One night before i left MNE, on the Bimmer the check engine light turned on, i put the OBD II scaner and it said P0740. That means it's TCC.
I erased it and it turned back on. I turned it off again and it didn't come back, after that maybe i drove about 50 miles. The car shift's smooth, power is OK, just lock up sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
I read that if yout change the oil or the transmission filter the problem is solved.
Any advice?

I think this problem will occur again because sometimes when at 85kmh it doesnt lock up.

I had the same problem on my '97 528i with 110Kmi.The check engine would light on randomly.I accidentally noticed that if I spin wheels it would disappear.I took it for the scan the TCC code came up.Did the fluid change and it was good for another 10Kmi and I sold it after. So my guess is the fluid change should fix your problem.

I think I have to do oil change. I'll buy here in MI a filter, gasket and oil.
I think here is a DIY but still I don't know how to measure tranny/oil temperature. I don't know how many quarts I have to put in....
Then, which filter is the best. I found Febi for $40 but I think it's too much.
Any advice?

It cost me 230$ and I consider it to be cheap 'cause now I have to pay 550$ for my 530i.I say go do it with a pro.

I performed my own tranny fluid changes on my 95 525iT while it still had an automatic. Started at 72K miles and the tranny was good to 155K. It finally failed when I took it to a Goodyear service center for tranny fluid change. (My brother in law manages it and he had been bugging me to bring him business.) The idiot mechanic that worked on it used an air wrench to tighten the transmission oil pan bolts and stripped half of them out. By the time I discovered the leak, it was too late. I don't recommend cutting corners on parts and labor cost for this maintenance. It is too critical if someone screws up.
You don't have to measure temperature with great accuracy. I put mine up on 4 jack stands, filled the tranny until fluid ran out of the fill hole and put fill plug in. Then started car, let it idle in park for 5 minutes, then put in drive and let it run on the stands for about 10 minutes. When the tranny oil pan was very warm, I pulled fill plug and let excess fluid drain out. This worked well for 2 changes and 75K miles until Goodyear idiot worked on it.
Now I drive the same 525iT with 5 spd manual swap and I am looking for a 1969 Dodge Dart with slant six and automatic tranny for my wife to drive. Let her brother f%$* that up!
I put Red Line D4 ATF synthetic fluid in my 525iT with excellent results and I used OEM filter and pan gasket from Bavarian Autosport. My car had GM tranny in it. If you contact Red Line directly, they can tell you if D4 ATF is good for your 528 also. You can buy D4 ATF from Summit Racing via mail order.

Thank you guys.
I just found a DIY for 528i and I will do this.
But I don't know, maybe the solenoid is bad, or wires.
