OK heres the information on what I've located:

1976 2002 Black with tan interior.
VIN 2740124
Odometer 37684 (I would expect that to be 137684 because the car has been in storage for some time).
4 speed
The car was running when it went into the garage.
Front and rear glass has been removed but is there and ok.
All exterior trim has been removed, but is supposedly with the car.
American bumpers are removed but there as well.
Stock steel wheels are on the car.
The body has had some work do on it but having owned another one of these
I don't see any rust that I wouldn't haved inspected. The worst spot I saw was in the spare tire well closest to the rear tire.
The dash only has 1 small crack (3/8") on the second divider in the colection area.

That's about all I got to see today because I ran out of time. Plan on getting the car out of the garage and over to the shop where I can really get a good look at it. I'll get some pictures posted as quickly as possible so we can beat it up. I'm pretty excited. I knew the car had been worked on (body), but I didn't recall the interior. I've always liked the black over tan color scheme.
I was not able to get the hood open due to things being on top of it so I can't tell you anything about the engine other than I would expect it to be stock.

If the car is a stock '76 with 4 speed tranny what else should I expect?

Well, I would say check the engine. take a battery and some starter fluid see it it will at least turn over. I'd be a sucker for a Black 02 for sure.

UPDATE on Black Beauty....
Well I changed out the electrical components for the ignition and changed the fuel lines. Charged the battery and she purrs like a kitten. After warming up there is no smoke. I'll change the oil next (yes I checked it before starting), and start to look over the rest of the car. The exterior will need to be finished and painted and the interior redone, but she seems very solid.....
The pressure plate had stuck to the fly wheel but broke free when we started out in second gear. It was raining here so we attempted to check for LSD. In the gravel it left two tracks so I'll have to clean the rear dif and see if it's marked. I was very pleasently suprized with the strength of the motor. It had been some time since I had riden in an 02 and it sure was fun...... This car is very stock with some of the smog equipment removed so I had no idea what to expect.

Norris, TN, I figured that was near Norris Lake. I used to go down there when my dad had a vacation home on the lake. Don't remember seeing any older BMW's down there, nor any newer ones for that matter. Do you get any waves or thumbs up since you got this one? Have fun with your 76 Schwarz. Consider driving it to Vintage at the Vineyard in May. It is held in Lewisville, NC (near Winston-Salem) late May each year. Also, Oktoberfest will be at Watkins Glen, NY in 2008. Beautiful and fun place for a huge car event. Good luck.

Denker,
I've lived in Norris for about 7 years now with the wife and kids. It's a great place and I actually live in the small hamlet of Norris. I grew up south of Maryville about 3 miles south of the 129/411 HWY junction. It seems so ironic now that I like fine BMW cars and grew up just miles from the Tail of the Dragon. Some years back I drove a 75 model 02 that had the heart and legs of a 73 tii under it. I've always wanted to get another 02 and now I have a project to work on..... Thanks for your comments.
