View Full Version : About to pull trigger on Umnitza, need advice...
manm3 11-16-2007, 09:31 AM I am about pull trigger on purchase of Umnitza package to convert from my stock headlights (basic) to Bi-Xenon assembly from Umnitza.
It is the higher end version $675 for the set.
I am looking for comments, gotchas, watchouts from the forum members.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Mirko 11-16-2007, 12:15 PM I bought my lights from them. Make sure you are 100% clear on the item you want and they understand. Service is good and they work with you to fix any mix ups. I've bought from them a few times and I havent had problems except for the first mix up, which they fixed.
So I would recommend them.
Icabob 11-16-2007, 03:35 PM I'm going to make a few buys from them as well.
umnitza 11-16-2007, 08:08 PM to avoid mixups - I recommend 2 things:
1) Be clear in the comments if there are any custom issues you'd like addressed when you check out - we're more than amicable as what we do is custom lighting
2) Call us.
We're very happy to oblige most all requests, save flying out personally an installing <-- though this offer is always accepted provide air fair and accommodations are taken care of by the recipient to HI, USVI, and other Caribbean destinations:D
OxfordM3 11-29-2007, 10:46 PM Did you go through with the purchase? If so, would you mind posting what you thought? Thanks.
umnitza 12-07-2007, 08:32 PM If it helps, here's what it does look like when finished:

bemve 12-07-2007, 08:48 PM You can't go wrong if you buy from Umnitza. They will take care of you.
I can vouch for Matt @ Umnitza. :)
manm3 12-07-2007, 11:25 PM Sorry guys...a little delayed in posting the update
I did go with Umnitza... the top of the line package with the lifetime warranty just to be safe...one thing is for sure MATT is just awesome! he has responded to emails and my calls for the install and everything to work as smoothly as possible.
Matt please do not take it otherwise but I got to share my experience with all honesty.
I had some hickups...
First of all, let me explain my personality...I am very very picky...may be over the edge obsessive compulsive...I hate putting anything on a car that looks after market. i.e. seems to look like a work around.
The product has rough edges...
1. The Ballast and error correction modules are not very stock looking - to me this can be corrected by the product maker very easily but they have not chosen to be. Not sure why. They have be to stuck by double sided tapes and on top of each other...ugh...ugly!
2. The wiring for install of angel eyes is not too tough but the vendors could do a better job of sharing the instructions. Matt was very helpful to send me the links to help with it.
3. "Flickering" - I get intermittent flickering of the lights...still working through with Matt. Not sure why but I get flickering the first time I start the car in the morning and it is there for first 10-15 seconds after startup. I am trying to get a video out to Matt...hopefully it will work out.
Overall the results are GREAT BUT I would love to have and pay more for a product that looks more STOCK under the hood.
Hope this helps...strangely...this is the kind of input I was looking for when I posted my question...this post will work better for others.
Bottomline...MATT has been ULTRA helpful and I feel a lot better buying from them instead of any other haughty (arrogant) dealers.
umnitza 12-08-2007, 11:56 AM Excellent:) Good points all.
Let me address a few of them for the buyers in reverse order:
1) Flickering - definitely normal (replied to you this morning about it), it's a digital start-up characteristic that I've found on E46s and some E39s.
2) Wiring for the angel eyes - you're right, we do have a variety of install guides that have to be found on the Install resources page, but we'll get a better write up done in the next week or so, the pictures are finally completed for it.
3) The error canceling modules are very aftermarket - I don't think any OEM makes them for the car manufacturers for 2 reasons - a) if the car has xenons, it's programmed for them and b) if the car doesn't have xenons, you have to go pay upwards of $150 to get it reprogrammed. I sent you those error cancelers for free so that I could see how they worked on the E46 (knowing they have been working on the other models already).
And finally, I know Man (buyer here) is compulsive and I want him to be happiest with his product. I will make sure you guys do know that the install "clutter" he mentions is indeed up to the buyer/installer in many cases - how clean he wants to make it look. Though with the sending of the cancelers post completed install was my fault (didn't get them in time) and that probably contributed to the additional clutter.
Now Manm3 - post up some pics of the results - you take good ones! :)
manm3 12-08-2007, 01:47 PM pics coming soon!
OxfordM3 12-10-2007, 09:34 PM pics coming soon!
I appreciate the update, thanks for taking the time to post. The only thing that would concern me would be the flickering. It only occurs during start up and never after right? Also about the error check modules......I was under the impression that you could have a dealer take care of those for you for a nominal fee. According to my dealer the lights just have to have a program change from halogen to xenon. I was quoted $85 to do this.
umnitza 12-10-2007, 09:35 PM Usually a dealer will charge 50-75-100 for the reflash and that generally cures it.
We also have some error cancelling ballasts we "try" on occassions like this but yes, flicker at startup is only the case - not during normal operation.
OxfordM3 12-10-2007, 10:16 PM Thanks for the info Matt, shall be calling soon. Any x-mas/new year's specials going on? :)

Fiziks 12-11-2007, 02:12 AM my e39's AE flicker on startup. looks kinda cool actually.
umnitza 12-11-2007, 02:40 AM Different flicker.
Yours are "testing signals" from the LCM for your E39, nothing to do with the flicker HID startup from E46s.
LeftcoastM3 12-11-2007, 12:46 PM Good thread. I've been looking at the same kit for my M3. Should be ordering shortly after christmas along with some LED tails ;)
manm3 12-11-2007, 11:07 PM Guys, sorry about not posting the pics...a busy time just before the xmas. I will have the pics up on the weekend.
I am a little "depressed" about the error I keep getting on my dashboard. I am actually going to my dealer next week to see if they can do me a "favor" to re-program to avoid the error.
To answer about the flicker --- I have not noticed it after the startup. It happens for about 15 secs after I switch them on and it keeps going down as the time passes during the 15 seconds. So it is intense for first 2 secs and then it is less and less. (damn...too many words but wanted explain it clearly)
Matt, I will wait till sat to give you the stats on the error and we will go from there. Thanks
