How's it goin man. Did you sell your Dinan M3? I don't see it under your Cars:

:confused

Anyone want to help me find an S52? I just barely lost a bid on a really low mileage one about a week ago. I've also considered buying a totaled M3 but I'm not sure how to go about finding one. The longer I wait the more I think about the S50B32.....

So my front left wheel is bent and it shakes the car from 60-70mph. I'm going to have to get rid of the set :mad for next summer because I don't want to drive on a bent wheel. So I'll have to use my winter wheels until I get new ones.

Does anyone know if it's possible to straighten out the wheel? I love them and I don't want to get rid of them. Or else is there somewhere I can buy a single wheel? If it helps, its an 18" Moda R6 tire size 225/40.

Or else is there any set of 17" or 18" you know of that can be sold for under $500?

Brandjas18

You can get the wheel fixed. There was a post about powder coating in the MN section I think and there was a link to a semi local shop that will straighten and refinish wheels. Check the past MN thread and search Powdercoat. I hope this helps.

Yah I sold it a couple weeks ago. I might get another E36 next spring, or possibly another MR2, maybe a 944 turbo. Hehehe, not sure yet.

Good luck with your wheel deal. :)

So I called around a few places and found this: Precision Wheel Service 952-881-3010 10921 Excelsior Blvd Hopkins, MN $140 flat rate per wheel, they make sure every wheels is true and straight as well as powdercoat them. For a grand total of $560. Does this sound like a good deal? I'm assuming they do good work at that price, but has anyone had any experience with them?

When I worked for Maserati, we sent some wheels to them and they did a fantastic job. They did what they promised without damaging the wheels. I think we sent them wheels off a Porsche.

Ugghhhh I put my "winter wheels" on today (the stock Style 30 wheels) . I use quotes because they aren't winter tires, they're all-season tires. And guess what? I'm sliding in what little snow we have right now.

My DSC is going crazy due to slippage, and my ABS is out of control. I was going ~20 mph and started braking, then the ABS started yelling "**** YOU KYLE I'M GONNA CRASH" at me through the brake pedal. I slid a little past the stop sign...

:(This is gonna be a looooong winter... It's illegal to use tire chains isnt it...

Anybody got old winter tires that'll fit 7x16 225/50R16? I'm bumming about this pretty bad... Maybe I'll find some up in the tire room at Motorwerks and abscond with them to my garage:shifty:devillook to be mounted ASAP

Dude, when I drove my E36 328IS for one winter, I took the ABS and traction control fuses out totally. It was just like you had said, ABS would freak out and the DSC light would go stupid. You will like it much better with that shit disabled. I realize the traction control is there for a purpose, but in the E36 I didn't find it to help much in the snow.

On the "put the winter tires on" note, I threw my steelies and Nokian winter tires on my E30 today. The shit is BALLAHHHH! The ride good too hahaha. Good luck with your car mang. :D

The M3 is going to be driven through the winter, and then from there I don't know. I'll probably hit 60k miles this week, so at some point I'll have to get the Inspection II done over at JB Eurotech.

I'm at the point where I need to make a decision on what I'm going to do with the M3. I'm either going to stop modding and trade it in on a newer car, or else I'm going to keep modding and get a utility and winter vehicle. Ideally I'd like to keep the M3 and get a new Tahoe or Silverado, but the allure of an AWD BMW is pretty high. Can't decide what to do. I have pretty good positive equity in the M3 and could have it paid off by the end of next year. The extended warranty has 15k miles left. I don't know if I want to keep the car beyond that...

If I keep the M3 I'll pay it off and then I'll be leasing a Silverado, E91 328xi Touring, or X3 Sport Package.
If I trade the M3 in, it'll be for a 335xi coupe or 550i sport package (new M3 sedan would be awesome, but no way I'll be able to get one anytime soon).

Before the Bimmer I had a 2002 Suburban Z71 with 17" chrome American Racing wheels. I loved that truck and had some serious fun with it. Problem was that it was a gas hog. I want a truck so I can start doing some serious ice fishing again. I figure that if I were to get a 328xi touring, I could fit a Fish Trap inside or on top on the rack and just go. The X3 and Silverado are both good for that, but the Silverado would allow me to trailer stuff (Like the M).

