Okay gurus, I have a 74 model 2002. It appears to have a rpm limiting rotor, and wires set up. Since this is all new to me, any problem in changing to regular convention bosch rotor, wires, plugs, etc? One doesn't have to reset timing or anything correct? I assume the distributor would be the same. Would the car have come from the dealer with this rpm limiting set-up? Thanks for any help/comments.

The rotor is the rev limiting device, and there is no problem with changing to an older style non rev limiting rotor. I believe the non rev-limiting rotor for that year car is a bosch 04033, thats off the top of my head so let me pull out an old catalog and double check. I will repost if thats not right. gl

I noticed the plug wires are not conventional also. There is a double lead wire going into the coil also, and a plastic junction box attached to the valve cover with wire leeds?? Like I said, I am not familiar with this set up. Have owned old gm cars prior. Thanks for any help.

Thanks guys, I believe the distributor wires are original to the car. And according to the BMW 02 Restoration Guide, the wires I describe contain an extra leed to the distributor, and the whole set up was a diagnostic wire system used by bmw mechanics to just plug into with special system analizers. The author goes on to say, just replace the whole system with new wires period, and get rid of this set up. Thanks again.
