View Full Version : Possible GB on OEM flywheel?....Vendors

Is there a possibility that any BF vendor would like to start a GB on OEM stock Flywheel? I was looking into LUK flywheel but unfortunately, they only carry the 3L style flywheel, i'm looking for the 3.2L flywheel, which is slightly lighter.

for those that don't like the LTW flywheel chatter....

TIA.

I would be interested in this too :) Chattering is OK in my EVO and civic but not so welcome in my bimmer i.e. I'd avoid it if I could..

I posted a thread about this earlier but didn't get a concrete response -> http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=839997
Seems like the LUK DMF037 is the only replacement for both S50 and S52 and it looks like it doesn't have the outer rim machined down to 22lbs

This guy http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=777037 did a custom single-mass flywheel (copied the UUC one) in 20lbs steel seems to do the trick for the noise/chatter.. Single-mass is preferred as it would probably outlast the DM..

In any case if any sponsor can find a brand new DM OEM S52 22lbs flywheel or a single-mass flywheel ~20lbs I'd buy it in a heartbeat :D

i contacted LUK..and they only make 1 OEM flywheel replacement for S50 and S52......basically it's the 95 M3 version, heavier. DMF037 is there part number

how much will that affect performance??

Here is an example of the differences in stock BMW flywheel weights:

BMW Dual-Mass
Flywheel Application Actual Weight
E36 M3 3.0L US 29.4 lbs.
E36 M3 3.2L US 22.7 lbs.
E36 M3 3.0L Euro 24.4 lbs.
E36 M3 3.2L Euro 24.4 lbs.
E36/7 M Coupe US* 22.8 lbs.

That's a savings of 6.7lbs when comparing a 3L flywheel to the 3.2L flywheel

just picked up this part # for the OE flywheel from realOEM.com for the 3.0L p/n:21212227820

and heres the one for the 3.2L flywheel p/n:21212229015 I'm assuming its genuine BMW tho which I have no problem with but if we can find one cheaper with the same quality I would be game for that too.

Vincent, here are a few more part numbers for you :)

E36/7 M-coupe
#1 TWIN MASS FLYWHEEL 21212229015 $859.32

E36 M3 with S50
#2 TWIN MASS FLYWHEEL 21212227820 $859.32

E36 M3 with S52
#3 TWIN MASS FLYWHEEL 21212229015 $859.32

Euro M3 S50B30
#4 TWIN MASS FLYWHEEL 21212229011 $859.32

Euro M3 S50B32
#5 TWIN MASS FLYWHEEL 21212229010 $859.32

The thing is.. I got a feeling that LUK's replacement is DMF037 for both #1, #2 and #3.. As in only the OE flywheel was machined down to 22lbs.. the LUK OEM replacements were all ~29lbs for all the S-engines.. The S52's is supposed to be 22lbs but if you order 21212229015 from say Pelican parts, they'll give you DMF037 which is the 29lb S50 flywheel :(

Not so sure about the Euro #4 and #5.. So are there any other manufacturers of OEM DM flywheels?