Dunno. I guess as long as the M3 doesn't meet and untimely demise, I'll have some time to figure it out. I'd hate for something to happen to my M3 and be forced to make a purchase.

If I'm going to drop $60k for an SUV, I'd either want to get a Tahoe or Suburban. They have tons more room and drive trains that are designed to tow lots of weight. I like the look of the new E70 X5 4.8, but to be honest, the only X5 I'd buy would be the old 4.6is (and supercharge that bad boy ).
Short of that, I'll take a truck or SUV that can take the beating I'll give it. I've broken a Jeep Grand Cherokee and several Rovers in my day, so needless to say I'd need something built like a rock. :D

But still toying with the idea. If I move a bit closer to work, I'll probably pull the trigger on something. 70 miles round-trip sucks on gas and wear-and-tear.

As much love as I have for my M3...it's got nothing on my Denali gas hog when it comes to going fishing, camping in the middle of no where, towing the trailer/car, enough room for 8, plenty of room inside to move around, and never being worried about getting stuck in snow. I put the all-terrains on last week so she ready for the winter months.

True, a Burb would be nice. They've got the hybrid Tahoes coming soon I think, that'd be better on the gas (obviously) since that seems to be an issue. I could see you driving a Ram 2500 as well, even though you seem to be set on Chevy's. Good luck anyways.

On a seperate note, I was at a friends house 30 mins ago and we went back upstairs when I was leaving, and the front door was about a foot and a half open. We immediately figured somebody came in so we both got bats and walked around but found nothing. Now I'm scared to let my car sit out because there have been break ins to cars on my street during the summer....Edina, its a tough neighborhood:D

Words cannot express how much I loathe Chrysler. My step dad has had a new dodge every three years since 1997. Transmission, brake, and ECU problems have always been abound.
With my Suburban, I owned that thing for 2 years and the only thing that ever went wrong with it was a fuse went out. As for the new Tahoes, they have Displacement On Demand allowing them to get 20-22mpg on the highway. That's pretty damn good for a full-size SUV. Same with the Silverados.

But, like I said, I need a bigger house and garage that is much closer to my work before I even thing about getting involved with another car.

the newer dodge transmissions are much better- but i still don't know why you would buy one.

I have a 1998 gmc suburban that i drive most of the winter and for camping type stuff- it has over 320k on it and still basically running strong (on stock tranny and bottom end too)/ my family has owned it since 97.

I also just picked up my wrx this fall- car cost me $9800 (2002 already with coilovers, 18s, and some cosmetic stuff) and i put about $2600 into getting it running as i wanted (which means into the mid 12s). For that kind of $$$ and awd it's pretty compelling to get a winter beater, eh?

My parents have two Jeep Grand Cherokees (1995 4.0L I6, 2005 3.7L V6) and they are both running strong. I haven't heard of the 05' having any issues that were more than oil changes. i have not heard of the same issues with late model vehicles recently at all

the earlier than 2002? or whatever grand cherokees (with the v8s) were also particularly effected by these issues- as were all chrysler products in general with v8s (viper aside)

you'll notice that after these transmission issues were alleviated by stealing merc technology dodge/chrysler immediately began coming out with much higher hp vehicles... the srt program was basically "recycle late 90s benz technology program"

For the record, I consider the Jeep 4.0L I6 to be one of the greatest engines ever built. The 3.7L V6 is a disgrace and waste of torque.

stay away from dodge trucks...ive heard so many horror stories about their shitty transmissions...a buddy of mine had THREE trannys repaced under warranty!!......Andy..ive got a 01 GMC Sierra and the thing is a beast...ive had her in some rediculous mud and some really rough trails....i got her new and ive put 82,000 on her so far and i honestly have never ever had any problems with anything drivetrain or otherwise...they truly are built to take a serious beating!!....its just a 1500 with the 5.3L but ive towed a 27 ft. enclosed trailer all the way to Utah no prob.......from what ive seen in the market lately you can pick up a really nice example of an 01-04 Sierra for about 12K.....and it'll take anything you can throw at it.....there is no way of getting around the gas milage....if you want towing power...your gonna pay for gas.

