vehicle:
-H&R coilovers
-Eibach sway bars
-Bearfoot front strut bar
-Ground Control RLCAs
-AA diff support bracket
-Rogue Engineering finned diff cover
-Diffsonline built triple clutch/polished gears/30-90 rampage/2.79 LSD
-Driveshaft Shop 1000HP driveshaft
-Driveshaft Shop 1000HP half shafts

I plan to change out the coilovers to TC Kline some day in the future, but I think this should help me out for now.

Oh it will! I think the RTABs and RSMs especially were jacked and causing issues along with balancing/alignment.

SiGmA 11-27-2007, 12:28 AM Looks like a pretty decent setup Cam! Who's installing it, and who is aligning it?
highboostingm3 11-27-2007, 12:33 AM Looks like a pretty decent setup Cam! Who's installing it, and who is aligning it?
Tim at Speed Force Racing (http://www.speedforceracing.com) will be installing everything and a local alignment shop which uses lasers will do the alignment. Down the road if I feel I want to get really crazy with the alignment the best place needs a pretty big notice to get an appointment in Gardena. However, they will corner balance and align by hand making everything perfect. I don't have time for that now and that is more for the circuit racers anyway.
el bob 11-27-2007, 12:47 AM Nice Cam, it's going to be sick! (as if it wasn't already :D)
HellKat 11-27-2007, 01:02 AM Nice. Did you get those offset 95 m3 CA bushings or are they useless now?
Ive always heard better reviews/ performance with GC track/school kit rather then TC Kline, just a suggestion. What stage TC?
gboezio 11-27-2007, 01:08 AM Power is nothing without control !!

Thanks! I can't wait to see how she feels!
Nice. Did you get those offset 95 m3 CA bushings or are they useless now?
Nah, mine is a 97 and I think you need other mods for the offset ones. Marco told me just to get the on-center.
Ive always heard better reviews/ performance with GC track/school kit rather then TC Kline, just a suggestion. What stage TC?
Yeah I have been torn between the GC track/school and the TCK D/A 2-ways which is why I haven't taken that plunge. Don't want to blow $1500-$2K.
Power is nothing without control !!
Damn straight.
Bigsalgt 11-27-2007, 01:51 AM Cam, more pictures and videos please! Just start driving somewhere and tape it! Who cares about the business and the family! Your an entertainer, we need these videos ASAP!!

Cam I just got the TCK DA's and I have been waiting to install them but my weekends are always booked!
Would you like a review of them once I install and DD the car for a week?

:lol The car is at the shop. By Wednesday once all is installed and I get balance/alignment, until I decide to change the EBC and have line locks installed I will be driving her around with a video camera in the car at all times.

That would be fantastic.
Drifter 11-27-2007, 02:09 AM That would be fantastic.
Cool, just remember my car doesn't have balls to the wall hp its just a lazy little 3.0L trying to make it to work and home everyday. So my review isn't going to hit home to well seeing that I don't have 3rd gear traction problems.

Why not a reality show, man you could pay your car worth of advertising, Kids playing with speed force parts in the bath tub, wife drying her hairs with a 800 hp motor driving a centrifugal SC in the living room, lots of fun :D

Trying to get ready for it. Just got on my ET Streets 26x11.50. Im gonna setup Anti-lag as well and go.

Love it!
badluckM3 11-27-2007, 08:26 AM Its great to see you are not babying this awesome HUGE money pit you've assembled. A lot of people would be scared to ever drive the thing let alone drag and track it with the amount of money vested.
Quick question: Do you ever do any of you own work on the car? If not, do you have a buddy at the shop that hooks you up? I'm just saying, Tim should take you out for dinner for keeping his shop paid and open. :)
Bad Bimr 11-27-2007, 02:21 PM Nice setup but with all the power you are making consider using the JTB Tranny Brace (http://jtdesigns.stores.yahoo.net/higpertranbr.html) over the UUC tranny mounts.

What happened to your car?
GGray 11-27-2007, 04:35 PM You shoudl check out the AST stuff. Really nice looks nicer then TCK of GC.
For Drag racing though you may want something diffrent.

Hmmmm...never heard of it. Anyone actually have experience? I need to hear from people I can trust and have heard great stories on:
-GC
-TCK
-Tein
Don't know which yet.
This car isn't really for drag racing. I will only do that on rare occasion for trap speed and shits and giggs to try an OK ET. I am more interested in circuit racing and freeway flogging.

