525e E28 1987 auto
I ran the car to the stores, everything was normal. Returned to the 10mins later and would not start. Been taken to garages and specialists and nobody can find the fault.
1) has no spark
2) tested sensors, appear ok
3) replaced ECU
4) distributor ok
5) coil checked
Does anybody know how to get the fault codes from the car as nobody seems to have the plug terminal for the old plug type. Only thing I can think of is a broken wire. Advice please :help

the only thing i can think to tell you is check all your fuses and fusible links (DUH) but that's too obvious.... i'd get the car up on a lift and give a VERY thorough underbody inspection just to see if something just took a shit on you while it sat.

Dang. Just that these cars are actually getting rare! Shes only done 65000 miles. Nobody can fix it. And Lucas don't want it either, their waiting like is unbelievable.
I had a similar problem on my 528e. All sensors were good. Mine was intermittent a few times, then dead for good. I traced it into the main and ignition relays, there was no power into one of them, can't recall which. Jumping the relay got it to run. The problem was related to a green (if I remember) box under the left (on USA) dash, there are green/red, and green wires. Think it was in turn related to anti theft code stuff in radio, which was long gone. In any case, check at the relays for function straight away.

try E28planet.com for electrical troubleshooting. It helped me alot. Maybe as simple as the ignition switch.

I just fixed my E28 with this problem.
If the car cranks over fine then its not the ignition switch.
Pull the main relay off its holder (not out of the socket). HOld the main relay in your hand, and have someone turn the key on. You should feel it click.
If thats good, check the OBC computer. I had a blown fuse in it and that fixed my problem.
Good luck, if you need any help just holler back.
