View Full Version : Anyone know this '72 tii?
What is it worth?
I have a '90 E30 352i but was thinking about another car. What do good condition tii's go for? Lots of stuff done to it. The guy wants $8000.00. Is that too much? It is over 400 miles from me so I have not seen it in person, no inside shots yet, I'm working on getting some.

fjord7302 11-17-2007, 09:40 PM Looks to be a pretty nice car. As always, any pics of the motor, undercarriage, and interior. Also, is that a dent on the L/F fender?
How does he describe the running condition? Any rust issues?
Post the vin and knowledgable guys like Keith or Andy may know some history on the car.

2many02s 11-17-2007, 10:04 PM I just bought a 72 tii that doesn't run, is rusty, and one of the earliest 72s around. There was that dual light tii on here a couple of weeks ago for 6-7k. My personal opinion is they are just going to be worth more. That being said, it will take some money to make em perfect. I wouldn't be surprised to see early tiis breaking the 20k+ barrier in the near future. I think it comes down to if it's what you want to spend money on. If it all checks out, I would say it's worth it. I can give a little perspective. I have a restored 76 automatic with a sunroof, all new rubber seals, runs great. I don't think I could get 2500 for it. Cost me about 8k to where it sits today. If it was an early tii with that much in it it would be easy to get 15 or more for it.

mrnvgtr 11-17-2007, 10:07 PM That is one of the nicest ones I've seen (in pictures). Just based off those two pictures alone, assuming its mechanical shape is just as good, I think $8k is a steal.
This is all the detail, yes that is rust near the light and the screws above the bumper...

I know this car fairly well as the seller is a local owner. I've not read his advertisements yet, so I will add these comments to whatever he's already stated.
About a month ago I personally adjusted all the timing and air/fuel mixture in this car. I drove it about 5 miles at that time, combination of highway and city driving with curves and braking tests - "my test track" - and it was a good test and passed those expectations. I'm not totally aware of what's been done to the car but the list here would validate that work.
I thought it was Gus at Pacific Fuel rebuilt the pump and injectors but the above says Wes Ingraham. OUCH that's expensive. It spent several months off the road awaiting that magic to be performed. Since then he's driven it continuously. It's not a garage queen, the seller enjoys driving it regularly. It's not his only vehicle.
Mechanically, that's all I've done - no in-depth compression checks or anything like that though. In my opinion - as a Tii experienced owner - the engine runs well and definitely performs well within Tii specs.
I never met the previous owner but he was a guy with plenty of dough. He only had it worked on at the best independent shop in town. That owner claimed to have spent some five figure sums to it in upgrades to it when he was selling it.
I believe this to be an example of a rolling restoration. Like all cars like this, everybody wants to put their upgrades or touches to the car. Not all those touches may suit everyone's tastes. I personally dislike the clear plastic covers over the H4 headlamps for example, but that comes off easy. I don't like the window tinting. I think the interior as I recall wasn't what I would have done, but that's me.
My take is you have to look at the sum of the parts and determine if you think the base car is something you would work from yourself to make it the car you want. The base price is certainly decent for a Tii of this vintage. To find one in the Midwest is not an easy thing, ask me how I know. The current owner is an enthusiast for sure and has had several other German performance cars before this one.

bluedevils 11-18-2007, 07:21 PM You are lucky, my testicles already gone!
I thank you all for the info... The rust is still an issue for me, not just on this car, but all 2002's I have E30 experience and they too can have rust, but nothing like a car from the 70's. Keith your Stella is gem! I looked over your web page and wish I had unlimited money!
I have a second contender a '75 2002 (not tii) only 50 miles from me. It has 130K, new tires, brakes, a/c., Says no rust (I'll see about that) Better condition on the inside. Big bumpers :shifty What was it with the colors form the 70's!?!
This one I can look at and drive. NOT a tii but about the same price.

2many02s 11-19-2007, 03:25 AM same price go with the tii. It's a roundie and will be worth more a lot sooner than a later car. That one is close and you can have a lot of fun driving it without the worry of driving a tii. I think the color is siennabraun.
