Aaarrrrghhhh what a day. I wake up at noon (great so far) and call the guy who is gonna buy my Modas. He doesn't respond (still hasn't), so I go the bank and get some cash for my little trip out to Ohio tonight. I walk out to my car to find the nose panel caved in. I get really pissed because there's no way I got screwed over again by getting hit and not being left a note. Turns out my mom probs hit our 05' Grand Cherokee with it this morning.

Then I find an oil leak that I end up fixing.

Then I'm driving it to test, and hear a clicking noise. Either a spring or a lifter is going bad or something, but it's defs not normal.

Then another guy comes out to look at the wheels, and he doesn't give me an answer on them. But he seemed like a nice guy, and I hope he ends up buying them. But I won't know until Sunday.

Then I still have to pack, because 24 hours in a car will get boring eventually.

Now I have work, and I can't post the pics yet. So I'll do that Sat. afternoon or Sunday.

:mad = me right now

Apart from that, I'm having a great day!

Nice Alpine man. Good to see some members up in Duluth. I love it up der.

On my way to sears BMW today, I saw about 15 BMW's. Mostly E90's, a couple nice E92's. I'm glad I don't live in that area, I could see myself getting sick of seeing E90's, not the coupes though :)

I got back from Ohio this morning at 3 am, 24 hours of driving isn't real fun. Minnesota: Brief Wisconsin: Boring/bearable Illinois: Good, esepcially in Chicago Indiana: Smells, I'm convinced that there is only farms and industry there because that's all I saw going through it Ohio: Boring boring boring. There really is nothing to do in Ohio except pack up and get the fuck out. Then I had to do the same on the way back. But it's worth it, because the car is a 1997 Arctic Silver M3 and looks great. No pics yet.

I hope so, it already has a CAI and aftermarket catback.

After work on Saturday we threw his car on a lift and checked out the underside. It has new sway bar links, and some sort of springs (we can't tell yet because they were too dirty). He noticed a line had been cut. This line is like one of those metal enclosed brake lines, I forgot the specific name, but it's not for the brakes because they obviously work. So we can't figure out what it was for.

The car does have a bad diff, but he's getting a new one soon.

As for mods, he'll get in tinted to 35% first. Then after that...I have no idea.

Brandjas18

I saw the car mentioned above last night. It was pretty dirty but looked to be in nice shape over all. The interior needs a little bit of love and the exterior needed a wash, but its a nice car thats for sure. In talking to Max it sounds as if the car may have had NOS which if used properly or infrequently is okay, if it was used a lot and abused this could be an issue. The catback (not sure type) sounded nice when he drove away from picking up the free parts. I would suggest not tinting the windows....but thats just my opinion.

Next step a winter photo shoot. We can wash in my heated garage and then find a cool location in the city. If anyone is interested let me know.

I also just picked up my wrx this fall- car cost me $9800 (2002 already with coilovers, 18s, and some cosmetic stuff) and i put about $2600 into getting it running as i wanted (which means into the mid 12s). For that kind of $$$ and awd it's pretty compelling to get a winter beater, eh?

Call for help here guys...

So my M has been garaged all winter in an underground relatively heated parking garage, and short of starting her up every couple of weeks, washing her in the garage, and driving around the garage she hasn't been driven at all in two months.

Tonight, I went out to fire her up for our fortnightly "let me know you still love me" rendezvous (and to make sure she's still there) but before doing that I always check the fluid levels and the floor beneath. Tonight she was lower on oil than she was on the last checkup, and there is a small puddle of fluid on the floor beneath the Vanos.

Please, if you have time take a look at the photos I've posted outlining what I'm seeing and let me know what you think is going on here. If after viewing the photos you think it looks like a symptom that rhymes with "flown lead basket" I'd rather you not tell me and just drill a hole through my wallet and hack my bank account instead :( :( :(

I can't imagine it's a head gasket because you haven't put stress on it. And since the garage is heated, it's not like its having extreme temperature changes.

As for the oil, check the gasket around the oil filter housing. Because if it's not tightened correctly, oil can leak from it. The same thing happened to me and I thought I was fux0rd but it just turned out to be the gasket. Easy fix for that.

