:help Need instructions on how to replace the water pump on my 1982 528e. I know the water pump is bad as water is coming out the weap hole. I know I need a 32 mm wrench as I had helped a friend when we put on a new timing belt a couple years ago but as for actually replacing the water pump I was hoping someone could give me instructions on how to do it.

Thanks

I replaced the water pump myself without a BENTLY MANUAL.... plus I have to say I'd be pissed for having spent the money on a bently manual for something that ended up being so easy to replace. However, it would have been nice to get some tricks of the trade which is what I was looking for. If anyone else wishes to tackle replacing a water pump and wants to know what I did I would be happy to help...

I have a tech article on the head gasket replacement, which (it has to) will basically cover the water pump install. I've unfortunately been so busy lately with another book that just came out. Let me know if you need any pics or hints...

Thanks wayne, but I was able to replace the water pump myself just by taking things apart till I figured it out, really was not that hard.

However one thing that has got me stumped is my Auxillary fan will not come on when my engine gets hot. I have replaced the resistor which I know was bad as now the fan will come on when I turn the A/C on but it will not come on, on it's own and the engine overheats in stop and go traffic.

Any ideas.

Ps: I also changed the radiator fan switch and that didn't help either.
