Hey guys, last month I changed both my headlight bulbs, and foglights. Last week, the passenger side foglight burns out, in a few days followed by the passenger side headlight. And then the passenger side brake light. Wtf is going on? :(

P.S. Whats the difference between ASC and DSC?

Coincidence or a high load on a circuit.

What kind of bulbs did you put in? Standard Halogen H7s? I put Silverstars H7s in my fogs and they burned out in less than six months.

ASC and DSC are essentially the same thing: traction control systems that achieve their results slightly differently, hence the different names.

Dynamic Stability control adds a yaw sensor and a steering angle sensor to get more precise data about the driver's inputs (and by extension, the driver's intentions) to better correct for over and understeer. All Season traction Control uses just the wheel speed sensors to determine slippage while turning.

I stumbled upon a post (I think it was a regional forum - Canada, but not sure) and it was about halogen bulbs. Although Silverstars seem to be good bulbs, the consensus was that they are quite crappy. More of those H7 painted and not bulbs were mentioned.
Now, a different breed of bulbs would be these (http://hirheadlights.com/), HIR's, but not sure if they have the H7 socket.
Another alternative (which I ordered from UK, and waiting for the postman to show up) are Philips X-treme Power (Autolamps-online (http://www.autolamps-online.com/index.htm)) which claim a gain of 80% more light. Not sure how good they are, but Philips is a good brand I think.

I feel like I have replaced headlight bulbs too often in my 99 528i -- probably two or three times in 35,000 miles.

My Osram (Euro Sylvania) Silverstars lasted about 4 months! Great light output (no blue tint), crappy lifespan. Recommend trying Philips Vision Plus. These were cheaper and output is as good. 15 months and still going...

the answer could be as simple as how you installed them. If you touched the lap at all with your bare fingers, that will lessen the lifespan of the lamp. Always use gloves and some rubbing alchol when installing the lamp.

Well I've had 2 head lamp bulbs go out and 2 fogs...the latest was my driver side fog and low beam both went out at the same time -_-

the a passangers earlier and a pass fog light the week I got the car

I think BMW has an issue with that even on the new E90 3 series...the halogens are burning up left and right =/