Of course like I said earlier, if you can bring it to Motorwerks somehow feel free and we can throw it up on a lift.

Good luck!

Looks like the valve cover gasket is leaking. You can clean the area with degreser and apply baby powder under the hood the fresh oil will wash away the abay powder showing you the source of your leak.

Seems like a lot of oil from just a valve cover? Maybe not.

Anyways, what does Motorwerks have for car lifts? JBeuro? Does anyone know how well the 2 post Rotary asymmetric lifts work on the bmw's? I think i heard a Lexus/bmw dealer used them so hopefully the arms clear without raising the car a little. I just picked up a used Rotary SPOA9 (9000 lb) from an auction at Brookdale Luther. Looks good and has OSHA inspection records. Can't wait to insall and tear further into more cars. I'm a serious DIY-er.

Yeah, I figured I'd suggest it because it could be a source of oil. But I'm no tech, so I can't say with any sort of certainty what happened to Brandon's M3.

IDK what kind of lifts Motorwerks uses, they are hydraulic from what I remember, and lower into the ground. So there's no posts up in the air. If you get what I mean.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc163/kmoney9999/1108071828.jpg

Look behind Alex's car, and theres a tech working on a Mini. From what you can see, that's the kind of lifts Motorwerks has. This isn't the best pic I have of them, but then again I have never taken a pic of of the lifts specifically.

As you all know we are heading for a cold snap this weekend. The BMWCCA Northstar chapter is holding a winter driving school at Dakota County Technical college for adult drivers on Sunday. I participated in the event last year and learned alot, met some really great people and had fun.

I'm looking forward to this year's event but am a little concerned (perhaps worrying too much) about the impact of attending the driving school during such cold weather.

I'm planning to ensure my tire pressures are up, coolant and oil are at acceptable levels etc. but am wondering what else I should do to prepare or if I shouldn't worry about it at all being that I am commuting to work in this weather and the car doesn't seem to mind it at all. In fact it has been starting reliably and working well.

What do you "seasoned" BMW owners think?

Wear warm clothes and pack gloves, hat and boots (but wear more comfortable shoes for driving) and drink plenty of water. I wouldn't worry about the car - it'll be fine. Chances are, you won't do much abuse, since the speeds will be relatively slow.

I haven't decided if I'll drive my Touring or if I'll pull the 328 out of hibernation and put snow tires on it for Sunday... :devillook

yes the rotary hoists work well, we use Nuesbaum hoists here at the shop. As far as lowered cars goes you usually have the drive the car up on two by fours to get the clearance to lift it. After that you are good to go. Anyone that has been to our shop has seen that done many times.

Awesome! I was a bit worried but the car really did well. My instructor was great as well. Very patient and easy to understand. Temps were not ideal but driving conditions are seldom perfect, plus having the sun out and no wind was a big help. Still funny to see the -17F on the temp display in the morning.

things are going well- i'm working on tuning (there is still no simple asnwer there) at this point. It runs albeit somewhat poorly. I wont' be driving it other than for testing until april though- so i have plenty of time. I hope to be at "stage II" by then and have the boost upped a bit.

I got a bit held up with it because i had to replace the turbo on the wrx and ended up doing that, new boost control system, new intercooler etc. etc.-- but i was happy that it made more power "under the curve" and improved driveability as well. It's a fun winter beater!

I've also been busy working on building a friend custom widebody (2" or so) front and rear fenders for his B5 A4.

I'll come back to the Mercedes in a couple weeks here and try to solve my tuning/fueling issues then, such that i can start to worry about going up to more boost.

Did your car sell locally? I can't believe how cheap C43s trade for! I have been tempted to try to force friends to pick one up a few times when i've seen them super cheap. There is no replacement for displacement...

I'm selling those as i got some 2-piece newer style (thinner spoke) amg's and some carlsson 3 pieces in my garage as well that i'm choosing between- but i still think that color scheme is ideal. If you must maybe consider gloss black center with graphite outer?