Hehe, tell me that again once the bug bites.
Schneller Bayer 11-27-2007, 08:12 PM Cam have you considered Advance design? That's what Pablo has running on his m3. They're made by ground control (or atleast sold by) but marketed as their own line of coilovers.
slcook54 11-28-2007, 12:33 AM Cam you going to make it for tomorrow?
highboostingm3 11-28-2007, 12:46 AM Hehe, tell me that again once the bug bites.
Gosh I hope not. I have spent enough on this money pit. :help

Nah...I am actually drooling over the AST/Vorshlag COs which were mentioned. Might go that route.
Cam you going to make it for tomorrow?
I am really hoping. I will let you know tomorrow afternoon. Stuff always seems to come up when I make promises. :rolleyes

Jim M3 11-28-2007, 09:27 AM Ive always heard better reviews/ performance with GC track/school kit rather then TC Kline, just a suggestion. What stage TC?
I disagree, the TC Kline DA's are the nicest set up out there besides going to pure racing shocks. I have had the SA Koni's and the DA TC's and the DA's are just unbelievable. My car handle so good and the TC springs are fantastic.

I had considered Tein but I just heard too many negative things about them. Go with what the racers go with TC Kline, TC races all of his own equipment and wins :)
The DA's are just out of this world for adjustability and control. GC only makes a SA shock system so you don't get bump and rebound. Also TC Kline uses a much better spring than GC, plus they are not cut and cobbled like GC. If you look at a TC Kline set up they are all anodized and don't rust.
I am not a vendor of TC Kline but a big proponent of their product.

I've worked both with TCK and GC on setting up suspension on my car. While I agree TCK has vastly superior customer service and his suspension kits are very nice indeed, I disagree that GC sells "cut and cobbled" springs. Unless things have changed recently, they are off the shelf Eibach springs and work just fine.

Not the springs the shock bodies, They cut and weld their bodies together and they tend to rust pretty quickly. I admit my bias against GC, I had several failures with their products before I went to TC Kline equipment. I ended up removing all of my GC equipment from my car.
highboostingm3 11-28-2007, 11:32 AM Thank you for the information. I am now down to just TC Kline in that list because I have not heard one bad thing about them yet. I would like more information on AST/Vorshlag though. There quality looks amazing but if the ride and experience isn't as good as TC Kline, that is what I need to hear in order to make a decision. AST are also much more expensive than TCK so TCK is looking really good right now. The local BMWCCA president goes to my local meets and swears by TCK winning lots of autox events and doing very well on the road courses.

Also customer to TCK responce time is great at both locations.
Jim M3 11-28-2007, 11:46 AM TC Kline will also help you dial in that suspension, they give you great help with settings and race day prep. Their is no better support on their product than TC Kline.
5mall5nail5 11-28-2007, 11:49 AM Yeah well GC comes to my house every morning before practice and makes me sausage and eggs, leaving it at the foot of my bed so I can wake up to the sizzle of fresh breakfast.
So, HA

highboostingm3 11-28-2007, 12:56 PM TC Kline is probably going to get a call from me in a few weeks. Sounds like a wonderful experience! :)

You're a man of strong opinions Jim.
slcook54 11-28-2007, 07:13 PM How is it looking Cam?
Schneller Bayer 11-28-2007, 07:17 PM If TCK races his own shit... and wins... that's undeniable testimony right there.
highboostingm3 11-28-2007, 07:26 PM How is it looking Cam?
So far so good. Vorshlag overnighted the correct size spring perches so they could finish installing the camber/caster plates because I apparently have a set of dinosaur H&R coilovers and the 60mm ones would not work. All the other bushings, etc. are installed. Tires are balanced. No time for alignment but that can be done tomorrow or Friday. I probably won't drive WOT until after that is done to be sure.
Little oil leak is being fixed and then they can pressure test for those leaks.
slcook54 11-28-2007, 07:43 PM Nice, what time are you heading over?

Yes, great plan if you're building a racecar. A streetcar needs a totally different setup.
Schneller Bayer 11-28-2007, 09:02 PM Yes, great plan if you're building a racecar. A streetcar needs a totally different setup.
No kidding:rolleyes
But if they can produce top notch racing systems, then surely they'll get the handling part of their street systems right.
Race on sunday, sell on monday. Their racing success will never be a negattive towards their street systems.
highboostingm3 11-28-2007, 09:08 PM Yeah I am pretty convinced with TCK now. There is just too much random good press. I have never heard one bad thing and the large percentage of positive responses are always for TCK every time I have asked. That's not by accident.

I don't think that's a logical conclusion at all, especially when it comes to suspension.
