Hey Oklahomies...

My car got bumped in the parking lot (it's very minor, cosmetic damage) and I'm wanting to get it fixed. What's the best body shop around, in your opinion? I got an estimate at Bodyworks, but I don't really know anything about them.

Thanks in advance!

If it's just minor cosmetic, you can save a lot with
www.theautowizard.net

And from a previous post on antother site where I posted about this guy:

A friend referred me to The Auto Wizard (www.theautowizard.net) for some minor damage to my wife's Toyota Sequoia.(was getting it ready to sell) I had some heavy scratches on the front bumper, right front wheel flare and on the corner of the back bumper. A body shop quoted me appx $375 just to respray the front cover and fender flare, without doing the back bumper problem. The AutoWizard did all the damage for less than 1/2 that. He will come to you and do the work at your home or business or at a small shop he works out of pretty close to Gearhead Tech in Norman. In my case he did the work in my driveway while I was away at work. The blending was exceptional and the clearcoat blended so well I really couldn't tell where he started and stopped, even though I knew where the damage had been.

I was impressed enough I called him again just a few days ago. My wife' new car (2006 C230) had a license plate bracket that was screwed into the plastic bumper cover (6 screw holes) I wanted removed. 4 of the holes were right on a crease line of the bumper cover. Once again, he came to my house and did the work in my garage. And once again the blending was great (black car) and the price was cheap enough to be worth having done. After spraying the clearcoat in the morning, he came back later after it was thoroughly dry to wetsand and buff it out.
His website shows he also does stuff like repolishing glazed over headlight covers, wheel repair, and interior repair. I don't think he is into doing major bodywork but is perfect for minor repairs- the kind of things that body shops don't normally want to do and really charge too much for.

I have no connection to this guy and don't know him personally but I would recommend him to friends. I asked if he might be interested in doing some sort of demonstration at a future tech session (Oklahoma City/Norman area) and he said that would be OK.
If you are interested you can contact him at that website or 664-6991."

FYI: BimmerEse (Dan) has seen the blend job the guy did with the front of the Benz in person. Some painters have the 'gift' of blending well and some don't. This guy has the gift.

Yeah, if you catch the name or have any idea of the cross street, that would be great!

I also think I might check out the "wizard" guy after I get my insurance to appraise the damage. I decided that going to one of the shops that is pre-approved by my insurance company is probably a bad idea, since then I'd never see a check.

i drove by today

PRECISION AUTO BODY off shileds blvd

405-634-4338. 6505 S Shields Blvd Oklahoma City, OK 73149

again i have never had work done by them but they always have a large amount of highend autos that they are working on outside their shop

bimmer and benz i hear is good as well. i got a quote from them and the shop is very small and seems like they would take awhile. i think dan had his 330 worked on there.

I would highly recommend GW&Son on memorial and santa fe. they are kind of expensive but they to amazing work. my moms 528 was repainted there and its a perfect paint job. they also chaperoned her to work when she had to take her car in.

Thank you for all of the advice, everyone! I think I am going to talk to my insurance company and check out Bimmers & Benz. If that doesn't work out, I'll look into GW, because I think they're a select service provider for my insurance anyhow.

make sure to tell them if any parts have to be replaced to use "genuine BMW" parts, not aftermarket parts. ALOT of insurance companies prefer for bodyshops to use aftermarket parts to fix cars to save on cost, but they never fit right, a shop tried to do that with my hood. I called my insurance and they sent the rest of the money to get the oem part.

I took my car to Bimmers and Benz for an estimate the other day. Their estimate was a full $400 more than the estimate I was given by the "Select Service" shop suggested by my insurance company. I faxed the estimate to the insurance people and am awaiting a response. I guess we'll see what happens...

I also need to get my nose panel repainted (which is a totally different issue and has nothing to do with the hit and run damage). When I bought my M3 last spring, it didn't appear to have any rock chips at all, but after a few washes, the touch-up paint the PO had apparently used started flaking off and now the nose panel has hideous, gigantic rock chips on it. Strangely, this is only on the nosepanel. The hood has little pinprick chips, but i'm not about to start worrying about that (yet).

All of the body shops seem to agree that the nose panel needs to be removed, completely stripped, and then repainted. I have received estimates of anywhere from $250 to $425 for this job. Ugh. Perhaps after that, I'll invest in one of those stonguard clear bras so that I won't ever have to deal with this again.

+1 for The Auto Wizard (aka Tim). He came by and did some excellent paint work on some rock chip damage on one of my cars. He is super nice and didn't even mind me hanging around watching the process. HIGHLY recommended.

Tim Gibson (The Auto Wizard) also color-keyed my side mirrors. I really like the way they turned out and painting over the faded black portions really updated the car in my opinion.

let's revive this thread... I took my car to GW and Son to have the front quarter panel replaced and the front bumper repainted. I'll tell you guys how it goes. I'm not paying for it so that's good. The bill was $1400! I sorta feel sorry for the person who hit me... But nobody hits my baby. Ever