I drove up to Duluth today to meet a guy from the Upper Peninsula who bought the wheels in my sig (18" Moda R6's). But I got tagged doing 84 in a 70:( and it's not like I was even trying to speed, the 05' Grand Cherokee just always feels like it's going slow (in contrast to the E36). I was just on a long stretch of road (35 North) and by myself so I wasn't watching the speedometer:( So I get to pay Anoka County $132 now:buttrock But everybody gets a ticket sooner or later I guess...

Go in to the court administrator and or prosecutor's office and ask them if you can either A: pay any court/filing fees to keep the ticket off your record, B: plead to a different charge to keep your record clear, or C: get a continuance for dismisssal (a stay of conviction for 1 year. If you do not get any same or similar citations, the ticket completely disappears). C is probably your best bet.

Your court date is only to plead guilty or innocent. If you plead innocent, you'll have a court date/trial set for a later date. You don't need to go to court at all. You can either pay the citation, or go in and talk to the prosecutor's office BEFORE the court date. Do it on your next day off if possible. Keep in mind that a continuance for dismissal isn't a complete get-out-of-ticket-free method. You'll still have to pay money, and you can't get another moving violation for one year from the date or it'll come back like herpes. It just keeps the violation off your driving record and away from the insurance company.
The other thing to do, as I stated earlier, is to try to plead to a different charge or to ask if you can pay some administrative fees in lieu of a conviction. Each county is different.
(Such is why people are more prone to admitting guilt to and paying equipment violation citations.)

Yeah, the last couple winters have been really bad for snowmobilers and winter sport fanatics.

I'm so itching to take the M3 out on nice sunny dry days...then reality sets in that I'm pretty much not going to get any traction in the first 3 gears. Apparently him and the camaro was getting ready to run and the cops busted them before they actually ran. Both cars got towed and mine had to be on a flat bed since it was kinda low. I just weighed them the ghetto way (the scale is too small to fit the wheel on it) so I just weighed myself and then subtracted it from myself + the rim. So they weight 20.2 lbs a piece. For $388.00 to the door is a pretty good pirce I'd say. I can't think of any downsides yet.

or for the right price a 325/330xi (have to be cheaper than similar equipped g35x) in similar color

Yep, Ganseg is selling me his ContiSport2's. Already put the $50 down to reserve them until I pick them up.

And Silence, I know you don't want to buy from a dealer, but Motorwerks has a 325/330 that you want, and they also have a C240 (don't know if it's 4Matic or not) if you need a last resort. And there's a G35 coupe. Not a G35x but still a G35:dunno

Silence, this is an outside shot, but it has potential. Village Chev in Wayzata has a 2004 330Xi for $18,000 in their Bargain lot. I am sure you can get another $1000 off. It has 70k+ miles, is a manual and needs a new righthand mirror cover. I offered them $16500 two weeks ago - they may be ready to accept that by now, but I bought an M3. It is a 6sp manual, no sunroof and leatherette - all of which I prefer.

thanks guys-

i just put a hold on a a 2004 g35x down in ohio- it's black on tan interior with 42k miles for final sale price of $17500. It appears to be in great condition too and my deposit is refundable.

I drove a couple of those cars at sears actually- the c280 4matic was probably her favorite car if i'd felt more comfortable recommending a benz from the dark area in their reliability.

The appeal of the 3 series cars in general doesn't seem to transfer as well into the xi models. Before we drove the first 330xi i was really talking it up and i think she was disappointed in the performance vs. the other cars (after i'd talked up it's handling and feel). also, for her the interior is very important and it just isn't as nice.

we're leaving in the middle of the day on thursday and should have the car right away friday morning- i will definitely let everyone know how that goes sometime later in hte weekend (we will be stopping in Chicago on the return trip for sure). if things fall through with that car there are also 3 or 4 possible cars for her to pick up in the Chicago area on the way back- one of two in the colors that she wants with under 20k miles for $20,000! which is as good of a deal as the one we're getting for sure.

as far as the snow goes- yeah, it's getting really old right now... Her and i are sharing the Cutlass working opposite shifts. I've been having to get up at 6:30 and drive her to work after going to sleep at 3:00 when i get off work. It's always beyond frustrating to have cars in storage in the winter, and even worse when neither of them is in any way driveable and your other cars break and/or get totalled.

