Gents,

Looking to abandon our '74 project and take on a '72 we found.

1972 BMW 2002, tan, 4 speed, 159k miles, approx. 30k miles on rebuilt engine, Bilstein shocks, Weber carb, solid body, runs well, inspected until September 2008. $2950

Sound fair? No idea yet of rust situation. Just wondering if 3k is high for somthing if it is not immaculate.

If it's rust free for the most part and all the rest of the car is in working order, then I'm not thinking that's a bad deal. Offer them $1,800 and see where they'll go with it. Maybe you can meet 1/2 way around $2,300 or so ...

Pictures tell a thousand words. I think I am going to ride over to this one tommorrow eveing, i will keep everyone posted. I think it looks like a nice ride. Just got off of the phone with the seller. Said 3 spots of surface rust. Not alot, but some through rust in spare wheel well. Engine rebuilt 6 years ago by Sports and Imports, Mike Robinson. Cali car up until 2000. Seems as if he is the 3-4th owner.

Hey Chris,
That car is a good deal I saw last night and I think I know Where that car came from If it is the one I think it is. Thats the one in Williamsburg. My 76 came from the same family who originally owned it. Let me know what you find out as far as history goes just curious if its the same car or not....

Marty,

Seems like the car was in order. Original owner until 2000, originally a Cali car. Engine rebuild done by Mikey Robinson over at Sports and Imports. Car has changed hands since 2000 two times. Went over to look at it last night. Although getting dark when we got there (going back over Sunday during the daylight hours), the rust that existed was not through, but surface. Trunk lid, but i have one i can use from the '74. Rocker panels and rear towers were clean. Interior was to be expected, but suprisingly the floor pans were rust free.....strange. But yea, I ended up putting a deposit down, and plan on making another trip out there on sunday to take a look in the light. I will keep everyone filled in. Cheers.

Marty,

Picked it up last night. No previous owner with last name of Domby. Maybe you want to check it out sometime. Stay in touch.

Chris

Chris,
Do you still have some "stuff" from the '74 that you've been parting?

I am looking for a few things for mine.

Shoot me an email: oh2randall at aol dot com

Glad to learn that you and John Wallace could come to terms! I look forward to meeting you at the 02NationFest 2008.
