I have 2003 e46 and have had no problem in my 42k miles. I really like the 2008 328. Any issues with the car or things to look for? I am not looking for a 335 so please limit the discussion to the 328...

Or is the e46 the best car ever and I should hang on to it??

thanks all

Scott

You should get a 335i! Just kidding. I don't think there are any concerns going from an E46 to an E90 328i.

Some of the issues with the 328:
- It uses up gas.
- It wears out tires after tens of thousands of miles.
- It needs engine oil to be replaced at some time.
and worst of all:
- It converts energy into pleasure.

As you can see, I am being cynical, which means go get the car, there is nothing wrong with it. As for any car being the best ever, that is a matter of opinion. If you like it keep it, but if you want something new, get the 328 and don't look back.

I went from a '99 e46 323i to an '07 328i. The only issue I have with the new car is the run flat tires.

I'm on the verge of springing for a 328i myself and am looking forward to it! I've been admiring the 3 series BMW for quite a while and have been steadily saving my nickels and pennies for this moment..It's a big deal for me and I will absolutely have no regrets...BMW 3 series is in a class all it's own. A superb handling car...pure class!

Thanks all for your comments, I was not saying the e46 is the best car ever, just asking if the group feels that it was??

Just put the call out to the dealership looking for the righ color and options... say not to leatherette.

I can give you some advice as I still have my e46 an 04 330i and previously owned an 06 325 and now have an 08 335i coupe. The 328 will feel a lot more luxurious than the more simple e46. As far as driving they are somewhat different and the new car has many upgrades over the e46. Having said that I must say there are things in the e46 that I like a lot and things that I don't like about the new cars. I don't feel as in control and part of the car as I did in the older e46. BUT, in the end there is no question that a 328 is better than your current e46 and you should go for it. Cars change over time and it takes a bit of getting used to, especially when you have driven an e46 and loved everything about it.

Also, I would not put off the leatherette as an option. I had in both of my e46s. True I did get leather for my 335i coupe but because that's a more luxurious car and everybody expects leather in a 335. My previous 00 323i and current 04 330i have leatherette and it's just fine. Also, I had leatherette on my 06 325i and it's much nicer than the e46 leatherette. No complaints either way. All I'm saying is leatherette is not bad at all on the 3 series and some people new to BMW can't even tell the difference.

It is more durable too if that is important to you ans/or if you have kids.

So far no problems with my 15k mile 335i, but you should buy an 08 just in case because of oil pump problems with the 07 issue.

BTW: congrats on posting with large bold type.

I'm almost ready to go ahead and get the 328i also (as soon as I sell my truck).
I do have kids so I considered getting the leatherette instead of leather. The only problem is that I want the Premium package and it only comes with leather. Oh well... :)

Just ordered the car 08 328 prem package, step tranny, Xenon... Just the stuff I was looking for. I drove a sport package and really did not like the wider tires on our grooved rodes on Oregon (studded tires). It is in CA now ready to ship, should be here in a week??? Hopefuly I get a German built car?? I am sure the SA are fine, its just me.

Thanks again all

I thought the new body style was too similar to the old one, but we had the black e46 323i and the black e90 328i parked side by side in our garage for a couple days and it was surprising how different they are.

Although I have a 335 the 328 is very nice...the body styles are the same and it just looks fabulous on the road! You can't lose! There is something about having a Bimmer...it is what it is..pure class and the best driving experience you will ever have! Go get it!
