View Full Version : my outside temp gauge thinks its -40 all the time jokergerm 11-16-2007, 01:21 AM As title says any ideas? jonmcc 11-16-2007, 01:26 AM common issue... your temp sensor is either not fully plugged in, its broken, or its been ripped off of the car. its located under the car in between the passenger side front wheel and the foglight. its mounted in the fender liner, so if youve hit a curb or something lately it may have ripped off. buy a new one from www.oembimmerparts.com (http://www.oembimmerparts.com) or www.ebay.com (http://www.ebay.com), the part is cheap as hell and it just plugs in jonmcc 11-16-2007, 01:28 AM http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-EXTERNAL-AIR-TEMPERATURE-SENSOR-E60-E39-525-540i-M5_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33557QQihZ009QQitemZ 190172067452QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V http://www.oembimmerparts.com/catalog/item/4278428/4206224.htm jokergerm 11-16-2007, 01:29 AM thank you......... e39dream 11-16-2007, 01:51 AM if you need a connector for it let me know. A lot of times the whole thing gets torn off, sensor, connector and all. I have spares. :) jonmcc 11-16-2007, 01:52 AM ^^excellent point thank you......... :) love your rims btw ben1996328i 11-16-2007, 01:58 AM if you need a connector for it let me know. A lot of times the whole thing gets torn off, sensor, connector and all. I have spares. :) for me it got ripped off but i still have the sensor but the wires at the sensor are to short to just splice. ?? cause i think that part is only the sensor that fits to the 90 degree bend ??? (housing?) haven't looked into the problem, its not really that useful. but if you can help me out :) Maybe i can just bypass that whole connector ? ill post pics of the item if you want e39dream 11-16-2007, 02:10 AM I'm not picturing a 90 degree bend on the e39 sensor or connector. It just plugs into the end and clips to the lower wheel liner. Wiring does not matter on this, just connect the two leads to the broken leads on the car. It will take a few moments for the temp to correct itself. useful or not- when the car thinks it's -40 the heated mirrors are working full time on high causing them wear. ben1996328i 11-16-2007, 02:33 AM I'm not picturing a 90 degree bend on the e39 sensor or connector.