The_Stig

I installed the new nose panel and elipsoids tonight. The nose panel was a bitch to get off due to screws in obscure places, and mounting wasn't a piece of cake either. I was on my back on a cold concrete floor for the better part of an hour and a half trying to get all the screws out. I've never done that much work to my car and I'm glad I did it myself.

The headlights were much more straight forward although still presented a set of challenges I overcame with the help of Max (who any day now is going to introduce himself here as he keeps putting it off) who just did the same headlights a week ago.

All in all, the front end changed quite drastically. I no longer have black grilles, I bought new chrome ones and am keeping them chrome. The headlights look 10x better now and are much more focused.

We also discovered I'm losing oil at a startling rate, so I'm bringing it in to Motorwerks tomorrow (I have the day off) to get looked at.

Phone pics:shifty

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc163/kmoney9999/0215082141.jpg
The blue isn't underglow don't worry. It's Max's LED drop light with the radiator cover off. The light came in really handy. I discovered this after 20 mins of holding my led flashlight in my mouth while I was under the car trying to get at screws. Notice the dent above the left kidney, and how they're black.

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc163/kmoney9999/0216080157.jpg
All fixed with the new grilles, new nose panel and Depos installed. Looks much better this time around IMO.

That's Max in the first pic and he's on the left in the second. His Arctic M3 is the one parked right next to mine. Notice the painted mouldings:naughty

Looks good Kmoney. I just had a long day myself. I went dirtbiking on some lake...Studded tires and an ice track makes for a fun day. I've only been bikin once before so it was a good time.

Then, I got my T.P. in the mail Friday so I installed that tonight. What a frickin' Sound!! Perfection.

Kyle -- I've been keeping my eye on her but haven't had much time to trace it, it's a very very slow leak though... takes about a week for a noticeable spot to form and even then it's pretty thin. Seems to be running good when I warm her up in the garage, we'll see this Spring I suppose.

I need some advice from the locals on this...I have an opportunity to purchase a black on black 89 325i. The car has 115k on the clock, but may have been rolled back about 20k (car fax pointed this out). The car has some maintenance, but it does not have a record of the timing belt being changed. The body has NO rust, which is a huge plus. I think the rear bumper was replaced at one time, but the paint is pretty nice all the way around the car. It may have been sprayed at some point??? The interior is clean, no rips in the seats, windows work and the carpets are clean. The owner says it leaks a bit of oil (oil pan gasket) and one of the front strut may leak a bit. I really like the car, but it will need a timing belt right about now.

What would you suggest I offer? I was thinking 2k.....thoughts?

I was the first one to look at this car. The mileage doesn't match up; I would say it is 50K off at least (even though carfax says 20k). The paint was very shoddy, the rear bumper didn't match, tires weren't that great, didn't have sports package, needed shifter bushings, and had quite a good sized oil leak.

That being said, it drove pretty well.

I still would have bought it if the body wasn't so nasty. I did spot some surface rust when I looked closely.

2k might be right in the current market for the condition. I don't know whether the seller will take it though.

Boosted, what points on the car do you use to strap down a BMW? I have heard you want to do unsprung locations, but with all the bushings for isolation, that a shock can pull out of its lower mounting point, brake lines get in the way, that rear A-arm (I forget what it is called) is too weak. I was going to trailer my car to Road America last summer, and friends started freaking me out.

I know it can be done; I just haven't talked to someone who has done it often... How far are you bringing it? Thanks.

Unsprung locations are preferred. The best way to strap down a car is through the wheels. When I used to transport Maseratis and Ferraris, I would always use the wheels as strapping points. If there's room, you can also do the lower control arm if you need to. Just be sure to keep away from the suspension components and the half shafts.

That being said, you can chain down a car from the frame. Most tow truck drivers and commercial auto transporters chain cars down by the frame since it's the strongest and most rigid point on the cars. It won't hurt anything it you strap the car down by the frame. Just be sure you don't do it and leave it there for a few weeks.

