As many of you are aware, some members have indicated they would like to change the 6 series thread description, specifically the description applied to the E24, from the current, The original touring coupe was introduced in the 70s for those traveling, wealthy executives, to something which better reflects the E24's heritage and the enthusiasm we all share for it.

A couple of suggestions have been put forward, which are indicated below. Please vote for your preferred choice of description.

Note that the descriptions themselves cover three categories:

sub-forum heading
E24 (1976 - 1989);

sub-forum heading
E63/E64 (2004 - current); and

main forum heading
M6 & 6 Series (E24,E63,E64).

The description in the main forum heading is an amalgamation of the two sub-forum descriptions. Space & length are a factor. Looking at the existing 3 series, 5 series and the Mini thread descriptions, maximum length is around 4 lines, approximately 79-91 words. I have amended my previously suggested description to try and accommodate this length.

To date there has been no suggestion or request for change to the E63/E64 description, so the options below on which we are voting reflect the description of the E24 only. The results of the poll will be applied to the E24 sub-forum description, and will also be amalgamated with the E63/E64 description in the main forum heading.

In deciding an appropriate description please bear in mind the heritage & mission why BMW created the E24 6 series, and what it replaced. The description should reflect the legacy of the E24, not just what it is to us today, but its origins and BMW’s intention for the vehicle.

The current 6 series descriptions look like this....

Below are the options on which to vote.

________________________________________________

Option 1

(E24) 1976 - 1989
The 6 Series was introduced in 1976 as the successor to the 3.0CS. Built for speed, comfort and luxury, BMW spared no expense at perfection. For 13 years the car's aesthetically pleasing body remained unchanged with the exception of minute details. Stopping production in 1989, the grand touring legend would be brought back 15 years later to once again stand atop the grand touring ladder.

(E63/E64) 2004 - Current
The new 6 Series target is a little different, but it still gets the job done. The 6 Series offer a ride that is smooth as butter with its luxurious appointments and smooth drive train. But when asked, its hefty engine will remind you that it is more than simply another grand tourer, but a BMW at heart.

Option 2

(E24) 1976 - 1989
In 1976, BMW introduced the grand touring coupe, the E24. With legendary BMW inline 6 cylinder power and a timeless design, the E24 captured the essence of refined speed and comfort.

Option 3

(E24) 1976 - 1989
Following the success of the BMW 3.0CS, the E24 6 Series coupe's 1976 debut displayed ultra modern styling, true driver-oriented instrumentation, and set a new benchmark for luxury sports coupes. Whilst significant improvements in performance and luxury were developed over the years, to the untrained eye the basic shape of the E24 remained unchanged throughout its entire 13-year production run. The E24 6 series is an authoritative, menacing, beautifully aesthetic coupe that is never mistaken for anything else.

Option 4

No change. Keep the thread descriptions as they currently are.

This poll will be open for a little over a month, and will close on Christmas Day. This should see us starting 2008 with a community-selected thread description for the E24 sub-forum.

Take it from here people!

Thanks Ellis for putting this together!

Its been a while since that first post, but glad to see youve got the ball rolling to get this taken care of!

I voted for option 3, which at this point seems like it will be the winner!! Excellent wording for the E24, as well as the E63!

I too voted for option 3. Being an old 3.0cs fan, it fit the ticket. Good job putting all this together.

Thank you fellas,

I appreciate your support for the poll. And I'm very glad you found a connection with the description Bill, as much as its important that the description is relevant and correct to the E24, I'd like the words to mean something to the fans as well.

I PMd gbelton last week (when the thread disappeared) and said that once we get a result I'm in no major hurry to have it implemented, just to look at doing it in due course over the holiday period.

Merry Christmas everyone!