True. One of my friends just traded in his 03 or 04 dodge 2500 because the tranny was slipping big time. My '99 silverado is still running strong at 140K and it is only the 5.3 with the 4L60E tranny. I just pulled 6000 lbs with it at 70 mph across the state on sunday. Nothing like the 2500 6.0 4l80E but still ok for me. The tranny is shifting not as smooth as new now though (will do a filter/fluid change and see) but the engine runs like new. There is no slipping at all it just doesn't shift as smoothly as a newer one. It was also recently hit pretty hard and only cosmetic damage occurred. They are pretty durable.

Didn't you guys get like 20ft of snow last year in two weeks???

For the record, I consider the Jeep 4.0L I6 to be one of the greatest engines ever built. The 3.7L V6 is a disgrace and waste of torque.
That being said, my mom's had Jeeps and they've all been pretty decent. My step-dad's dodges have been the problem.

I didnt live here when denver got all that snow, but i was visiting my brother, and it was crazy, because denver wasnt used to that much snow. all the snow around here gets dropped in the mountains usually.
We got i little dusting this morning, but it is still sweatshirt weather.

And yes the jeep 4.0l six is an absolutely bulletproof engine. which is why i am buying one. prolly picking it up tonight. but back in 1988 jeep was still going from AMC to chrysler, which made them even better, cause crysler sucks at everything. i drove a 1998 GC for a year, and the tranny always had problems. it had just been rebuilt before i got it too, and it never shifted right, and the 4x4 almost never worked, and grinded when taking it out.

I got a 07 4Runner this summer with the 4.0 V-6. This thing is great!!!!!

I get 20-22 on the highway 17-19 city and it tows the Coupe on an open trailer quite well. I trailered out to Mid Ohio earlier this year. Never an issue with the V-6. This winter I am going to add the V-8 tranny cooler just for some added insurance.

My dad put the Tranny cooler on his 99 Silverado 1500 w/ the 4.8L V8. We towed a 6,000lb trailer to Yellowstone with it from Rochester, MN. It was sucking a bit in the mountains, but it kept going. Great great truck. For normal trucks, I consider Chevy the best. For heavy duties, I love Ford Super Duties (they have a TON more room in the second row. Chevy needs to work on their second-row seating).

For me, if I can't tow at least 8,000lbs with the truck, I won't buy it. SUVs are different, but for a truck, it's gotta be a V8 and it's gotta have beef.

Are you talking about crew cabs or extended cabs? Both?

I do like the Mega cab on the dodges. It would be nice if someone else offered it but it may be too low production volume to be noticed by the executives there? I wonder if other manufacturers will follow suit?

I'm talking about the crew cab. Chevy crew cabs are tiny when you compare them to the Ford Super Duties. A good friend of mine ( "Jarick" on E46fanatics.com and Jarick w/ DTM Theory) has a family member with a 2006 Ford F350 Super Duty King Ranch 7.3L. !!!!!!!!!!

They're taking video to loading into Google Street (I think it's called). What it does is basically you can type in where your want to start/finish and you get an overhead map as well as the route as you would see it on the ground. San Fransisco, Dallas, New York and other major city's already are in the database. I had no idea Minneapolis was on the list as being an important city.

Cool to know!

(Or it's the Iluminati:shifty)

Didn't bmw used to own RR? I think I heard BMW lost billions when they sold Rover.

Yeah, BMW owned LR for a while and I think the RR still uses a BMW 4.4 instead of a Ford V8 now. And, yes, I too think I heard they lost a ton of money when they sold LR to Ford. IDK what issues LR's are prone to specifically, but all I know is that they have many issues. Hopefully Ford can inject some quality into them before they sell LR/Jag to that Middle Eastern (or is it Asian? Indian maybe?) firm. After that happens, you can pretty much say goodbye to their "good" build quality they have now...

I saw a broken down SUV on 100 S a few days ago, and as I get closer I say "Oh, of course its a Discovery" without thinking twice.