Dinan S3
02-23-2008, 11:41 PM
buy some general frame hooks from a truck top and hook it in the frame...theres an oval hole behind each wheel. that way you can cinch down the suspension

Reedo
02-24-2008, 02:58 AM
General rule of thumb is that if you are going to transport in an open trailer, it's best to strap/chain down the frame. This prevents the body of the car from bouncing and swaying in transport.

My friend with the gutted M3 coupe (S50B32 swap) put his rear seat my other friend's 93' 325i sedan. They are the same. He only did one part. It was either the seat back, or the seat itself. But not both. Although I'm pretty sure both parts fit.

Wow it's funny all the talk of towing, I actually searched for the best way to strap down the Bimmer before we went to pick it up, the T-hooks at each corner were the most recommended, but if you don't have them handy you find other ways ahah. I also heard it's bad to stap over the control arms. We didn't have a long way to go so it wasn't an issue, but we used the X-brace up front and the wheels in the back on the trailer. :) All went smooth and the M is in my garage now.

Women are the major culprits for dirty cars. I can't count how many cars I've seen that were just pigsties, and at least 95% of them were owned by women.
While at Maserati, we had a woman who owned at 2005 Quattroporte with polished HRE 540R wheels who kept the car just filthy. The interior was a bitch to clean and there were mystery stains all over the carpets and on the seats and doors. To top it off, the wheels, which were about $1700 a pop if I'm not mistaken, were severely pitted with salt. She drove it in the winter, put it in the garage without cleaning it, and left for Florida for 3 months. We had to drill polish the wheels, costing around 8 hours of labor, and the wheels still looked like ass if you got closer than 3 feet.

One time, one of our best customers (and one of the richest Minnesotans) drove in his teenage daughter's Mazda 3 for quick wash and vacuum. As a side note, he usually drives in with his Quattroporte, Ford GT, 575M or Range Rover, all of which are meticulously spotless. I couldn't figure out what he was doing with a filthy red Mazda 3 at first. He was a big Maserati and Ferrari customer, so it was complimentary of course.
I had to run the car through the slap-n-scratch washer twice, then hit the interior windows with window cleaner twice, and then began to vacuum the interior. At some point, I realized that I wasn't getting anywhere and that the interior mats needed to be pressure washed, shampooed, scrubbed, steamed, and then dried just to get them decent. The interior carpet was caked with crud and sticky shit. I stopped, got up, went onto the sales floor and brought him back to the car. I told him that I wasn't able to do any more without charging him for an interior and exterior detail, and that at best estimate, he was looking at 8 hours of interior detailing and we'd have to charge him for a full extensive detail. He looked at it, said it looked fine and that the only reason he brought it in was because he knew his daughter would never clean it herself and he couldn't stand to look at it anymore in the main garage (as opposed to the 8,000 sq.ft. garage w/ guest house he has on the other side of the drive where he keeps a lot of his cars :buttrock).
He thanked me for the work and said that if the car was going to be cleaned any more, it was going to be done by his daughter because she was a slob and she doesn't appreciate cars. He was my favorite customer. :D

Add to that the fact that my wife's Honda looks she was hosting a kennel club inside, and it miffs me.

Sorry. ///end rant.

well im half way through with my M50 intake install.......and i'll tell you one thing...KO Preformance sucks
i have receive two hoses that wont fit in what they say it will, and they sent me this plastic piece that goes into the manifold on the bottom coming from the oil/air seaperator....and you guessed it.....its not even close to fitting (thank god i had the old one from the manifold)....i dont know if they arent sourcing OEM parts or what but the fittment was way off....and the instructions suck....if i didnt somewhat know what im doing i could see where they would be very hard to follow.

that fact that im FI is probably making it harder than it has to be but it'll be worth it......while i had the fuel rail off i decided to pull my dinan injectors....theve got about 40000 miles on them so i sonic cleaned and flowed them in our shop and put all new o-rings and pintel baskets on them, i was able to get much better flows out of them after all this......plus while i was taking out the intake tubes i found a pretty substantial boost leak (one of the drawbacks of not having a boost guage), so i fixed that up too.

i will be dynoing my car soon the check gains....between the m50 the injectors and the boost leak im hoping to pick up a good chunk of power, but we'll see .....laat time i dynoed it was 92 degrees out and i put down a measly 291whp (hopefully due to my boost leak)

Did you get the parts from Eric at M50Manifold.com? Or did you source parts individually? I'm guessing you did the second as you mentioned this "KO Performance". I'm very interested to hear how this turns out because I'm doing the same thing eventually.

