I had it done while I was in getting my Inspection I done so my car was tied up for the entire day.

If you are just going in to get an update on the programming recall then it will not take very long at all. Pretty sure they told me that part was only plug and play. It took a little longer for me because they had to re-download some Dinan software back on to my computer.

No I do not know what years the rod bearing recall was for. I am sure it is on the forum if you search. I have an inspection II in 4500 miles so I will ask them about it then. When are you getting your Programming updated?

I dropped off the car last night at the stealer and I drove home a piece of crap luxury Ford Escape (X3 3.0) :rolleyes --no fense to those that own one, but c'mon.... anyways, I got a call when I got home that they can sell me an extended warranty (exp. 08/2009-100K) that would cover my inspections I / II. He told me that some finance lady would call me today-- how much should I expect to pay? is it worth it?

I told him to check out my rod bearing also since I there was a recall for prior years...

The programming should be done by tonight. I'm just waiting for a phone call..

ummm...I am not sure how much it will cost. That is odd. The stealership I take my car to told me that they no longer have an extended warranty available for my car. He made it sound like they stopped making it available cause the car was getting too expensive for them. I will have to call them again. I know I get quoted at about $3,500 when I was around 26,000 miles. My car too is a 2003. I will have to call them and get to the bottom of this mess.

For your ext. warranty you should figure up how many inspections you think you will have by the time that warranty should run up and see if the costs of the inspections will be more than that of the warranty price. I wanted one and would have gotten one but they told me it was no longer available.

Good luck with the stealership.

dont go to the dealer for either service. Find a good indy shop in your area..Ive got an 2003.5 myself and ready for inspection II in just about 2500 miles..local and well rec. shop in my area for this inspection is only $1200.00 and that includes the vlave job...inspection I is only $800.00 through them as well.

I got a call late last night from the stealer that the recall has been completed and that there wasn't enough play on my wheel bearing for a repair to be done. The thief told me that I have to do more damage to it in order to get it fixed because the cannot determine any wear.
Are they serious? so basically they are tell me that they don't want to prevent any damage by replacing the bearing, so they would rather me damage it... this is crap!

anyways, I was thinking of leaving the car in there for another day... got to take a trip to LA tomorrow -- with the loaner! ha!

Stealers always do that, mainly because BMWNA (and most manufacturers) have that as their policy. They'd rather prolong the inevitable than fix it preventatively; this way, they can significantly decrease, if not eliminate, the chances that they would need to replace it a second time under warranty...if at all. Thus they decrease their costs.

You can keep the loaner for as long as they're working on your car... it's a loaner. But BMW of Fairfax, for instance, does not give loaner cars out typically unless for warranty repairs AND only then if you bought the car from them. Ridiculous... so if I were to take my M3 in for Inspection 2 and pay $2,100 (the exorbitant amount that they want for Insp. 2), I would likely still get an Enterprise POS... and probably not even that, since I'm under 21. I can't remember if you have to be 18, 21, 23, 25 at that location (it's on-site at the dealer).

I did get my service advisor before to try his best to give me a loaner, but I was only 17 at the time and the service manager wouldn't have any of that--minimum age for loaners is usually 21, sometimes 18 at their/their insurance co.'s discretion, but they have really no reason to go out of their way to get an underaged person a loaner. Easier to just use age as an excuse not to.
