Assuming the car is well-maintained, at what point would the SMG start giving you problems? I know they can be expensive to fix due to their complexity mixed with stealer-only service. At one point would one have to become wary?

I am comming up on 82k miles on my 02 and the SMG seems to be okay (knock on wood). There are plenty of other things going bad though..........