I would suggest that you buy a single family home. A townhome is a large risk in this market. You might be able to get away with it if you purhcase a used townhome that has low assc. fees and hold it for 5 years or so, but in general the townhome market is oversaturated and I feel that it will be for a while longer.

I am purchasing a single family home in Highland Park, and I know I am paying a premium for the location because the prices in that area have not come down as much as other areas. I feel that it is a good place to buy because it is always a stable neighborhood. Many homes are selling in less than 60 days, which in this market is pretty quick.

I love my M3, but owning a home is much more important. If you are 22 and have an opportunity to purchase a home and start building a good life you should do it.

What generation M3 are you talking about? You can buy a nice E36 for $10-15k. E46 M3s are in the high 20s or 30s. I wouldn't go that far in debt for a car if I were you.

Well, I owned an E36 M3 for a long time and the fact of no warranty and the car being older made it very worrisome - for once I'd love to just have a newer car and I am thoroughly obsessed with the E46 M. I'd be OK buying anything around $30k, but when I start considering a mortgage.. I start to debate on the entire thing.

Single Family homes are much more scarce in my area, and seem to be on an entirely new bracket of required income. Can you recommend a way to search for decent homes? I've searched a few internet sites but I saw a lot of repetition and scamming going on. It's a new area to me. Appreciate the help, guys.

Agreed.
Townhomes are a bad investment. If you want a place just to live and a townhome fits and you're fine with it, by all means buy on. Just don't buy one as an investment. The market IS so oversaturated with townhomes that cities are now starting to enact emergency legislation halting the production of townhomes. Shakopee is a perfect example: they are no longer granting building permits for townhomes because they have an abundance of unsold and uninhabitated townhomes sitting around. There just aren't enough buyers.
My wife's parents, a couple coworkers, a friend of mine and his wife, and a few other people I know live in townhomes and all have their townhomes for sale. None of them have sold and they've been on the market for a long time.

You won't get a great deal either, because the developers need to recoup their costs. The only people that are selling the townhomes they have are those that live in specific areas, and that own end units. Other than that, you won't see much in the way of good equity.

I would recommend that if you want to have a residence that will give you a good return in the future, move to an outer-ring suburb (i.e. Waconia, Medina, Corcoran, Andover, Ham Lake, Mahtomedi, Rosemount, etc.) and buy a newer house and maintain it for a number of years. Otherwise, buy a decent house closer in that's in a good neighborhood and put some sweat equity into it.

As a side-note, it's a good idea to find out what kind of neighborhood you'll be moving into prior to buying a property. Go talk to the neighbors and get a feel for the area. The best thing to do is go to the local Police Department and ask them about the area and what you can expect. Police know the neighborhoods better than anyone, and they won't lie about the neighborhoods like the residence will (residents can be naive or in denial).

That's just my $0.02 though. :)

edinarealty.com is probably the best search engine for a local home website. I get frustrated when I try using Coldwell Banker's.

Townhomes are not necessarily a bad investment - just like anything else, you need to pick the right one. We sold ours less than a year ago (on the market 6 days and sold for list.) We didn't make a lot of money on it, but it was better than p*ssing money away on rent. Obviously buying a house is a better "investment" but it all comes down to your personal economics. Having said that - you could probably get a foreclosed house for a steal - just do your due diligence - don't get stuck with someone else's deferred maintenance (ie, a bargain can turn into a money pit very quickly....)

Reedo makes some good points - there are areas that are oversaturated - Shakopee is a great example. It's overbuilt and across the river. That commute (coming north across 169 in the am) is a nightmare and it's turning people away from that area.

