View Full Version : Official E46 M3 testimonials thread...
R1ckyB0bbyyy 11-21-2007, 12:27 PM Vent the good, vent the bad, vent the ugly. This is the thread for YOUR E46 M3 testimonial. Voice your experiences with the car, things you've had to fix and why, how much did it cost you... throw in a good story of an experience you remember with the car and why it was good or bad. Does it get old? Especially with the weak mod response? Leave nothing out.

Woot, 10-23 is my birthday. :buttrock
Which car do you like better, overall?
AlpinweissM3 11-21-2007, 10:56 PM Awesome car aside from it just breaking down on me last weekend. All though I do sometimes miss my E36 M3 I still feel it was a good move going to the E46. Owned since 11/06 only has 14,000 miles.
The handling on my E36 is like no there. The power and adrenaline that the E46 gives me makes me feel like the king of the road.
apollo322 11-22-2007, 02:02 AM I've Loved my vert e36m3 for the past 3 years, but it's needed its share of repairs and maintenance
I've loved every minute of my M coupe for the past year and,
I've loved the last 6 months with my E46M3
None of them have been particularly aggravating to own, repair wise. The few things you would expect to break have, and the major driveline elements have performed flawlessly. All of them have been an absolute joy to drive. While the E46 is clearly the better performer by most objective measures, if there was a fire and i could only grab one set of keys on the way out the door it would be the M Coupe's every time.
Helios 11-22-2007, 11:27 AM Owned my E46 vert since March of '06. It does whatever I want, whenever I want it to...that's my definition of a great car.
It's a classic! I don't ever intend to let it go.

:confused
An '06 broke down on you? That's not good. What happened?

Do you think with a proper suspension the E46 would be better than an E36? Reason I ask is I have extremely limited driving time with an E36 and I just got my E46, so I really can't draw comparisons without driving an E36 more (and even my E46). It has Bilstein PSS9 coilovers, so I'm wondering if maybe that would make it perform many times better than the factory setup, which I've heard isn't that great.

I had a faulty throttle position sensor they also replaced my EDK because it failed. All in all it was not a good day. I was about 60 miles away from home in the left lane going about 85 when my car decided to go into limp mode.
Ingenere 11-27-2007, 02:29 AM I'm coming up on 2 years with the E46 M3 and it has been a great car, with zero mechanical issues. It has performed as a commuter, dog hauler, track car and road trip car, brilliantly. We have used it as our test bed for our E46 M3 ECU tuning, and it has responded extremely well.
It is a great overall package. If I could sum the car up in one word, it would be 'balance'.
LeftcoastM3 11-28-2007, 03:44 PM E46 M3 SMG: bought November 17, 2007
the good....everything. It's awesome to travel in, and pretty much the only thing that takes my mind off not being able to ride my R6 much during the winter months.
the bad....I have to park it when I'm at work
Everett#2390 11-28-2007, 04:24 PM Ownership of present BMW since 3/06 --- one word: AWESOME !!!
Have had 5 flats, good thing I have Tire & Wheel Ins.
Bought rear tires at 12K miles, 6/07, due to last flat - OUCH! (I had to buy one tire).
Squeaky interface between top and boot - Service bulletin fixed it.
Dealer did replace a cracked battery.
A/C did quit cooling - dealer said nothing wrong, so they pulled out 8 oz and added leak detector and refilled, hmm, seems to me it takes more than 8 oz to fill the system.......
Previous BMW - '05 325Cic-bought 11/04 nice, but no cigar. No problems other than maintenance.
Would I buy another E46 M3? ...... In a heartbeat!
GeorgeM3SMG 11-28-2007, 09:40 PM Owned since 6/28/2006. Daily driver. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I go into withdrawals after 2 days, so I drive for vacations. Love the look. The feel. Everything.
Don't care what it's worth on the market. Don't care if it holds its value. To get the same thrill, I'd have to drop almost 2x what I paid for it on a new car, so they can have my E46 M3 when they pry the key from my cold dead fingers.
Unless I die in a fiery car crash. Then they can have the key after they pick me out of the car with a steel brush.
Except that damned sunroof shade. That thing's a bit annoying.
T6 Driver 11-29-2007, 12:51 AM Love driving it, but after owning a vette I wish it had a little bit more power. (it does handle better, though)
I'm hoping AA offers another good deal on its superchargers in about a year or so, since I can't afford to upgrade right now.
The new M3 has (from what I've heard) a push button start and iDrive, so I don't feel particularly motivated to 'upgrade' when the new one comes out.
