View Full Version : So where's the satellite antenna wiring on an 07 328xi?
ilude99 11-11-2007, 08:30 PM That guy around here that installed an XM receiver in his car inspired me to try it on mine... long story short, where does the wiring from the shark fin antenna come out? I need to hook an extension cable to it so I can run it up to the front seats for my radio receiver but I can't find the damned thing.
mryakan 11-11-2007, 10:09 PM You car should be prewired for XM. So I don't think you need to hook it to the antenna, there must be some kind of connector somewhere to get a hookup, but I don't have a clue.
neapolitan 11-11-2007, 10:33 PM I always wondered to myself if it could be used for an aftermarket GPS hookup. Would be nice...
mryakan 11-11-2007, 10:57 PM Be careful, doing such hookups might void your warranty on related issue and with the number of reported gremlins with the Radio/iPod interface and iDrive related electronics, I'd be wary about doing such things, but then that is just me.
bimmer_boyis 11-11-2007, 11:19 PM There is no traditional wiring for satellite radio. It is connected to the most bus by changing the fiber optics at the most splice behind the back seat around. And yes you will void the warranty if you start hacking into any wiring.

I was under the impression that there was some sort of cable that ran down from the sharkfin that you could hook into instead of slapping a magnetic antenna. Is this a recent change?
bimmer_boyis 11-12-2007, 12:34 AM There is an antenna that plugs into the satellite interface. On you car it should be under the trunk liner. It will be wrapped up in foam along with a most bus connector.

good to know. thanks.

When you say under the trunk liner, where do you mean? There is a plastic removable cap on the left hand side ("CD storage") which, if you open it, reveals what I think is an amplifier. There's a cable in there that has foam wrapped around it; I think that's the CD changer cable though? It's a black square with three small plugs. I can't seem to find anything else back there...
ilude99 11-15-2007, 04:30 PM Never mind, found it. If anyone else is looking, the satellite antenna wire comes down from the sharkfin and should be sitting under the removable liner that encompasses the middle of the trunk floor (where the spare tire would be). Buy an extension cable from myradiostore.com, run it up to the cockpit and you can tap into the sharkfin with your XM receiver.
White94RX 11-16-2007, 01:56 PM Yeah, remove the trunk floor, and on the left, you'll see the bundle of prewires for the SDARS (satellite receiver). The TCU, if equipped, will be to the right of this.
And BMW uses Sirius, not XM. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they are two different Sat radio providers.
jmai22 11-20-2007, 08:26 PM So this wire has no power to it? I wanted to use this wire as a 12v source for something that I am working on. Does anyone know if this wire has a 12v source?
What about the wire next to the battery?