It's not Google, local.live.com is a Microsoft service. But you have the concept right.

Google is using Beetles to "crawl" the streets:

They did. BMW got rid of Land Rover because it was a nightmare money-pit. They introduced their 4.4 V8 into the vehicle and their automatic tranny among other features, but they just could not get the damn things to be reliable. If it had been organic BMW, I'm sure it would have been different. They just essentially "inherited" the problems and had to try to fix them. It'd be like becoming the new president of Chechnya and trying to fix the country. BMW lost a ton selling LR, but Ford lost some selling Aston Martin so maybe BMW gets the last laugh...:D

Isn't it a firm in Dubai/UAE that's buying the British car companies up?

this is why i have to work from home(rwd ftl in the winter)

It's nice to work from home on snowy days and avoid all the clueless and afraid people on the streets.

Personally, I love to go out for a drive on snowy days with my BMW (91 318is). With snow tires my RWD car is just fine and fun. I don't get stuck and don't run into many problems.
I do have to pay attention, I do have to be careful, I do have to watch my mirrors and plan ahead much more than in the dry.
But the BMWs are so well balanced that with snow tires they handle just fine in the snow.

A few years back, after I moved to MN, I learned a lot about how to drive in the snow thanks to the Summer and Winter Car Control Clinics from the BMW Car Club. I liked it so much, that I got very involved with the club in the following years.

And now... for the shameless plug... :redspot we have a Winter Driving School on January 20 at DCTC in Rosemount. Check the club's website for information: http://northstarbmw.org/
ALL cars and beaters are accepted for this event. If you drive it in the Winter you should drive it at the school.

We had this gutted E30 M3 come through on Saturday, I don't know why. But Tony Stoy (a tech, Rimblas knows who I'm talking about) is working on it. It was still on his lift last night when I was at work so there must be some major work going down on it.

But it was pretty sick. He drove it in from who knows where on track tires. Remember, this was Saturday with the snowstorm. I was talking to him and asked how it got it in, and he said "very carefully". I think one of the service drive people said something regarding how he bought it in Brazil or something, I can't remember. Notice the front right wheel is flat, or at least very low...IDK why. I highly doubt this is of any interest to anyone here, but I'm gonna put it out there anyways.

A guy I graduated with (Edina class of 07') is former Vikings head coach Mike Tice's son, Nate Tice. He was an ungodly QB for the Hornets and was some college draft pick last year (or was it this year?). Anyways, I heard from a friend:

"he is in NCAA Football 08. He's UCF QB #2, rated at 65 overall."

IDK what most of that means, but I understand "NCAA", "QB", and "football" so I deduced that he meant the game.

In short, a guy I graduated with is in a football game. Which is neat I guess.

Peter Hasslequist (former GM at Motorwerks) is a good friend of Carl Pohlad and for over a year now they have been working to buy the BMW franchise from Sears. Well, as of two weeks ago, Peter resigned as GM at Motorwerks. Pohlad backed the purchase financially for Peter. So I assume they will move the BMW half to another location.

I haven't hear anything about the used/new lots being seperate, though.

And Rodger Penske called the service manager (named Scott) at Motorwerks personally to remind him that he has a no-compete clause in his contract. Scott is a good friend of Peter's and Penske doesn't want him to leave to work for Peter.

FYI, Roger Penske is the owner of PEnske Automotive (majority shareholder at ~40%), formerly known as United Auto Group which owns Motorwerks. UAG (PA) is a Fortune 500 company and the second largest automotive dealership company worldwide. Yeah, I probably sound like Wikipedia cuz I'm just that smart:D

So after Peter left (he still owns Bloominton Lincoln Mercury), Penske sent in one of his own guys (a former engineer apparently) to run the show. This guy lives in MD and is GM for two dealerships there, as well as one in DC(?), and Motorwerks. So he flies in every week to run Motorwerks...somehow it all works. Even though you'd expect Penske to elect somebody within the management to run it while he's gone.

