sold. thanks.

ok. mods if you want, ill move this, or repost this in for sale, but i am trying to tailor this to the FI people. i got to thinking about this, and didnt know if anyone was interested. if not, ill just rebuild this stock and sell the long block to whoever. im not trying to be a vendor, nor am i trying to step on vendors toes. i appreicate them, and use them regularly. but im at a situation here, and thought i could help someone on the board, or someone you know.

im rebuilding a M54 3.0 liter. i got to thinking, what if someone wanted/needed a built M54 (ritoab?)
i dont need a M54, i just had this laying around, and decided to get it back together..... but others might need it. i was originally going to just rebuild a stocker, but thought maybe there might be an interest in a performance motor.

so far:
-performance valve job (5 angle intake, radius cut exhaust) undercut valves, lapped, and head decked. head is ready to be reinstalled.

-block decked and ready for pistons.

engine will be bored and honed to .020. havent done the boring, because i want the pistons in my hand, so clearance can be double checked.
heres the options for this thing:

-rods
OEM BMW stock (included)
or eagle rods
add 600 bucks

-head bolts

OEM BMW bolts (included)
or ARP head studs
add 240 bucks

-main bolts

OEM BMW bolts (included)
or ARP main bolts
add 200 bucks

-JE pistons (included)

stock compression no charge.
or your desired compression (turbo?)
NO CHARGE FOR COMPRESSION CHANGE

-bearings

Gleason OEM manufacturer bearings (included)
or OEM BMW main and rod bearings
add 200 bucks

-headgasket
OEM BMW headgasket (included)
or Cometic headgasket
add 230 bucks

anything else you can think of, involving the long block or internals can be performed also as well. custom head porting, bench flow, etc.etc.

this engine will come with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty ONLY IF IT IS NOT FORCE INDUCTED OR SPRAYED WITH NITROUS

WHY? well, i can control the quality of the engine and its component installation, but i CANT control who uses the engine., or how they use it. if you boost it too much, tune it wrong or spray the wizz out of it, i cant control the limits of the engine from your bad desision/judgement.

so. i was going to sell the engine @ 4200.00 as a stock rebuild. mind you, its getting forged JE pistons regardless of how its built, so add that to your tally.
shipping is available, on your expense. located in houston.

any thoughts?

this is being built by myself, and a machinist who is 30+ years experiance, using CK10 bore machine, and sunnen equipment. his specialty is in race engines, and rarely does stock rebuilds, thus has sparked an interest in my M54.

how much for a complete job to handle 550whp

well, its up to you, how much it will handle. the engine and your pocket book
honestly for reliability, why wouldnt you fully build it for peice of mind?

So this thing is all apart exept the head? What is the current state of assy/diss-assy? How much for it in its current unbuilt status? Any sensors at all included? Any plumbing? I'm kinda looking for an m54, but wanted to do the build myself.

Cheers,
Ricky

the engine was completely torn down, cleaned and checked. the head has already had a valve job, decked and lapped. its ready to be installed back onto the prepped block. currently the block is bare, the crank and rods are cleaned and prepped, oil pan and misc parts are cleaned. we are going to be installing timeserts on the block for the head bolts/studs. the block still needs to be bored and honed, but we're seeing if there is any interest on anyone wanting the pistons in any shape other than stock compression. cam crank and misc sensors may be on the engine when we're done, but its best to replace them. this is a long block, no plumbing is included.

look at it this way. if you do the work yourself assembling it, your on your own. what if you put the engine together wrong? what if you timed it wrong? scratched a bearing? what ifs?

if you let me put it together, you have a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty on it, and its put together by a master BMW tech. (me) my machinist stands behind his work, and i stand behind my assembly.

its your call on how you want to do it. i DO know i am getting antsy to get the pistons coming, so i can put it back together right now. i havent ordered the pistons, cause i dont know if someone wants a different compression, and i havent bored the block yet, cause i want the pistons in my hand so i can double check the measurements.

I'm not that kind of a hack. This is not the forum to qualify myself and besides, I don't feel I need to. In the same token the same could happen to you while building the motor. Although you do offer a warranty, if something was to happen I'd need to ship the engine back to you and you need to ship it back to me in order to honor the warranty, right? That could mean a lot of money and I am sure your warranty would not include that. Thanks anyways.

Cheers,
Ricky

listen, im not calling you a hack. i dont know you from Adam, or your qualifications. i was just stating the benifits of myself putting the engine together. i wouldnt put a warranty on it if i didnt stand behind my product.

the decision is up to you. if you want, i can bore the block and prep it to the piston size, leave the pistons in the box, and ship everything so you can assemble it, it makes no difference to me.

Even so, after sensing a little tension, you still ahev not answered my original question. How much do you need for it as is. I have my own pistons to work with.

Ricky

no tension what-so-ever Ricky. its hard to read and understand emotions through the internet sometimes.

so, you want everything as it sits, head assembled, block w/ crank sitting in it, and all other internals in a box, including the vanos and chains w/ sheetmetal and WITHOUT the JE pistons?

in order to make sure the block bore is correct, i would need a measurement of your piston size. also, would you be fitting your own rings to the cylinders?

obviously the engine assembly bolts would come (oil pan, valve cover gasket, etc.etc.)
but would you want the torque to yeild bolts?

just trying to get an idea of what you want. if you would like, we can continue in this thread, or go to PM's.
also im going to need a zip code to figgure out shipping.

thanks!
