Save as only gave me some of the basic HTML stuff...no video. Damn, the download, make that constant buffering, is more painful that Berks' vid! ; ) What am I doing wrong?
onasled 11-15-2007, 03:15 PM Yea, can't save as. Same with me with the buffering. Looks like a great vid. Just wish I 'could' save it.
RacerX 11-15-2007, 03:20 PM I closed and reopened the link and this time there was a Real Player download option. But I didn't have 12:50 to wait....that would be 12 hours, 50 mins. I checked a couple other sites to see if my download speed was slow, doesn't appear to be. Perhaps everyone here is doing it at the same time. ; )

Same here. I'm getting video movement about every 15 seconds. At this rate it will take all day. The link Phil put up just gives you an HTML page if you save it.
Jack, Mine loaded much better than this...:D
Hope the drive home went smooth, thanks for the eats.

Yeah, in fact my little attempt at a lame duck joke reminded me that I did get them downloaded...time to watch.
Drive home was not bad at all, got back just a bit after 2AM. Good to see you again...so does the grub make up for the candy? ; )

It does for me, but you have to check with GOBUFFS as he would know more about the candy than I....:D
dmwhite 11-15-2007, 04:07 PM damn phil, that sucks!!!
what exactly happened?
RacerX 11-15-2007, 04:12 PM Man I'd love to see this but the download is killing me. Any chance of just posting a link that is saveable?
onasled 11-15-2007, 04:22 PM I knew when I met Phil at NHIS that he couldn't be trusted.... :nono
.... but his girlfriend is pretty cute.:stickoutt (at least I assuming that's who that was)
philsans5 11-15-2007, 04:36 PM It's a flash video, so you need a flash player to watch it smoothly. I got a DVD coming, so I'll try to make it reel player. Screw it and click the link, Boston chapter can use the traffic! It will stall with that though.
Got to www.macromedia.com
This is when the reaper died, the spline got all messed up from multiple hits and finally got loose. I have a pic that I can't get small enough to post but basically the threaded sleeve got destroyed by the bolt coming out and going back in repeatedly.
tammer 11-15-2007, 04:36 PM Man I'd love to see this but the download is killing me. Any chance of just posting a link that is saveable?
It's a flash movie, so I don't think so.

That is one of a few... new one is a lot cuter!
Nadroj 11-15-2007, 04:40 PM so what happened, it looks like the brakes failed or you took that turn too hot. really confusing because it looks like you just drove right into the wall. sucks tho, i hope you could salvage alot of stuff off the car or that it is fixable. it seems like you were ok after the crash, and i hope you are ok.

csalexan 11-15-2007, 05:59 PM I hope you don't mind me posting a direct link, just give the word and I'll remove it. Here it is, you'll need some sort of flash video player to watch it.

Damn. That sucks. I was watching it and getting pretty excited watching the first couple laps and all then I sorta got settled in. All of the sudden I realize that somewhere in this vid the car gets smacked but good. Just as I realize that I'm looking at the corner thinking "it would suck to head off track there" and whoops, there ya go! That was a helluva hit. While it was happening I kept thinking of Days of Thunders: "Ahhhhaaaaaahhhhh, this is gonna hurt!" WHAM!
Sorry dude, glad you've moved on though. Thanks for sharing, it was a great video even without the crash. ; )
TOOLEAN 11-15-2007, 11:21 PM Glad you are ok, that was a good hit, atleast that track was well maintained with ample tires for absorbing that hit. 110 mph with little run off, could have been ALOT worse!
jdholder 11-16-2007, 02:09 AM May I suggest you not do that with my chassis. Actually may I just suggest you not do that - - - - - again.
Glad you are ok!
CaracasE30 11-16-2007, 03:10 AM Im confused, this happened when again?
Sucks about what happened, it really seemed like you were quite settled in an on a good groove heading through the field. Glad you are ok! Wrecking a car is never fun.
philsans5 11-16-2007, 08:54 AM This was in august with the flat black car. Basically, there is a splined shaft coming out of the firewall that is sort of spring mounted and on the other end is the steering wheel. I had taken a wheel hit at the 1st Mid O race of the season and it had popped my steering wheel loose. We reattached it (the hinged aluminum piece was 2 days old) and she was fine for 8 races.
I got hit at Tremblant during qualifying in the rear wheel/ suspension. The car felt like crap when I started the race. but I figured it was aligned wrong. Some corners felt better than others, by the time I caught Davis (the last car I pass) I was already thinking about calling it a day. I turned in to go up the hill, but the steering wasn't attached anymore.
The splined piece had been knocked sideways and I was too busy concentrating on what could be wrong in the rear. Moral of the story, NASCAR steering column. I have a LOT of mistrust for the BMW design there now, and some of the other things I've noticed now that I've been all over it with a fine tooth comb.
m332is 11-16-2007, 10:17 AM I actually tapped Phil in qualyfing and felt like crap when he hit the wall in the sprint race later in the day. While I still feel bad that I tapped him, I was relieved to hear, when Phil emailed me a few day later, that my hit wasn't the reason he went into the wall (just the source of much abuse and teasing from Phil).
BTW, just so you know the type of guy Phil is, he spent more time trying to get my car fixed for the sprint race than he spent working on his own car.

JClark 11-16-2007, 10:37 AM Scary moment, glad you're ok. Hope that didnt spoil Tremblants general awesomeness for you.

looks like something steering related failed on the right front and the car plowed into the wall...
"my nuts hurt"
110 into a wall will do that to ya :rofl
Stealthauto 11-16-2007, 01:23 PM sucks about your crash but what a beautiful track!
avusm3 11-16-2007, 01:27 PM To follow up on Vince's comments - Phil also spent multiple hours during that event fixing up our car after an off in the same corner he eventually went off in. Without his help and creativity with a ratchet strap and an F250 I wouldn't been able to finish the last two races of the weekend... :D
Phil sets the standard when it comes to the "Spirit of Club Racing."
BTW, just so you know the type of guy Phil is, he spent more time trying to get my car fixed for the sprint race than he spent working on his own car.