Peter acted as a buffer between corporate PA and us, now we'll see what happens now that Penske has a direct link to every employee of Motorwerks. We'll see how things transition... I already know this new GM is one of Penske's yes-men, so I'm thinking the fat is gonna get trimmed real soon:paranoid:

Was reading the Minn/St. Paul Business Journal at work today,
the Dec 7th issue. The cover said that the Pohlads were going to be
buying the Sears BMW dealership. I can not find it on their website,
but it mentioned it being the one on Rockford in Plymouth. I guess Sears
spilt the MB/BMW lot into two seperate ones? Didnt know that there was
a lot on in Plymouth.

I dont know enough about the $ dealings to comment.
However, as someone who is employeed by the construction manager
on the project in pre-con, I only wish the public could set in the meetings
between the architect of the ballpark and the owners reps/team.
Architects do not seem to want to design for the owners anymore,
but want to keep to their grand and great vision. They keep increasing
the finishes in public and premium spaces even after the owners tell
them no. Oh but it looks more pleasing...Then the complain when the
project is $20million over. We give them ideas on how to get back
to the budget and they say they will incorporate those savings into
the new drawings set. Do they? They pick a few sure, but then add
other crap. Then we as construction managers are stuck between
the architects and the twins.

Yeah I completely agree with you. It's kinda funny actually, a friend of mine worked in construction over the summer with his older brother (who is full time for w/e company...it's got a short name and is based just outside the metro area) and his dad is an architect. Although I doubt anything like that ever came up.

As for my job, I doubt it will be risked because I'm going to full time after the new year and into the summer. in Fall 08', still full time (hours moved back) and school full time. So my job should be secure.

Anyone have any winter tires--preferably used? Ones to fit stock bottle-caps for the E36--205/60R15s if I can remember correctly.

I figured I should ask in this section because most people selling tires are unwilling to ship them.

Hey gang, here's my introduction. My wife and I just relocated from Chicago two weeks ago and we're temporarily living with her sister's family in Woodbury. We're going to build a house in Little Canada (I'm already planning the garage for a lift and a lot of work space). I don't begin my job for two weeks so I'm hanging out doing nothing during the day. Plenty of time to surf the car message boards. :D

Cars:
My wife has a 2006 X3 3.0 with the sport package, blk/blk. It's running X5 wheels with Michelin snow tires right now.

My daily driver is a 1993 525i Touring with a lot of work done to it. It has the entire drivetrain from a rusty, Minnesota 1991 535i 5spd beater swapped in. Limited slip rear end, UUC short-shift, Alpina cam, Schnitzer chip, H&R springs with self-leveling, M5 Touring rear swaybar, 850ci big brakes and M5 rears, Hella euro smoked headlights with HIDs, that's about it. Here's a pic with summer tires:

My garage queen project car is a 1980 E12 M535i. It's in storage right now at my mother-in-law's place in St. Croix Falls. Here's a directory with a ton of pictures of it:

Flip...great E12 and E34. Classics FTMFW.

Speaking of classics (great transition I know), we just got a MINT 1988 DINAN M6 in. It's sitting on the first floor. I sat in it and the gearbox is amazing, not sloppy at all like a 20 should feel like. The interior is perfect and the exterior has only one small spot of rust, apart from that, it's flawless. The engine bay is VERY clean, and the engine has individual throttle bodies (IDK if all M6's had them though). They want $19k for it.

Just a little fun fact, I was driving on 494 west from Minnetonka. I was in the left lane going about 70, and a pair of Angel Eyes came up behind me, so I thought "Oh cool! E39!". He was driving fast and I sped up, then I changed lanes because I was obviously slowing him down.

So he passes me and turns out, it's an E39 M5. Med-silver and the tails appeared to be smoked (it was night so I might be wrong). Anyways it was obvious he wanted to play, so I get back behind him and floor it behind him.

We hit a stretch of clear traffic and he goes. Thing is, either he was in 6th gear already or he wasn't giving it full gas, or else I seriously underestimated my car's pulling ability, but as we were going from about 80-110, I stayed with him. Of course he was pulling away, but much slower than I though would be the case for an M5 against a 328is.

