Hi everyone!

I'd like to know if that is what some people call the "launch mode" I am a little confused when I come across a thread and sombody uses this term. If so do you only use the sports mode when driving on the highway? Or is it good to always have it on? Yup a little new to my M3.

Sports mode only improves the throttle sensitivity to accelerator pedal depression nothing else. Therefore you get more throttle for the same amount of pressing on the accelerator pedal.

I use it most of the times I am driving the car. Do not know the pros or cons BUT like the launch feeling without pressing on the accelerator too much.:eyecrazy

Love to hear what others say.

No wonder when I turn it on and I am going about 80mph on the highway it feels like a turbo boost. Then I end up going a little bit faster then what I want to.

from what I understand, launch mode is only in SMGs. Sport mode is different, probably a SMG owner can chime in...

What does "Sport" mode do?
"This is probably the most misunderstood button in an M3. Depressing "Sport" button does not add any horsepower, increase torque or do anything else to boost the car's performance. Since the throttle pedal in an M3 is not physically connected to the throttle bodies via a cable like traditional designs, the amount of fuel the car actually gets is controlled via software and not directly by your foot. The software simply reads the position of the throttle pedal and then translates that into how much to open the actual throttle (actually its a lot more complicated then that but you really don't need the dirty details). The software can be altered to provide more or less fuel per given pedal position. When in Sport mode, the computer simply gives more throttle input per % of pedal input than in standard mode. Other wise, if hypothetically the software give 50% of possible throttle at 50% of the throttle pedal, in Sport mode the same pedal input may give you 70%, etc (these numbers are just examples). Wide open throttle is exactly the same in Sport and Standard modes. The car is not any faster, it just feels that way because it takes less pedal input to pump more fuel into the engine. Also, unlike the M5, M3's Sport mode does not alter steering boost - it only remaps the throttle pedal position sensor."

Launch mode or Launch control is only available on SMG cars.

Select S5 or S6.
Make sure the car is stopped on level ground
Hold the paddle shift or shift knob in the downshift position
Push gas pedal all the way to the ground... the RPMs will climb to 1800rpm but hte car will remain stationary.
When you are ready ... release the paddle shift or shift knob.

I drive in sport mode all the time,as for launch control,I've never used it because I was told my numerous mechanics that have worked,or still work for BMW,that if you use launch mode three times, your warranty is VOID.I have a lot of warranty left so I don't want to mess with it...lol.

Makes no sense... why would they give you a function in the car that viods the warranty?

It doesn't void your entire car warranty ... only the warranty on the clutch because it is a severe amount of stress on the clutch. But then again, your cars launch at 3500rpm as opposed to the US 1800rpm.

US warranties are different than the rest of the world because if you abuse something... the warranty will not cover it. Just like if I was to do redline clutch dumps... the warranty wouldn't cover that either.

o, i can feel a little quickness in the response with the SPORT button on, but it sucks when you are on lower gears... i prefer driving with the sport off and would just use it when i'm on the track....