My personal pick would be Eden Prairie. There's some new townhomes near where we built our house that are selling for deep discounts - and they're VERY nice inside. And to answer your original question - my opinion is to buy the house or townhouse first, get comfortable with payments and build a little savings, then buy an M3... jmho

Oh - one last thing. If you're buying, make sure you have excellent credit AND a downpayment. Times have changed and so have mortgages. You're best talking with a mortgage broker before you start house shopping - and get pre-approved for the mortgage first.

And don't get an ARM. Fixed-rate mortgage is the only safe option right now.

Well I live in Woodbury right now and it's the perfect area for me, I have a lot of committments here already such as family so I don't intend to move away. Woodbury is considered one of those outer suburbs which a great community so I am content here.

I also just heard from a fellow coworker that I'd need 5% down. That's an extreme amount for me. I paid off pretty much all of my debt, but I still don't have anywhere near enough, the more I think about it. I've only got about $10k sitting in savings since Ive paid off my debts. Maybe I should just give it some more time before I even try to go get preapproved. :(

5% is probably a low estimate. To avoid PMI (mortgage ins.) you typically need 20%. In this market, it might be worth what it takes to get into a house since you will probably see a real good return if you can hold onto it for a few years. Woodbury is what I call inner ring since I am just south of prior lake out in the country. It is beatiful and i like having county roads to myself with the BMW! Not to mention dirtbiking and snowmobiling from the front door. Getting across the river can be a pain but there are some nice and newer houses in the shakopee priolake lakeville area and crime is pretty low. Eden prairie is nice and well located but seems overpriced still.

Also, don't forget to budget for taxes ~$4k/year and property insurance ~$2k/year and some more for maintenance :( The good news is all the mortgage interest u pay is tax deductible and you are building equity.

All good suggestions Rob. I am closing on a house in Eden Prairie on the 14th and I think it's a great area to buy right now. Using 'comps' from the neighborhood showing what houses in the neighborhood have sold for over the last 6-12 months is another good indicator of how the asking price stacks up. definitely talk to a mortgage broker, and find a realtor you like and drill them for every bit of information you can find. I personally used minnesotas-real-estate.com in conjunction with ziprealty and themlsonline.

Don't kid yourself dude, buy the house first you know it's what you should do! :)

oh and p.s. pre-approvals are only good for 3 months so if you possibly have some time ahead of you before you'll be putting an offer down you might want to wait and pay down revolving debt like I did to boost your credit score.

Does anyone plan on going to the twin cities auto show?

http://www.twincitiesautoshow.com/

Any ideas on what new BMW's will be there?
Or any other interesting cars to make it a worthwhile trip?

I'm hoping that BMW will have the 1 series and the M3 there, but there's no guarantee. I'll have to go and find out.

Whoever goes to the show first has to come back here and report on it.

Yeah, not kidding. Last year was a HUGE let down.
At least for the 2006 show Maserati was there and busted out the MC12 race car.

I'm sure we will get the 1 and M3 because they are coming out in spring/summer, respectively. The X6 is what I'm on the fence about. They might have it, but I really don't know.

The shows have gotten worse for me over the years. They had the fake Sixteen in 2005 or 2006, and last year the coolest was the Challenger. This year I'm hoping we at least get the Camaro.

They look great! I wish I had RSGT-esque wheels:(

On another note...The M3 will HAVE to be at the Auto Show because, uh, Motorwerks just so happens to be getting an E92 M3 in THIS WEEK for the showroom. I'm thinking Friday, so come on in on Saturday and oggle it.

The 1 will also be at the show (I think we're getting them within the month). I'm not certain about the X6, but I'm thinking they'll have 1 that travels around with the show.

Thanks a lot guys!

Prep took a couple of long ass days. The painting wasn't that bad. It probably would have been easier to buy spray cans but the spray gun worked well. Yep, I got clear coat with the Nogaro paint.

Since we're on the E92 M3 topic, this is the look I was going for:

I'll get pics when I first see it, regardless of it's state (pre-PDI, post-PDI, pre-detail or post detail on the show floor).

And the Friday/Saturday arrival is heard second and thrid hand, but the people I heard it from are reliable. So if it's not here by the weekend, don't be hatin:stickoutt