I had missed the exit to 100N because I still wanted to follow him (I was going home back in Edina). So I get off at France Ave and head north. After about 2 stoplights, I was going about 50 on France (limit is 40, so not unreasonable I guess) and the next light turned yellow. The car next to me was going about as fast and he gunned it. Not to be made a fool, I gun it as well. It pulled pretty hard on me. I looked and turned out, it was a black B7 RS4 sedan.

Needless to say, I was pretty much going nuts over what I had just done in the last 3 mins. Then I went and picked up a couple friends and we saw I Am Legend (pretty decent movie, but the CGI sucked hard).

It was a good night:D

M5's pull like no tomorrow. BMW V8's are absolutely insane. The 4.4L and 4.8L both pull hard, and the 5.0L is even more of a monster. If you were almost staying with him, he probably wasn't trying or just didn't know how to drive his car.

Curse you MN snow!!

My wife got in a fender bender this afternoon in my car. Luckily no was hurt and the kids were not with her. Got hit in the drivers front corner
as someone was coming around a corner and they kept going straight and
could not turn.

Crap... have no idea what the insurance company will do.
Hood is crumplied, front left fender is bent down on the tire, head light
busted. When I got there I didnt see any fluids in the snow, so hopefully
the radiator and engine stuff is still okay. It was still running fine when my wife pulled into the Hilton Garden Inn parking lot in Maple Grove.

I'll go sunday and try and get some pictures.
Have no idea if they will try and repair it or just total it.

Better start looking for another car ....:mad

I'm so frustrated with MN drivers today. I'm driving to work and there are people TAILGATING me. Not just following too close for conditions, they are tailgating by warm-sunny-summer-day standards. Then I get to work and I see idiots driving around like idiots all night long. 4x4s in the ditch, cars trying to drive through snowbanks, people trying to stop on a dime while driving on glare ice... :mad

And for the record, stay away from 169 in Shakopee. There's a car going off the road every 20 minutes. LITERALLY every 20 minutes.

Sorry, ///end rant. :shifty

Drive safe, people! :)

Yeah this weather is nuts. Luckily I haven't had to drive at all over the weekend except to get to and from work on Saturday. I don't plan on driving until they plow my street. My car is basically a snowplow right now:( At least my dad let me park in the garage (single car garage since the house was built in the early 50's). If it snows anymore, I wouldn't even be able to get out of the driveway, luckily I have 2 Grand Cherokees to make a path for my car. The snow has stooped falling which is a good thing. At least it'll be a white Christmas for once!

2disturbed, that sucks a ton. Which car was it? Either way, sorry to hear it. But look on the upside, this might be a chance to upgrade!

Stay out of the ditch and have a safe Christmas everyone!:santa

Kmoney- you work at Motorwerks right? I'm gonna give the parts department a call this week. hopefully I can find a place that carries all these parts....I don't feel like ordering them as I've had some backorder items recently. Damn waterpump of all things on backorder. :mad I've had good luck with Sears though.

I do. If there's something you need let me know and we can set up something. FYI, I just got Jason (Brandjas) a thermostat and fender lining with my discount last week. So I don't want to abuse my discount and risk losing it by getting people all sorts of parts. But since you have a 95' M3 as well, I can still probs use the same cover story as I did for Jason:devillook

Sean- Hey sucks to hear about your car, but I'm sure you'll get if it fixed or a find a good replacement for it. BTW, that looks very familiar to my '96 328is after a 79 yr old lady ran a red. Your damage doesn't look quite as bad, I would expect that to be around $3000 damage.

Mine was $5000 (All paid for by her insurance company)

Cool. No worries about the discount if you can't do it. I'm more concerned about finding all of the parts, I'm just not sure if dealers carry what I'm looking for. I have a feeling I will be going through a few places. I'll PM you though.

Went tonight to get my poor car back in her garage :D
With my wifes help and a 3 foot long 2x4 I was able to
move some of the sheet metal off of the wheel so it didnt rub.
Tried to pop the hood, but no luck.
The drive back home was loud with the plastic fender liner
rubbing and part of the bumper cover dragging on the ground.
Feel better with it back home.

Maybe I can convince the insurance company my 'brake light circuit' and
non working taillight are all part of the accident!! :D

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Be safe if you are traveling out there!

