I've opened up the bottom of my dash twice now, in search of this resistor. The blower for my climate control is not working and i've been told this may be the problem.

I already purchased the resistor and i've used my bentley manual to figure out the general area of where it is under the dash- driver's side. I looked on the side of the heater box towards the center console and I just can't find it:mad:

Please help me out

-btw my car is an e36- 97 m3

Here's mine on my 96 m3. I have a cheapo camera and sorry if the image is too big. It's located almost straight up from the gas pedal but towards the center console. It has a wire harness connector at the second top half. It's held in place by three or four hex screws. Once you unscrew it, just slide it out and replace it.

That is the final stage resistor. It is not the one everyone is looking for. The reason why I think anyone cannot find the cheap $30 resistor is because it simply does not exist! I think the dealer just has it listed as a part for us to buy and waste our money. They know electrical items are not returnable and will refuse to admit that it does not belong to the car. I eventually gave up and bought the final stage resistor for $80 ($50 cheaper than the dealer I might add..) It only took about 30 sec. to replace considering that I already had my lower dash apart. Turned the car on and all my problems were fixed. Now my girlfriend won't kill me when the summer comes around.

I've been trying to diagnose a similar problem. Were you guys experiencing the same thing?

1. blower motor works intermittently. doesnt matter if a/c is on or not.
2. climate control panel lights up perfect and LEDs work correctly. but the blower motor doesnt turn on.
3. i can "hear" the vents opening and closing when pressing buttons on the climate control panel.
4. since the blower motor isn't working, I'm unable to get a/c nor the heater either. The only thing that works is the rear defroster.

So, should I replace that $80 resistor too?

any help is appreciated.

-Eddie
