If I am not mistaken, the current 3 series generation is the 1st to have different platform designation for the various body types. Not sure if the platforms are significantly different to warrant that or if it is a marketing thing. Previously 1 designation applied to sedan/coupe/convertible/wagon variants (e21/e30/e36/e46).