Yeah, call up Motorwerks and Sears, etc. and see what parts they have in stock. Then let me know what Motorwerks has that you need, and I'll see what I can do.

Good to see yours got repaired.
I learned today that the other insurance company is taking 100% responsibility for the accident. They said they are going to send someone out either this week or next. Seeing your damage and that they repaired it, gives me hope that they will try and repair it.

Does anyone know where I can get my S52 exhaust manifold headers welded for cheap? I just need the 2 air ports welded shut. The place I called would charge me $85. That sounds pretty high from what I've heard.

Kmoney- Thanks for the offer but I ended up ordering online from PelicanParts. They actually had everything....should be coming tomorrow.

The insurance appraisor for our carrier came this afternoon to look
at the car. They decided to total it at $6500.
He was unable to open the hood even with some prying.
His estimate for repairs was upwards of $5000 with out taking
into account any mechanical costs.
He spent about three hours total.
I got some money added back in for lower than average miles, good
interior condition and paint, tint, (nothing extra for the bfc.com sticker :()
and teh best part - excellent condition of my winter tires!

Trying to figure out if I should buy it back and maybe try and sell it for parts. It would cost me my deductible of $500 and what ever the salvage
value(i believe) my insurance comp could get from it.

So.. if anyone would have an interest in a 95 325i (auto) with 120,000 miles
for what ever it would cost me to 'buy it back' let me know.
I would prefer to just sell as a whole entity and not part it out, unless
there are some things anyone locally could use.

Hey guys I'm from the south metro (shakopee area) and I need to have a clutch install done. I'm REALLY not psyc'd about paying motorwerks like $1500 in labor + their overpriced parts to get it performed. Is there any alternative decent mechanic in our area?

I really would hate to have my tranny destroyed at tires plus to save a buck.
Thanks for the info guys!

Check out JB Eurotech in New Brighton. They're a dedicated Euro/BMW shop and they're cheaper than a dealership. Great customer service.

One of my coworkers is in the market for a used car. Over lunch, we went to a dealership to test drive a used 1999 BMW 5 series. The car had 150,000 miles on it. The sales guy bought the car around and said, "don't shut it off, the battery was dead and we had to jump start it." We said ok. Cosmetically, the car was a mess. It had been keyed on the doors and was missing trim pieces. What made it really bad was the keyed paint was touched up with a paint brush. We got in and drove off. We noticed the following:

Warning lights for ABS and Stability Control plus the speedometer wasn't working.

The suspension clunked on every bump and crack. My friend said it pulled to the left.

We got the car on 394 and I noticed the heater not working and the tempurature gauge rising to the red zone. The check engine light and the engine overheat light came on as well. Steam poured from the back of the car. I pictured Dennis Weaver in the move "Duel" pleading for his Valiant to make the summit. My friend exited the freeway and we stopped in a parking lot. We couldn't get the hood open. We called the dealer and asked for a tow. The dealer said, "Try to bring it back, if it stops running, we will send out a tow." Now we are on our lunch break so we didn't have much time to wait for a tow truck. Luckily, we weren't too far away but I didn't relish the idea driving a terminally overheating car.

We nursed the car back to the dealership with me yelling, "c'mon car!" It made it. We dropped it off and complained about its condition to the salesman. His reply? "We will give you a discount." We left.

This car is rolling heartbreak for the next owner. That engine was cooked before we even got ahold of it and the car was not maintained by its previous owners which as we know BMWs aren't very forgiving of.

I'm surprised a dealer would let such a car be available for test drives, let alone for sale. Needless to say it made for an exciting lunch break and shows what happens to a BMW when you neglect it.

Sears BMW/Mercedes in Minnetonka, MN. I have had my car there for service and have been pleased but this experience is was really frightening. I know the car had some miles on it and I wouldn't expect it to be perfect but you would think they would ensure that it is safe to operate before letting a customer take it out for a spin. My friend still wants to buy a used BMW but I doubt he will go back to Sears.

I'm also leary about taking my car back there for service if the same folks inspect their used cars.
