The dealer said this is pretty rare for a U.S. car, but the color is definitely different. So is the interior with the Highline package (cream leather with green piping).

The car had the usual scratches and swirls (63/k on the odometer), so I used a wool pad for paint correction followed by foam for polishing. The final wax was Meguiar's #26 (the shop standard).

Before pic is representative of the overall finish.

Bravo.

What wool pads are you using these days?

Most of the time, I use the Meguiar's Burgandy wool pad and backing plate that came with the SOLO kit. They are are mid-way from the pc pad diameter and the full 8" rotary pads. Very versatile and easy to work curves, headlights, etc.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. This color is one I've never seen before in the Bimmer line. I understand they had an Orinoco Blue as well.

nice toto... what was your process for paint correction/polishing??

Actually, I'm evaluating a product called System One X3. It's unique because you use a single product and start with wool for paint correction, then switch to foam for polishing. I removed some 2000 grit sanding marks from the trunk lid where I had some decent scratches (looks like the previous owner dragged a shopping bag across the trunk).

It works as advertised, produces a bunch of dust (so does 3M and Meguiar's) and it's nice to use a single product for both process'

I've got some off-lease auction cars coming and those will really tell how good this product performs.

hey thanks for that info toto, appreciate it... i am actually looking at the Menz IP and 106ff Nano Polishes. I use the XMT #3/#1 combo and its just not gettin ALL the swirls out that i would have hoped for... how have your experiances with Menz been?

I've had excellent results with the Menzerna line. The IP (and SIP) is a great swirl remover and the finish achieved with the 106ff is fantastic! I believe they are water based products, so you could use Zaino or other sealants immediately afterwards.

Nicely done. I like that color on that 7.

You know your pro when you have a lift for detailing.

so you polished and did all the paint correction, and then powerwashed it to remove product and dryed again?
