Does anyone know if this si a good price? That's about the average price for having a shop do the work. But it changes from area to area depending on the shops labor rate. Good luck. awray0805 11-19-2007, 12:57 AM Thanks, do you know if this price should be for a new one or remanufacturered? Or are they all remanufacturered? ricks740 11-19-2007, 09:10 PM awray.. BMW Dealers do not fix transmissions - they only replace - my personal experience. My experience; 740 il my 1997 Trans failed all - would barely move car. Requested dealer to drain, clean, replace filter and replace with BMW speced trans fluild. NOTE: just drain, do not flush. Done at 155k jan 07, 167K now - no problems since. Also - may be able to rebuilt valve body. Swordsman 11-19-2007, 09:19 PM IowaLawM3 is parting out a 2000 750iL with a nearly new transmission. He's asking less than these prices, I believe, IF you really need one, that is. Or are they all remanufacturered? Nobody sells "NEW" transmissions they are ALL rebuilt no matter what the service writer at the dealrship tells you. and for most ZF transmissions the cost of rebuilding it or outright replacing it is usually pretty close to each other. so it's up to you as far as what repair is done. wuilman 11-26-2007, 02:15 AM awray.. Also - may be able to rebuilt valve body. I find this VERY, VERY, VERY unlikely. the only way this would have worked was if the transmission overheated and went into "limp-in" mode, and draining it out only temporarily solved the problem. Rebuilding the valve body doesn't work after the fact of the matter. Only if you catch it early enough. then you can prevent the rest of the transmission from burning up. |
