Any of you guys have/had trouble with the rubber grommet that goes through the cruise and throttle cable bracket on the engine? What were you able to do about it?

After browsing the local parts yard, I found that it isn't a threaded nut on the back side of the bracket, it's actually a broken half of what was a rubber grommet. There's a threaded, barbed insert running through it so the cable tension can be adjusted. The cars in the parts yard all had brittle grommets. Mine are both completely broken in half (allowing the adjusters to hang on the bracket and hold the throttle open - HOLY SH!T.

I went to the dealer today, and they don't show that particular part. Is is part of a new cable (or both)? Anyone sell just the grommets?

TIA.

Someone on bimmer.info just did a writeup on replacing these cables in a 530. And I'm pretty sure he said that the grommet is part of the new cable.

There are also throttle safety clips available, to prevent the assembly from walking.

If it's BMWs "paper clip" TSB you mean, I have that. That clip only holds the sheath to the adjuster, but not to the bracket. I'll check bimmer.info, but I was afraid that the grommet is part and parcel of the new cable. In the meantime, I'll rig something up to hold the adjuster ass'y to the bracket.

Thanks.
