View Full Version : ///M badge on my new E34 535?
My car just arrived off the slow boat from Japan and has cleared customs waiting for me to pick it up...
My inspector just sent me pics - see the pic below...forgive my noobness, but was that M badge stuck on there by a ricer? Do I need to get that pulled off of there asap?
Looks like it's got an M badged steering wheel too. I know there's an E12 & E28 M535i, but don't think there's an E34...I'm so confused. :confused

ohnoes 11-25-2007, 03:32 PM I do recall reading something somewhere about the E34 M535i. Your car does appear to have the sport package (M-tech steering wheel, sport seats albeit cloth), so it would not surprise me if it was originally badged that way. Now, whether it was badged like that from the factory or from the dealer is another story...
vibes 11-25-2007, 03:33 PM Yes, pull it off.
jhower08 11-25-2007, 03:35 PM looks like it was just placed there by a "ricer." I don't believe they made a m535i e34 as you said. As for the steering wheel, its an mtech 2 wheel, most likely installed by the same "ricer", even though that was definitely a more tasteful mod.
ohnoes 11-25-2007, 03:41 PM Yeah, after doing some research, it looks like only the E28 had the M535i. Just a Euro ricer. :rolleyes
SMRTASS 11-25-2007, 03:48 PM the M-badge was never a option . . but in Germany are many M-tech E34 who have em on . . so you could say it looks european :D
take off the M badge. leave the steering wheel.

It does have a Euro VIN. Nice set of smilies too.

Same as mine, Euro spec Japan import. I suspect they came stock with smilies and clear corners. Mine also had an Mtech I steering wheel as a factory option. No ///M badging though.
Please give us the rundown on your new toy. Price to your door, mileage, options (or lack there of). Mine has cloth interior, no sunroof, no cruise, euro trim. I suspect yours is probably similar.
Have fun
SilburSurfer 11-25-2007, 04:22 PM Ya the only i've ever heard of is an e34 M540i where it came with everthing that the M5 had except the engine.Only a few in the US, and a little more in canada, my friend owns one and its easily the nicest e34 i've ever seen.

You believe everything you read?
There was never an E34 ///M535. There was an E34 ///M540i and both E12 and E28 ///M535i's.
It was surely not badged from the factory that way, but it was pretty common for dealerships to sell the sport package as the "///M" package and add the badge themselves, especially in Europe. A prev. owner might have done it as well.
It is your car, but personally I'd remove it...

Woah, woah calm down:
Yeah, after doing some research, it looks like only the E28 had the M535i.
Id pull off the M badge, youll get a lot of crap from mostly non-BMW owners about it. Ive had people tell me that my E28 M5 was fake, since there was never an M5 made in that year.
Sam Son 11-25-2007, 06:17 PM Ditch the badge unless you have some M power

Analog 11-25-2007, 06:36 PM I think you should debadge the whole thing.
rsnajork 11-25-2007, 06:53 PM NO just put a big wing on it and change the plate to read I can fly. That will seal the deal, or you could debadge it and not get crap from people as you try to explain the POS PO's story of being wierd lol just my 2cnts:D
moroza 11-25-2007, 07:20 PM I've never heard of an E34 M535i. If BMW ever made one, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't've come with a GM-made slushbox.
///M3Vader4dr 11-25-2007, 07:25 PM take off the M badge. leave the steering wheel.
agreed
Thanks for the feedback - I'm coming from the Skyline scene and would never have dreamed of flying a GTR badge on my GTS. I was pretty sure there was no E34 M535 - but was almost hoping it was some kind of rare Euro package.

Just a touch over $7k to my door. Full power group, sunroof and OBC (pretty impressed with that as I was expecting the ugly analog clock). Oh and a Sony 10 disk in the trunk. Cloth interior and the droopy headliner/bald tire option. 38,400 kms, auction grade 4/B. Still has to pass my provincial inspection so she won't be in my hands for another week or so. Oh well, I thought I'd see the 2nd coming of Christ before it got here on the boat, so what's another week?

Just curious: Why?
Testercles 11-26-2007, 09:00 AM Hey, I was wondering how to tell if the VIN is European, because I live in Australia and believe that we get Euro spec BMWs.
I was also considering an ///M badge for my 535i, yet placing it on the left, nor next to the 535i badge. The car's Cirrus Blue.
Any thoughts?
Just curious: Why?
Federal/Provincial taxes, duty and registration included.
38,400 original km - that's under 25,000 miles.
$5,400 for the car alone.
Testercles 11-26-2007, 10:50 AM That's not a bad price. Sounds like it's in pretty good nick.

Ahh... I see. That thing is barely broken-in.

Putting a badge on a car that didn't have one from the factory is something that is generally considered to be bad-form. I mean, why not just slap a 'Dinan' badge on there as well? Right next to the //M?
That would be twice as bad-ass!
eightynine535 11-26-2007, 11:44 AM lets say one mods his/her 535i to M5 performance levels. could said owner justify an "M" badge next to the "535i" ??? or would a small "S" be better?
Whackamac 11-26-2007, 12:11 PM I agree with most.... I have a M3 engine in my e34 and I have been tempted to put a M badge on but as was said, there was no M series other than the M5 and M540 so it would look odd...

Make it a 535iS because its not M powered
and Whackamac I think it you were to custom badge your car as a M530 it wouldn't look so odd
If you "upgrade" to M parts.. it still does not make your car an M5... I'm sorry, but the "if it walks like a duck and acts like a duck" DOES NOT apply here. Upgrades are just that... upgrades. Your car IS a 525/535/530/540 with M parts.
zubbie 11-26-2007, 01:41 PM Perhaps with a few mods you could look as good as these fine examples

Testercles 11-27-2007, 03:02 AM shrike071, thanks for your POV. I was just wondering, what exactly is Dinan???
Smeg, I loved the "and the droopy headliner/bald tire option.", classy.
TJCHERK 12-06-2007, 10:25 PM I too just bought a 1991 535i ltd , 10th anniversary from Japan. Has 2 tone leather seats,:help grey with black bolsters. The VIN # is 18 digits instead of the usual 17 , is this common. Any other info sights on this particular car would be appreciated..