Not at all, thanks!
philsans5 11-16-2007, 02:18 PM The crash doesn't ruin tremblant for me, it wasn't the only bad time there for me and I keep going back! I've been there 7 times I think and love it no matter what, it's a great place. Somebody have an email I can shoot the pic of the steering piece over to?

philsans5 11-16-2007, 02:53 PM Tell me about it! The vid is only been up for a few hours and it already has over 1000 hits. Damn, should hane put a dvd for sale and funded next season!

Yeah, I started downloading last night and at 12 am it was 50% completed. Had to shut it down and will try again this eve. I kept checking my clock speed and everything was fine on my end. Oh well. I'll give it the 4+ hours required to see the wreck:D
JClark 11-16-2007, 03:14 PM I let it download overnight and I was all amped up to watch it this morning over breakfast.
sucks about your crash but what a beautiful track!
^^ Word. Tremblant rules, glad you still love it, Phil. Painting the new car flat black?
vinnymac 11-16-2007, 03:27 PM Wow, that was a hard hit. It's good to see all the safety equipment did the job and you were able to walk away from the crash. Thanks for posting the vid.
bennyfizzle 11-16-2007, 03:37 PM where's the pic?
TOOLEAN 11-16-2007, 03:39 PM Phil, how many of you IP folks are using Hans devices? Just curious?

tynashracing 11-16-2007, 07:26 PM too bad u suck at forza phil...
Dan, we should get some online action going with Forza...a club of racers during the off season. I don't know how to set it up, but I bet we could even put some money into a series and race spec e36 m3's!!!
Let's do it!
Ron Man 11-17-2007, 11:11 AM Phil:
That sucks dude!! My heart goes out to you. It was pretty clear to see that you had no steering and the car just went off on it's own. Lesson learned for me. I did replace my steering knuckle with a new one when I built my car 4 years ago, but, now I will make sure all of the bolts are TIGHT before each race!
Ron Man
mpassioned 11-17-2007, 12:18 PM Hey Phil, saw and talked to you last at Watkins after it happened, but I hadn't seen what actually occured until today. Man that was a hellish impact, and I'm really glad that you faired as well as you did, and weren't seriously injured. Sorry again, about your car though.
Hope to see you at Roebling.
Dave Hill
bennyfizzle 11-17-2007, 12:26 PM exactly what part IS that?
Evergreen Dan 11-17-2007, 12:30 PM Wow, Phil, glad all the safety equipment worked and those tires were there. I heard about it in the paddock, but I didn't realize until I watched the video what a big hit it was.
How do you think the HANS worked? It seemed like a bad 1-2 o'clock hit. What was sore?
philsans5 11-17-2007, 08:14 PM exactly what part IS that?
That's what the actual steering wheel is attached to and passes through the firewall. It the connects to an aluminum swivel arm that I am told is also prone to breaking. I was fine cuz Schroth rules! We were testing comfort of their new design and they got lucky and got their first live test of them. I was a little hurting for a week, headaches and a sore back. The HANS belts pulled out a bit but saved my @$$. Schroth has all the equipment from the wreck including the hans, it's getting x ray and all sorts of tests done but everyone (especially me!) was very happy with the results!
CaracasE30 11-17-2007, 09:17 PM Did you report the incident directly to Schroth or did they hear of they incident through word of mouth and asked you for them?

Wow, that was quite a hit. My worst fear realized - a mechanical failure, at a bad spot... I'm having my steering gear checked out this winter on my e36...
Glad to see that you're ok Phil and thank you for sharing so that we all can take steps to prevent a repeat of your misfortune.
steve
philsans5 11-18-2007, 01:00 PM Did you report the incident directly to Schroth or did they hear of they incident through word of mouth and asked you for them?
Schroth pays close attention to me since I started racing under their name. That's why my last car was flat black and the new one will be is for Schroth advertisment. I'm just trying to spread the good word for them since they repeatedly save my @$$.

Yeah, has definitly become part of a few peoples check lists! I get the feeling their would be a lot of full grown men crying if this ever happened to your car!

Don't be angry cuz even in video games you get stuck looking at my rear bumper as I lap you. It's like real life only funnier cuz I get to hear you bitch.

The only difference is the wing!!!!!
You can't get the utterly stupid wing Dan has on his track car.
For your car on Forza..:buttrock
RRT Adam 11-18-2007, 05:43 PM Looking forward to seeing it (13% downloaded so I am on target for under 2 hours!!!!)
Joshh 11-18-2007, 09:07 PM I'm not a real racer but that looked like some very good driving till the steering gave out.
CaracasE30 11-19-2007, 02:57 AM I didnt have any trouble that so many people here are mentioning, though my download was around 3am
Dino Antonov 11-19-2007, 04:48 AM sucks, i liked that car too, good thing you're ok.

Ken, get your xbox live setup! I'm getting on tonite at 8 with a few guys, but the more the merrier! If we start getting enough we can have simultaneous games that can be a tournament! I'll even think about power to weight classing!

I'll try really hard to make it happen. I think I'll need your user name. I'll check with my son to see how I can hookup with you guys.
I know some guys are doing this with a spec miata series and have a blast.

Phil, hate that I missed out tonight. We've got workers coming in the morning and some things had to be done prior to them getting here...so, I did the mature/adult thing and took care of it before having fun!
Anyway, when are you planning to be on again. I'll put it on the calendar. What are you racing? I'll probably need to build a car as I can't remember what I've got right now.
