To date I have been given mixed reviews - some have told me replacing a 528e transmission with a 325i is a direct swap, others have said it has different gear ratio's, while others have told me it is a temporary fix and not good for the longevity of the car, while even others have told me the housing has to be manipulated to get the 325i transmission in to replace the old 528e version. If you have dealt with this or are in the know, please advise as to what to look out for in overhauling the old and putting in the new to bring my 528e back into good working order.

Thanks for the help on this -

Hello, the transmission is the same gearing, 260/5, but the rear flange where the driveshaft bolts up is generally different depending on which prod. split you go with. Personally I would recommend sourcing the proper transmission for the car. They are reasonable and fairly readily available at this point in the cars' lineage. GL! -J
