So I'm on my way to the beach to pick up a friend of mine... and I'm coming to my favorite off ramp. Normally if I'm itching to fill that need for extreme handling I'll hit it about 60-65 ish, but seeing as how I'm at a lack of rear tires, I decide to take it calmly around 50ish. Most people attack the corner around 40-45ish.

The off-ramp is a complete roundabout making a huge sweeping 270degree turn to the right. As I'm going thru the turn I catch a glipse of something red farther around the corner. I'm closing on the car pretty quick and I'm like whatever, it's just another red hatchback. As I get closer (as we are nearing the end of the off-ramp)... guess the guy saw this white BMW about to be bearing down on him hard.

He hammers it... now to my amazement, the 928 starts to get sideways... I'm like OH CRAP, I'm gonna die. But no... the driver controls the drift through the corner and onto the straight. Seeing his car start to go sideway, I anticipated a spin so I downshift to 4th to slow down. When the road straightened up I mashed the gas to catch up to this guy... I knew this guy was no ordinary driver.

The 928S wasn't slowing tho, he had the hammer down too. Figuring 4th gear wasn't giving me what I needed, I dropped to 3rd... which was kinda futile cause that shot me to like 6000rpms in the 3rd. The time it took me to change gears from 4th to 3rd and back to 4th negated the gear change. I slowly crept up on the guy, but traffic was approaching so I backed off kinda early.

I finally get next to the guy and I see he's about in his 40s. The guy looks at me, shakes his head and give me the thumbs up... I then smile back. Now here's the part that gets me... we are rollin' pretty slow with traffic when the guy I guess dumps the clutch into 1st (we weren't stopped... we were rollin' slowly) and with a bunch of tire squeal zips around two cars and takes off.

I'm like WTF... get your candy ass back here! However, traffic was too thick and I didn't wanna risk it. So I let the guy go. It was interesting tho... the guy freely drifted his car around the off-ramp without a care in the world... at least that's what it looked like. The guy could have been pissing his pants for all I know... but he looked super cool while doing it.

So I'm on my way to work this morning and I catch traffic light. While sitting there a BMW 5er pulls up next to me. I think nothing of it, cause well, it's a 5er. You don't see too many people in a 5 wanting to have a go at a guy in an M3... especially in the early morning hours.

So I think nothing of it. Light goes green and the 5er leaps off the line, to the point where I get to see it's a 528i. I'm like WTF... oh no you don't. The leaping off the line was futile tho since there was a traffic light 500 feet away and it's always red when the light we just left turns green... always.

So I'm like... oh no you don't! I flip off the traction control and we both are at the light. He rolls up some, I follow. Light goes green and I get way too much wheel spin (spun 'em to redline -- damn bald kumhos). So much that the 528i bumper is at my door. I grab 2nd and start pulling away from the 528 furiously.

I'm happy and I continue on my drive to work still accelerating but easing my pace since i know the 528 has no chance of catching up. As I'm glancing the road ahead way way in the distance. I what looks to be a broken down vehicle on the side of the road. Instinct flashes back to my drive home last night and I don't remember any stranded vehicles. Then sure as ever, the glint off the hood of the car causes me to notice that in the left turn lane is another car... only thing is, there is no where to make a left, only a u-turn... which si rare.

So I'm like, OH HELL NO! I mash brakes... doing a quick 75ish -> 40 brake, with full force. The guy in the 528 follows suit I guess cause he didn't fly by me. Then sure as ever... my radar detector start flipping out! It's making more noises than I'd ever heard before.

LASER!

I'm like... damn, I'm so caught. I proceed to just roll by at 40 (speed limit is 45). I keep my eyes forward and continue on. I roll by the cops... and nothing. They didn't even look at me twice... at least I don't think so cause I sure as hell didn't look at them.

The guy in the 528i disappeared after that. I never saw him again. I looked around for him to wave ... kinda like a damn that was close sigh... but I never saw him again. Odd...

damn lucky. I had a similar thing with the cop happen to me no race though. I was coming home from the dealer (went lookin at all the new toys). The on rap to the highway has a down angle, a slight "S" curve in it and a traffic light at the top of the hill. Some dude in a van was edging up and bein a dick (previous road), so the light turns green and my little 325 (stick) GOES. That was the end of him anyways Iam having fun on the on ramp enter the highway at 100 (in a 55 should be 65) and I look down and was like "I better slow this shit down" so I put the break on rather hard look up and there is a reflection in the center grass strip ahead. Cop radaring or lasering. Luckily he was shooting into the sun other wise I would have been a dead duck. I was kinda scared though cause I don't know how far radar/laser goes I bet the shit in the van was pissed too :D

Did the 928 have tinted windows and gold-mesh BBS style wheels? If so I know who you are talking about - I see him all the time near my house.

Nice kill! A friend of mine has an old 944 4 cylinder Porsche and I want to see what he's got. I think it would be pretty close with my 318. Porsches are some nice cars.

He's probably a driving school vet. It's nice when you actually get to drive with a competent driver--it can be more fun than actually winning against an obvious idiot who happens to drive a good car. Too often you are so worried about actually getting nailed by some idiot. I wouldn't worry about the 928 using traffic. It is a legitmate ploy. I've used it myself on superior cars like C5 vettes, and I've had it used on me.
